Obituary for Amelia Reynolds Long

Miss Amelia Long, 74, of 725 S. 25th St., a mystery writer, poet, and museum curator, died Wednesday at her home. She retired in October 1976 after more than 16 years as curator of the William Penn Museum. She continued to volunteer her services to the organisation until her death.
She was the author of 34 mystery novels, about 25 of which were also published in foreign languages. She also wrote about 100 short stories and between 200 and 300 poems, some of which were published in magazines. She was the winner of numerous state and national poetry society awards. She also wrote a number of prize-winning radio scripts which were broadcast nationally.
She was a 1922 graduate of Harrisburg Central High School, and received a B.S. degree in 1931 and an M.A. in 1932 from the University of Pennsylvania. She was an employee of the Stackpole Co. as a college textbook editor from 1951 to 1958. She was a member of the Harrisburg Poetry Workshop of the Pennsylvania Poetry Society.
There are no immediate survivors. Graveside Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Paxtang Cemetery, with the Rev. Harrison Ziegler III, visitation pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, officiating. There will be no viewing. Arrangements are being handled by the funeral home at 23rd and Derry streets.
Outdoor Reference Guide
In the years following her decision to stop writing mystery novels, Long edited a number of text books for The Stackpole Company, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. One of these was a book published in 1959, entitled Outdoor Reference Guide. This was an encyclopaedia of nature, edited and compiled by Long.

"The Dimension Drug" and "Cosmic Fever" available to read on-line

Radio Plays
Amelia Reynolds Long wrote the radio play "Excalibur" which was broadcast by CBS Radio on May 9, 1945 as an episode of the Dr. Christian show. An adaptation of her short story "Scandal in the Fourth Dimension" was also broadcast as an episode of the Dr. Christian show on January 16, 1946. If anyone knows of any other radio scripts by Long I would be interested to hear from them.
