from America's Humor
Chris Marie Meeker
by Ellis Parker Butler
Ladies and gentlemen, permit me to introduce Chris Marie Meeker, creator of the first cover on America's Humor, born in Paris the youngest daughter of the Comte and Comtesse Gabriel de St. Victor Jacquemont, christened Christine Marie de St. Victor Jacquemont, but now a Chicagoan. Folks, know each other.
This sprightly, little art person from France is briskly on her way to fame. Reared in a fashionable convent in that country and what convent in France is not fashionable? -- she finished her education in a convent in England, following that by going on the stage for awhile on her return to France.
Then of course she had to take up art! She began drawing just for the fun of it, but her early success gave her greater ambition and that was why, year before last, she went to Paris and studied at the Academic Julian and later at the Art Institute in Chicago.
In appearance Chris Marie Meeker is typically Parisienne -- Chicago-Parisienne, as one might say. Her hobbies are playing the piano and flirting, but she never flirted with me. This is a statement and not a dare.
Last but not least, there is one thing I do know: Chris Marie Meeker's good sense is basically perfect. She says I am her favorite author.
