"The Company president handed me a quote, the exact same one that  opens your web page, and asked me if I thought I could do it. I  hadn't really done mystery work before (Most of my work is  medieval-fantasy), but the Pulp-era has always interested me. I asked  him if they were ok with a pulp-magazine cover approach, and he said that was fine, so I said, 'Then I can do it.'

I wanted to make Fu-Manchu a towering presence, the montage let me  make him bigger than-life. His threat is always there, even when he  is not."
