Dusty Ayres and His Battle Birds
Numbering continued from Battle Birds, an aviation pulp first published in Dec 1932. Title was converted to an SF format for these 12 issues, then discontinued. A separately numbered revival of Battle Birds, in its original format, was published from 1940 to 1944. All the stories in the SF issues were set against the same background of a future invasion of the U.S., though the shorts featured none of the series characters from the lead novels. We have listed Robert Sidney Bowen as author on all the stories, though the shorts rarely carried by-lines. The contents pages were ambiguously laid out, but implied that Bowen wrote everything.
