$16.00 here: http://www.haffnerpress.com/jw35.htmlRemember, all proceeds go to the Williamson Lectureship Fund. 2. We are planning to pick up finished copies of AT THE HUMAN LIMIT, THE COLLECTED STORIES OF JACK WILLIAMSON, VOLUME EIGHT on March 25!!! This is two weeks earlier than planned! This one is a whopping 616 pages (the biggest so far) and has 34 stories from 1962 to 2006 and over 150 pages of non-fiction including biographies, book reviews, and critical commentary. Connie Willis wrote the foreword and Jack Williamson's afterword reflects on his life and the stories represented in the 44-year period covered herein. Ordering details here: http://www.haffnerpress.com/jw8.html or get it with the Super-Early Bird Special on the left-hand column at http://www.haffnerpress.com. 3. The 75-copy limited edition of AT THE HUMAN LIMIT, THE COLLECTED STORIES OF JACK WILLIAMSON, VOLUME EIGHT will not only have a Jack Williamson autograph pasted on the limitation page (sadly, Jack passed away without having signed pages for this 8th volume), but will also be signed by the dustjacket artist, Ralph McQuarrie!! In case you're unaware, Mr. McQuarrie was the original conceptual artist hired by George Lucas to design the original STAR WARS films. We're holding the price at $150.00 and copies can be ordered at the bottom of the page at this link: http://haffnerpress.com/autographed.htm. 4. Nearly 1500 pages of world-wrecking goodness for all you astrogators! We will have copies for sale at Windy City Pulp & Paper Convention (April 15-17), and we will pack/ship as many copies as possible before leaving for Chicago. Until then, there's still time to take advantage of the Early Bird Special at http://haffnerpress.com for these two titles and TERROR IN THE HOUSE: THE EARLY KUTTNER, VOLUME ONE and SHANNACH - THE LAST: FAREWELL TO MARS by Leigh Brackett with the exclusive bonus chapbook, AN INSIDE LOOK. 5. DETOUR TO OTHERNESS by Henry Kuttner & C.L. Moore recently got some love from author James Sallis in the March/April issue of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. Of course, you should buy a copy of this issue, but you can read Mr. Sallis' personal review of DETOUR TO OTHERNESS here: http://www.sfsite.com/fsf/2011/js1103.htm Okay, loyal readers, that's all for now. Moon of Skulls (The Weird Works of Robert E. Howard)
[Kindle Edition] - Now available! MOON OF SKULLS collects Robert E. Howard's fiction and poetry published in Weird Tales Magazine from October 1929 to November 1930, plus one from Oriental Stories. These works represent literary stepping-stones to Howard's infamous Cthulhu mythos stories and his most famous character of all -- Conan the Cimmerian -- and ably demonstrate that each of Howard's stories improved and added to his formidable skills as a master of fantasy and adventure. Continuing the collection of Howard's fiction and poetry in order of publication, Volume Two of The Weird Works of Robert E. Howard picks up where Volume One left off -- at one of the most startling and controversial Howard stories of all: Skull-Face, a potent combination of gothic themes and oriental mystique! Included in this volume are: "The Gothic Orient," by Mark Finn (introduction), "Skull-Face," "Dead Man’s Hate," "The Fearsome Touch of Death," "A Song out of Midian," "Shadows on the Road," "The Moon of Skulls," "The Hills of the Dead," "Black Chant Imperial," and "The Voice of El-Lil." Robert
E. Howard Days - June 10 & 11, 2011! As the snows blow cold here in NW Indiana (and most parts of the country, actually) it’s the very best time to turn our thoughts to the warmer upcoming months. Specifically, Robert E. Howard Days in Cross Plains, Texas, is happening once again in 2011 (“officially”) on June 10 & 11. Hope you can make plans to be there. There will be many more details forthcoming this week as we get the REH Days Information Page tuned up for 2011, so hang with us and stay tuned. This year, under the sponsorship of The Robert E. Howard Foundation and Project Pride of Cross Plains, with assistance from the Robert E. Howard United Press Association, our “theme” is all about Howard History. 2011 marks four unique anniversaries upon which will will devote our festivities. Cross Plains, Texas is already celebrating it’s 100th anniversary as an incorporated town (you can follow this on Facebook right now), it’s the 75th year of honoring the Legacy of REH, it’s the 50th anniversary of Glenn Lord’s benchmark Howard publication, The Howard Collector, and it’s the 25th anniversary of the very first Robert E. Howard Days. Keeping that history angle in mind, we’ve chosen two Legendary REH publishers to be our Co-Guests of Honor this year: Damon Sasser and Dennis McHaney. Those of you familiar with Howard Fandom will of course recognize Damon and Dennis and we’re happy to have them at Howard Days to talk and be available to their legions of fans. Damon is the publisher of REH: Two-Gun Raconteur (“The definitive Howard Fanzine”) and runs the REH: TGR blog, and Dennis’ The Howard Review is his ultimate claim to fame (among others) in a nearly 40 year career as as a REH publisher. Dennis also runs the biggest REH message board at rehinnercircle.com. There’s lots more info to come here on the REHupa site, plus there’ll be info at the REH Foundation site, Damon’s TGR blog and Conan.com. We’re in the process of setting up the scheduling for Howard Days, plus there’ll be some truly fantastic events happening if everything falls into place this year. All of the familiar fan-friendly events are still happening: House & Town tours, Banquet & Silent Auction, Swap Meet, Postal Cancellation, Saturday BBQ plus a plethora of interesting panels & hopefully some special events. Ok, if that’s not enough enticement, keep your radio dial tuned here for updates and more detailed information. In the meantime, shouldn’t you be making your plans to get to Howard Days this year? We’ll be looking for you! Y’all come! |

Argonotes - New pulp
blog now online! The stated goal is for the blog to become a gathering place for information concerning a wide variety of twentieth century American ephemeral literature; pulps, certainly, but also dime novels, "penny dreadfuls," "shilling shockers," comic books, and their related ilk. The title of the page comes from "Argonotes," the letters page of the Munsey magazine Argosy (in this case, the scanned banner comes from the December 23, 1933 edition of Argosy All-Story Weekly). The blog's introductory posts begin with information concerning the individual whom many consider the originator of the pulp magazine industry, Frank A. Munsey. A subsequent post discusses the creation of THE GOLDEN ARGOSY. There are some great photos of the old MUNSEY MAGAZINE offices at the turn of the century. This is a great blog and one that you should bookmark and not miss! |

PULP ARK -
May 13-15, 2011! PULP ARK, the Pulp Convention/Creators' Conference debuting May 13-15, 2011 in Batesville, AR, is proud to announce that the event will be held in a location that is a primary part of local history in the historic Arkansas town. Built in 1880, the three story building that will be the home of the first PULP ARK enjoyed life as Batesville's Opera House for eight years. It was renovated and made into a mercantile store after that and then later was home to various other enterprises. It currently houses THE CINNAMON STICK, a coffee and sandwich restaurant. The over 6,000 square feet of space provides not only ample places for tables, displays and guests, but access to the lower level provides an onsite location for panels and classrooms. The lower level, largely untouched since the building's construction, except for electricity being added, served as the dressing area for the various opera stars and performers in the building's original incarnation. A hotspot of activity, The Cinnamon Stick plays host to musicians, artists, and performers on a weekly basis as well as to customers ranging in age from high school kids to senior citizens. The location, 151 W. Main Street in Downtown Batesville, is surrounded by various amenities. Currently there are three restaurants on the street; The Cinnamon Stick, Elizabeth's, and The Greasy Spoon. These three offer a variety of food and if that were not enough, various other restaurants are within a 1-5 mile radius of the location. Various antique stores, an used book store, a gym, and various other types of businesses line Batesville's historic downtown area. SCHEDULE FOR PULP ARK NOTE-This is the schedule as of today. Changes may occur. If a timeslot has 'PANELS/CLASSROOM' in it, that means it is an open spot for a panel or classroom.
