John Dinan's The Pulp Western (The Borgo
Press, 1983) listed a number of western titles that have not been located elsewhere
and hence are currently presumed to be phantom:
- Candid Western
- Complete Novel Western
- 15-Story Western
- Fifteen Western Range Romances
- Lone Star Ranger
- Romantic Round-up
- Story Western Magazine
- Top Western (probably a mistake for Top Western Fiction Annual)
- Two Gun Western Action Books
- True Western and Far West (probably a mistake for True Western Stories)
- Western Action Thrillers (probably a confusion with the 1937 comic book of the same name)
- Western Book
- The Western Novel of the Month (actually a monthly series of novels in digest
format)
- Wild Bill Hickock Western
In addition
- A 1950s version of Hopalong Cassidy is
occasionally listed as having been published by Dell Magazines, but this was
actually a standalone novel
- Two-Book Western Magazine is listed
in The Adventure House to the Pulps as the title of the first (Fall
1933) issue of Big-Book Western Magazine, but subsequent research
has shown that that issue had the same title as all the others and no magazine
under the title of Two-Book Western Magazine has yet been located.
- Western Crime Stories was mentioned
in Peter Haining's American Pulp Magazines, but is a novel by Morton
T. Cayne.
