This is a revised and abridged edition of the work (not by Ashley, but under his supervision). The abridgement mainly consists of reducing the early British Kings from some 300 pages to 30 pages.

This includes a general index, notes, bibliography, and appendices with reminiscences by Charles D. Hornig and indexes to speculative fiction in Gernsback magazines.
