It is thought that the original run of this title was intended to be 4 issues with "The Brave Boy of the Basilisk" as the fourth title (a registration copy at the British Library has #4 on the wrapper, subsequently altered in coloured ink to #9 of the later series).

The first four titles of the second series were originally listed as issues 4-7 of the earlier series, but eventually appeared un-numbered except in adverts where their numbers had reverted to 1-4. The series is advertised as running to 20 issues, but #19 is missing from the British Library registration run and may not have appeared (as are the newly numbered 1-3). The Deadwood Dick stories each reprinted five numbers from the Aldine Boys' First-Rate Pocket Library.
