re the piece on p.330, and subsequent entries, the author explains: “One of the things I have been meaning, for several years, to do, is to write a series of unwritten chapters of famous novels. In a number of novels there comes a point where the author develops an opportunity for the ridiculous that he is above utilizing. He builds up the situation, and then abandons it, and goes and does something sane and different. I am going to write these unwritten chapters. They have no connection, one with the other.
