A weekly magazine published in San Francisco, which began when the Southern Pacific railroad decided to finance a journal which would attract visitors to its Del Monte Hotel.

Little magazine, mostly poetry, fiction, artwork and occasional essays. Stories by Arthur Machen, Vincent Starrett, William Saphier, Haniel Long, Ben Hecht. Last issue was apparently mailed to subscribers from Denmark where the publisher had fled due to debts. Starrett never saw that final issue.

The Waverley Magazine

Dow discovered budding amateur authors would pay him to publish their stories. Dow opened this opportunity to subscribers only and apparently never paid a cent for anything he published. He pirated many UK serials such as "Bleak House".
