Hammer’s lovely longtime partner, Velda, has disappeared after he broke it off for her own safety, and his office is shut down.

When a woman is murdered practically on the funeral home’s doorstep, Hammer is drawn into the hunt for a cache of Nazi diamonds that makes the Maltese Falcon seem like a knickknack, and for the mysterious beauty who had been close to Doolan in his final days. But drug racketeers, who had it in for the tough old police inspector, attract Hammer’s attention as well. Soon he is hobnobbing with coke-snorting celebrities at the notorious disco Club 52 and playing footsie with a sleek lady D.A., a modern female on the make for oldfashioned Hammer. Everything leads to a Mafia social club where Hammer and his .45 come calling, initiating the wildest showdown since Spillane’s classic One Lonely Night.

Orange Pulp: The Pulp Magazine and Contemporary Culture showcases the university's world-class collection of pulp magazines and pulp paintings--starting with the acquisition of the Street and Smith archive in 1967 and continuing through the acquisitions of the A. Age of Aces - Now available!

"The Iron Ace" by William E. Barrett
In the Misty Skies of WWI France, history is written with flaming guns! And Yank airman Hugh McQuillen had smashed his way into those history books as "The Iron Ace."

Assigned as the C.O. of a Royal Flying Corps squadron, and prowling the skies in his deadly war plane adorned with the Laughing Skull, he was a grim and unrelenting instrument of war who killed Germans with such ruthless efficiency that he became known on both sides of the line as "The Assassin." McQuillen believed there was no decent way to bring men to a violent end, so he would not bow to the "chivalry of the air" practiced by his R.F.C. mates and the Germans. This made the Iron Ace a marked man, and his enemies would stop at nothing to bring an end to his savage reign.

Written by William E. Barrett, the nine tales of "The Iron Ace" appeared in Sky Birds magazine from 1933 through 1934. Barrett is best remembered for his novels, The Left Hand of God and The Lillies of the Field. But he was initially a very busy writer for the pulp magazines. And while much of his work was in the air war mags, he also contributed to the western and detective pulps. One of Barrett's most popular characters appeared in a series of stories in Dime Detective. "Needle Mike" was an undercover crime fighter who posed as a tattoo artist.

Battered Silicon Dispatch Box: LOST TREASURES FROM THE PULPS - Update!
George Vanderburgh has released updates on some of the titles in the LOST TREASURES FROM THE PULPS series.

The Compleat Adventures of the Suicide Squad
by Emile Tepperman. Hard Cover Folio 400+ pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-752-7 @ $75.00.

This volume collectes the 23 stories, some serialized in Ace G-Man Stories. The text is complete and proof read. All the illustrations and covers that accompany the stories have been scanned. The Dustjacker is approved. The delay has been the integration of the text and illustrations; and simply requires a weekend’s work when there is nothing more pressing to do.

The Tong of Terror: Adventures of Jimmy Wentworth
by Sidney Herschel Small. Hard Cover 400+ pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-775-6 @ $75.00

This volumes collects 30 stories featuring Jimmy Wentworth, a police officer born in China who battles the Chinese Tongs in San Farancisco. Some stories are serialized and there are a total of 75 pulps episodes in the series. The text is complete and the illustrations are scanned and ready for integration. The volume has been proof read. The dustjacket has been designed. The project still requires a couple more weekends with nothing else on deck.

The Compleat Adventures of Donald Everhard
by Gordon Young, with an Introduction by Richard Bleiler. HC 2V 1012 pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-784-8 @ $150.00

This set of two volumes was originally suggested by Richard Bleiler, and has received significant contributions from many sources. The last page of the last story arrived in February 2011. All but one story appeared in Adventure Magazine. All the stories are scanned and appear chronologically by date of publication. There are two covers which will be used on the Dust Jacket. This will be a 2 volume collection with alot of content — 957,500 words actually. There are 27 stories, many are serialized with 6 parts.

The Compleat Zambra the Detective
by Headon Hill with an Introduction by Bob Adey) Hard Cover Folio 500+ pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-626-1 @ $75.00

This series was suggested by Bob Adey, and he has provided all the content from obscure British magazines from the beginning of the 20th century. Some short stories, and Novellas and at least one Novel. The text has been scnned, but needs another proof reading. The work contines and this project is unlikely to appear in 2011.

The Satan Hall Omnibus
by John Carroll Daly. Hard Cover 482+ pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-754-1 @ $90.00

This volume collects 24 stories from Detective Fiction Weekly (some serials) and 2 stories from Black Mask. A couple of the tales proved to be very elusive, but all are now scanned and proof read. There are many pulp covers to include on the Dust Jacket. All the internal illustrations are scanned and need to be integrated into the text. (437.000 words)

Mr. Chang and Rafferty
by E.A. Apple, writing as A.E. Apple. Hard Cover Folio 4 Volumes ISBN 978-1-55246-829-6 @ $350.00

This project collects all the adventures of Mr. Chang (2-1/2 volumes) and Mr. Rafferty (1-1/2 volumes). The text has now been assembled, and the proof reading is almost complete. There are many pulp covers to include from Detective Story Magazine. The author’s family still lives in Canada, and is looking forward to the publication with enthusiasm. Mr. Chang is Canada’s version of Fu Manchu; and Rafferty is Apple’s incarnation of Raffles. There are a total of 1,286,735 words.

Introducing Mr. Chang . . .
by E.A. Apple. TPB 290 pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-943-9 @ $28.00

This is a small volume, designed as an introudction to the four volume set above. It features novelized, expnaded version of two of the stories contained in the project above, namey Mr. Chang and Scotland Yard and Mr. Chang’s Crime Ray. The book is set up like an Ace Double with the back story inverted and essentially two cover pages and one ISBN

The Otis Adelbert Kline Omnibus
by Otis adelber Kline 2 perhaps 3 Volumes ISBN 978-1-55246-834-0 @ $price not set

This is a very ambitious project which has been stalled. The project was set aside when BSDB was unable to reach a reasonable agreement with Kline’s estate representative. Since the author passed away in 1996. It is my clear understanding that all his published writing is out-of-copyright in Canada in 1997. BSDB shall proceed on this understanding without the involvement of the estate. The problem is to find the time. The project is over 50% complete and needs another proof reading.

The Adventures of Philip Strange
by Donald H. Kehoe. 4 Volumes ISBN 978-1-55246-837-1 @ $300.00

This is another huge project which is now essentially complete. There are a total of 64 stories, all contained in a single isse. One story proved elusive, but is now scanned and all of them have been proof read. The final step is scanning the illustrations which is problematic since most all the first page illos scan two pages. The pulp covers are all interesting but bear little revelance to the covers. This is but one character series contain in Flying Aces by Kehoe, but it is the one he is most remembered for. The set of 4 DJ’s has been designed and they are ready to fly. There are a total of 1,110,561 words

An Adventure Trilogy
by Arthur Douglas Howden Smith 3 vol. Set ISBN 978-1-55246-817-3 @ $60.00

This project contains 3 prequel novels which were serialized in Adventure Magazine to Treasure Island. They are; The Doom Trail,  Beyond the Sunset and Porto Bello Gold. Treasure Island is my childhood favourite, so to learn how the gold got there in the first place is de rigeur. The books have been scanned and partially proof read. Still looking for some original Dustjackets for the book editions to illustrate. This book will not be published in 2011.

The Yellow Menace
by Louis Tracyand introduced by John D. Squires, Trade Paperback 221pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-872-2 @ $30.00.

This is a pet project of John Squires. It is a novel which was originally serialized in the newspapers and was syndicated to accompany the appearance of the silent movie which is now lost in the sands of time, although many photos still remain. It is presently with the proof reader, and BSDB must integrate the photos, taken from a French translation into the reconstructed text. There are 80,000 words and an excellent commentary with much additional ephemeral illustated material collected by Squires.

The Schemes of Dr. Nikola
by Guy Boothby, with an introduction by Rick Lai and Aislise Bulfin. HC 400+pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-883-8 @ $75.00

This is a collection of five novels featuring a Moriarty type villain-hero.  The five are: A Bid for Fortune — Doctor Nikola Returns — The Lust of Hate — Dr. Nikola’s Experiment — Farewell, Nikola. BSDB is still waiting for the original magazine illustration to accompany the text. Aislise is assembling them in Ireland. Otherwise the project is ready to go, but could use another proof reading. There are 380,147 words in the project.

The Compleat Adventures of Robert Lauriston Jones and Others
by Charles B. Stilson,  Hard Cover 504 pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-885-2 @ $60.00

This project was originally suggested by Kevin Cook, and scanned by Brian Earl Jones of Detroit. It consists of two serialized novels from the pages of All-Star Weekly — A Man Named Jones and Land of the Shadow People as well as 8 unrelated short stories. The project is complete, and the dustjacket is presently being created by Patricia Visneskie. It will be a big book and contains 200, 000 words.

The Adventures of Gillian Hazeltine
by George F. Worts, Hard Cover Folio, 3 Volume 1000+pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-916-3 @ Price not set as yet

This is an ambitious project, by the author of an earlier lost treasure — Peter the Brazen. It collects 25 Novels, Novellas and Short stories. It collects the adventures of a lawyer who always wins his seemingly hopeless cases and drives the District Attorney mad in the process. The stories originally appeared in Argosy Magazine, and they were difficult but not impossible to assemble with the help of Randy Vanderbeek who has a legendary collection of pulp magazines. There are 858, 399 words. The project has been proof read, but the illustrations must all be scanned and integrated. There are many pulp covers to select for the Dustjackets.

The Illusions of Norgil The Magician
by Walter Gibson. Hard cover 500pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-921-7 @ Price not set as yet.

Norgil is a Magician Detective who solves 23 cases in this collection. The stories first appeared in Crime-Busters and Mystery Magazine. They are still under copyright and BSDB has to track down the Walter Gibson estate representative. 2/3 of the stories were collected by Otto Penzler when the author was still alive, but volume 3 never appeared.

The Adventurers: The Wings of Danger
by Arthur A. Nelson,  HC 400pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-889-0.

This project was originally suggested by Kevin Cook and BSDB is still waiting for the photocopies to scan. The story has already been published as an inexpensive trade paperback and may well be abandoned altogether.

The Nictzin Dyalhis Portfolio
by Nictzin Dyalhis.  Hard Cover 350pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-887-6 @ Price not set as yet

This volume collects the serialized novels from Weird Tales and short fiction from elsewhere. BSDB is still looking for one story — “The Whirling Machete” from Underworld. The rest is scanned but could use another proof reading.

Inspector West Goes to War
by John Creasey, introduced by Francis M. Nevins. Hard Cover Folio 500+pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-946-0 @ $75.00

This volume collects all five Inspector West Novels that Creasey wrote during WWII. They are elusive now and all five copies are on loan from the collection of Robert Briney. The five novels are: Inspector West Takes Charge — Inspector West Leaves Town — Inspector West at Home — Inspector West Regrets — Holiday for Inspector West. The cover illustrations were made to order by Laurie Fraser Manifold, and are delightful. Mike Nevins introduction is comprehensive and compelling. There are 409,270 words to digest.

The Crime Magnet
by Sax Rohmer, with an introduction by Gene Christie, and an essay by John Robert Colombo) Trade Paperback 221+pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-950-7 @ $30.00

This is an uncollected series of stories that appeared in This Week. They are now out-of copyright in Canada, NOT in the USA. The magazine is elusive, and copies were obtained from The Library of Congress microfilm. The magazine is oversized and difficult if not impossible to scan. The stories are being transcribed by JRC; and Larry Knapp has agreed to supply as many of the original illustrations as possible. This is indeed a work in progress.

The Compleat “Needle Mike”
by William E. Barrett.  Hard Cover 400+ pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-949-1 @ $60.00

This is a series of 16 short stories from the pages of Dime Detective, featuring a detective who created tattooes. All the pulps were obtained from Randy Vanderbeek. They are scanned and ready for layout and proofing in March 2011.

Strange Ocean Vistas of Philip M. Fisher
Philip M. Fisher, with an Introduction by Rodney Schroeder, and comprehensive commentary byGary G. Garner. Hard Cover Folio 500pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-530-1 @ $90.00

This project commenced back in 1998 at the suggestion of Gary Garner. It is still a work in progress. Gary has recently come upon eleven additional stories from obscure pulps; photocopies are in the mail and BSDB will scan and include them when received. The dutsjacket has been completed, and features a great oil painting of a Zeppelin. Completing this project is currently not in BSDB hands to do, but BSDB is optimistic that work will proceed again shortly. The project so far received has been proof read.

The Compleat Adventures of Luther McGavock and Others
by Merle Constiner. Page count not fixed. Hard Cover Folio 462+pp. ISBN 978-1-55246-794-7 @ $75.00

This is a project that has been on the list for almost six years now. There is one earlier collection of Constiner featuring the Adventures of “The Dean.” There are a total of 12 stories in Black Mask and 11 that feature Luther McGavock. These stories will be published with the permission of Keith Alan Deutsch. When compiled this was a slim volume, and so a decision was taken to include Constiner tales from other pulp magazines and amend the title accordingly. BSDB is still looking for a couple of these additional stories, and the remainder are now included and with the proof reader. The volume is now substantial and BSDB can only say the delay will eventually well reward the reader’s wait. All the illustrations and covers that accompany the stories have been scanned. The Dustjacker is approved.

The forthcoming THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF THE JACK WILLIAMSON LECTURESHIP book was already full (360+ pages) of great things by great artists and educators, but it gets better with the addition of the following:

1984: "Imaginary Cities" by Dr. Ihab Hassan
1984: "Beyond the Two Cultures" by Dr. Ihab Hassan
1988: "Commencement Address" by Frederik Pohl
2005: "Jack Williamson Lunch Lecture" by Walter Jon Williams

Frederik Pohl and Walter Jon Williams should be no strangers to sf readers, and Dr. Hassan is a leading scholar of literary postmodernism. I am very pleased to have them included in this project.
*** (RED) ALERT! ***
Right now the price of THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF THE JACK WILLIAMSON LECTURESHIP is $16.00. After publication, the price will increase to $19.00. We are arranging for as many contributors as possible to autograph the book at the 2011 Lectureship and we will be filling orders with these signed copies on a first-ordered, first-served basis.  You can preorder for $16.00 here: http://www.haffnerpress.com/jw35.html

Remember, all proceeds go to the Williamson Lectureship Fund.

NOW, WITH RESNICK! At ConFusion 2011, Mike Resnick generously gave of his time and autographed the remaining stock of IN MEMORY OF WONDER'S CHILD, the 2007 112-page memorial chapbook whose proceeds benefit the Jack and Blanche Williamson Scholarship Fund.  These are still only $15 and details are here: http://haffnerpress.com/189388726X.html.

Closing out the charitable theme, we're pleased to announce that production costs have been covered, and Haffner Press recently donated $232.77 to the Kinsman Historical Society from sales of the chapbook launched at EDMOND HAMILTON LEIGH BRACKETT DAY 2010. The chapbook will remain on sale until EHLB DAY 2011 and can be ordered here: http://www.haffnerpress.com/#EHLB2010

We will be sending the galleys back to the printer for THE COLLECTED CAPTAIN FUTURE, VOLUME TWO and THE UNIVERSE WRECKERS, THE COLLECTED EDMOND HAMILTON, VOLUME THREE at the end of the month. We expect to have copies for sale at Windy City Pulp & Paper Convention (April 15-17),if not sooner.  There's still time to take advantage of the Early Bird Special at http://haffnerpress.com for these two titles and TERROR IN THE HOUSE: THE EARLY KUTTNER, VOLUME ONE and SHANNACH-THE LAST: FAREWELL TO MARS by Leigh Brackett with the exclusive bonus chapbook, AN INSIDE LOOK.  We'll keep this offer open until these Hamilton titles are released--or until TERROR IN THE HOUSE sells out (subtle hint), whichever happens first.  Customers who take advantage of this offer will see copies of AN INSIDE LOOK shipping with SHANNACH-THE LAST.  Speaking of which . . .

SHANNACH-THE LAST: FAREWELL TO MARS by Leigh Brackett, and an introduction by Anne McCaffrey, is nearly complete. With our storage/processing space at a premium, we plan to take SHANNACH to the printer in mid-May and aim to launch the book at PulpFest.  Fingers-crossed.

As the press release is being written, it's 48°F here in Royal Oak, Michigan and after the winter of 2010/2011, it surely feels like Spring has sprung.  So, with Spring in the air (and a blizzard tomorrow, probably . . .) that means that not only is the aforementioned Windy City Pulp & Paper convention coming up, but PulpFest 2011 is on the horizon. And that means I have to get off my butt and answer PulpFest Committee member Mike Chomko in the affirmative that I am honored to offer a presentation on the Centennial of C.L. Moore.  More details as the presentation comes together.  Surprises? GUARANTEED!

Okay, astrogators, that's all for now.  But we're still cooking up goodies for 3rd & 4th qtr 2011, and you're going to love what we've got on the burners (back AND front!), so . . .

Keep Watching the Skies!

The Shadow Mystic ID Coin - Now available!
Last Call!!!!!!
It's time again to honor the tradition of old-time premiums for only a box-top and a dime! (Except the price has gone up.) We offer you The Shadow's special Mystic Coin, and what's even better, there's no box-top required!

In the old days, a mail-away premium like this would have cost you a dime and a boxtop. Adjusted for inflation, a dime in 1940 would be worth $1.57 in 2011. But you can get this sensational ID Coin for only $0.50 in today's cash. So actually, you're saving over a buck and you don't even have to send in a boxtop. How great is that!

(That same dime in 1940 would get you entry to a movie -- a double feature with newsreel, cartoon and several short subjects. Today, admission to a single feature costs close to $10. So this Mystic Shadow ID Coin is a bargain, indeed!)

Ordering instructions:
Inside the US: To order your very own Shadow Coin, enclose fifty cents (US) for each coin (limit 2) along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope (standard business size, please) to:

Outside the US: To order your very own Shadow Coin, enclose fifty cents (US) for each coin (limit 2) along with a self-addressed envelope and an international reply coupon, available from your post office, to the above address.

Please note that this is a limited edition, numbered coin. Only 1,000 have been made. Once they're gone, there will be no more.
Requests for specific numbers cannot be honored, unfortunately. Earlier orders will receive lower numbers.
Sorry, no PayPal or stamps. US cash or check, only.

PULP VAULT #14 - Coming Mid-April!

AFTER A 15 YEAR HIATUS, THE LEGENDARY PULP FANZINE, PULP VAULT
RETURNS WITH ITS LARGEST AND BEST ISSUE YET!

With contributions by Robert Weinberg, Mike Ashley, Will Murray,
David Saunders, Hugh B. Cave, and others!
Sure to be a must-have edition.

Clocking in at over 250 pages, lavishly illustrated, Pulp Vault no. 14
begins with a never before published full color cover by pulp great
Virgil Finlay!

Inside, it’s packed with great articles about, and fiction from, the pulps,  including:

BLUE BOOK—THE SLICK IN PULP CLOTHING by Mike Ashley
This in-depth look at Blue Book is the most detailed article ever on one of the longest lived and important pulps. In this 21,000 word essay, Mike Ashley explores the history of Blue Book, from its first issue to its final one nearly 70 years later. Covering a span of 613 issues, this is the definitive study of Blue Book. Profusely illustrated.

THE STRANGE STORIES THAT NEVER WAS by Robert Weinberg
When the fantasy pulp, Strange Stories, folded after its unlucky thirteenth issue, several manuscripts remained in the inventory. Most eventually saw print in other pulps of the Thrilling chain, such as Thrilling Mystery and Thrilling Adventure. Robert Weinberg dons his pulp detective hat to track down those stories which, had the magazine continued, would have made up the next few issues of Strange Stories.

THE THRILL BOOK STORY by Will Murray
One of the scarcest of all pulp titles, few magazines have the aura that legendary The Thrill Book does. In a lengthy article, Will Murray sheds light on this unique experiment from Street & Smith, claimed incorrectly by some to be the first fantasy pulp. Illustrated with every cover from this rare pulp.

THE SAGA OF SINGAPORE SAMMY by Rick Lai
Pulp author George Worts created several memorable series characters, among them Peter the Brazen and Gillian Hazeltine. One of his longest running series concerned South Seas adventure Sam Shea, also known throughout the Orient as Singapore Sammy, which saw print in Argosy and Short Stories,. His life and adventures are examined here in detail, including a complete chronology.

ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF NORMAN SAUNDERS by David Saunders
The son of one of pulpdom’s greatest artists, Norman Saunders, looks back at his father’s life and career.

INTRODUCING CYRUS NORTH by D.H. Olson
A detailed study of Donald Wandrei’s scientific detective, Cyrus North, who appeared in Clues Detective Magazine between 1938 and 1939.

ONE OLD-TIMER’S VIEW OF THE PULPS by Hugh B. Cave
One of the giants of the pulp field, Hugh B. Cave penned several articles for Pulp Vault. Here is the final installment of his reminisces about the pulps, written shortly before he passed away.

THE OUTSIDER AND NO OTHERS by Robert Barbour Johnson
Johnson was a regular contributor to Weird Tales in the 1930s and 1940s, and his “Far Below” is considered a classic. This is his account of his Weird Tales career, written in the 1970s and intended for Robert Weinberg’s pulp fanzine, Pulp, but published now for the first time.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF GLORY! by J. Edward Leithead

The Shadow: The History and Mystery of the Radio Program, 1930-54
Written by Martin Grams, Jr., author of THE GREEN HORNET:
A HISTORY OF RADIO, MOTION PICTURES, COMICS, AND TELEVISION
Coming March 31st , Pre-order now for free shipping!

THE SHADOW -- for the consideration of those who never heard a radio broadcast or read a pulp magazine -- was a supernatural sleuth with a sepulchral chuckle. A detective whose success in tracking down criminals became a popular long-running radio program from 1937 to 1954, after beginning a number of years before as a ghost-like voice introducing a bone-chilling murder play that concluded with a sinister laugh. The program, DETECTIVE STORY MAGAZINE HOUR, premiered in July of 1930 and within a few months, the horror host overshadowed the crime stories, and spawned his own magazine. Ultimately, the pulp stories ceased in 1949 but the radio program out-lasted the magazine for an additional five years.

This 820-page book (authorized through Conde Nast) documents the entire history of the long-running radio program, with rare never-before-seen photographs, interviews with cast and crew, and a carefully organized presentation of the facts. Numerous unexplored aspects of The Shadow are revealed, such as when The Shadow unmasked in the summer of 1931 on stage in St. Louis, the 1935 MacGrgeor & Sollie transcription discs, Jack Benny spoofs (including one that never made it to the air), the department store manager who was mistaken by the kids in the neighborhood of being The Shadow and hid for that particular half-hour so he wouldn't disillusion the children, pulp novels adapted for the radio program, and much more! Through extensive research of original radio scripts, newspapers on microfilm and various archives across the country, this book is sure to please both casual and devoted fans of THE SHADOW.

An extensive episode guide with plot summaries and an index enhance the book's appeal.

"For those who first heard THE SHADOW on the air when radio was young, this book will bring back memories. For those too young to remember the radio show, this is a wonderful introduction. For the collector and historian of old-time radio, there are facts here they may be seeing for the first time. For everyone else, this is a book to treasure."  -- J. Randolph Cox, Editor, DIME NOVEL ROUND-UP

"There are historians and authors who, from time to time, have been quoted on internet message boards, staged panels at conventions and magazine articles -- all borrowing the scholarship of Martin Grams," remarks Terry Salomonson of Audio Classics. "I know for a fact that in the past year, two historians were paid to do write-ups for their magazines, because of their name status, and the editors were unaware that most of the information in those articles [originated from] Martin's books and or phone calls and emails they placed to Martin."

THE SHADOW book will be released on March 31. The suggested retail price is $29.95.

The Adventures of Doc Savage - Another New Podcast was posted!
In 1985, writer Will Murray joined with producer/director Roger Rittner to create a new series for National Public Radio. Based on the novels of pulp fiction author Lester Dent, "The Adventures of Doc Savage" brought two tales of the Man of Bronze and his Fabulous Five to modern day listeners with a sparkle and drive that combined the best elements of pulp fiction, Saturday matinee cliffhangers, golden age radio production techniques, and modern technology to create a series which, today, pulp fiction fans praise as a worthy and respectful addition to the Doc Savage canon.

To celebrate the end of the original recording sessions, a party was thrown for the cast and crew who had worked to create this enduring classic. At the time, Will Murray was writing an article on the radio series for a well-known fan magazine - and, to accent his prose, he spent some time tape recording interviews with the principal actors who played Doc, Pat Savage, and other characters from the novels. Though these tapes were only intended as a writing aid, Will Murray kept them safely stored away - and now, twenty-five years later, he's graciously sharing them with Roger Rittner and Radio Archives. The result is a series of fascinating podcasts that provide a unique behind the scenes glimpse of a pulp classic in the making.

Seven podcasts have been released so far, the latest two feature an interview with actor Scott McKenna, the voice behind Long Tom Roberts, and an interview with Roger Rittner, the producer/director of "The Adventures of Doc Savage." To hear these fascinating audio presentations, as well as other related podcasts, just click on the Doc Savage link on our home page.

The new story is another Doc Savage type story that takes place in 1962 and takes a close look at some of the elements in the original character that Lester Dent created.  As with his previous story "Helping Them Take the Old Man Down"  serious philosophical and moral issues are raised in a story that is exciting and imaginative.

Blackstone Audio: WARLORD OF MARS - Coming March 1st!
In this continuation of the saga of the amazing world of Barsoom, the love story of Carter and Dejah Thoris--the red-skinned, oviparous princess--unfolds. Like all the tales in the series, fantasy and adventure combine in a style as malleable as dreams, exotic and dangerous and unending.

For six long Martian months, John Carter, Prince of Helium, has haunted the terrifying Temple of the Sun. Inside the walls of this mysterious revolving tower is his beloved wife, Dejah Thoris, the beautiful princess of Barsoom. Worse yet, his wife is trapped there with the lovely but wicked Phaidor, who has sworn to make John Carter her own--even if it means murder. How can Carter gain access to the temple, whose doors swing open only once a year? And when he does find his way inside, will he find Dejah Thoris' welcoming embrace--or her corpse?

THE SUPREME PROGRESS
Eighteen proto-science fiction tales by Paul Adam, Charles Cros, Charles Epheyre, Eugène Mouton,
Louis Mullem, X.B. Saintine, and Victorien Sardou. edited by Brian Stableford

This collection of 18 proto-science fiction tales, translated and edited by renowned science fiction writer and scholar Brian Stableford, includes such ground-breaking tales as Charles Cros' An Interastral Drama (1872), about an unlawful love between an Earthman and a Venusian woman, Victorien Sardou's The Black Pearl (1862), the first romance of forensic science, Eugène Mouton's The End of the World (1872), depicting an ecocatastrophe precipitated by global warming generated by human industrial activity, and Louis Mullem's The Supreme Progress (1890), an imaginative tour de force of unprecedented scope predicting ideas that were later to be popularized by writers such as Olaf Stapledon.

All the stories included in this volume predate the first translation into French of H.G. Wells. They are representative of a distinct tradition of romans scientifiques whose cardinal influences included astronomer Camille Flammarion and Villiers de l'Isle-Adam. This edition includes a historical introduction and notes by Stableford.

UNDERSEA ODYSSEY by Captain Danrit, adapted by Frederick Lawton
Émile-Auguste-Cyprien Driant was a famous French military strategist and politician, who died heroically before Verdun during World War I. Like a 19th century Tom Clancy, Driant also wrote, under the nom-de-plume of "Captain Danrit", a number of very popular "techno-thrillers," which he used to develop his ground-breaking military theories, especially in regards to the application of then-new technologies to modern and future warfare.

In Undersea Odyssey (1908), Driant tackled the use of the modern, 200-ton submarines which had just been introduced in the French Navy a few years earlier, campaigning for more safety measures through the harrowing and suspenseful tale of sailors trapped thirty fathoms below in the Mediterranean.

This book reprints the 1910 translation by Frederick Lawton, and includes an illustrated Driant biography and bibliography by Jean-Marc Lofficier.

Blood ‘n’ Thunder and Murania Press
2011 Publishing Schedule Announced!

Blood ‘n’ Thunder editor/publisher Ed Hulse reports that 2011 will be his busiest year yet, with the release of multiple books under his Murania Press imprint as well as a by-popular-demand return to quarterly frequency for BnT.

Murania’s first release of the year will be Ed’s comprehensive history of silent-era movie serials, DISTRESSED DAMSELS AND MASKED MARAUDERS, which was announced several months ago but delayed to include newly acquired material. This deluxe trade paperback, over 300 pages long and crammed with hundreds of illustrations, will ship end of January or beginning of February at the latest.

Murania’s Classic Pulp Adventures reprint line gets underway with the February release of SAVAGES, the first of Gordon Young’s famous Hurricane Williams novels, originally serialized in Adventure magazine. Murania reprints the text from the rare Doubleday hardcover edition, which restored material that had been left out of the pulp version. Also included are an introduction by Young scholar Tom Krabacher and “The Unlisted Legion,” the 1918 short story that introduced the two-fisted Hurricane to pulp readers.

Upcoming titles in the Classic Pulp Adventures series:
  • BAREHANDED CASTAWAYS, J. Allan Dunn’s legendary novel about shipwrecked men who struggle to survive on an island without tools, weapons, or food supplies. Originally published in a 1920 issue of Adventure after being specially commissioned by the magazine’s editors, Dunn’s yarn was a reader favorite that somehow escaped being published in book form—until now.
  • PIRATES OF THE PINES (originally titled FUR PIRATES), A. M. Chisholm’s dazzling tour de force written for a 1915 issue of Street & Smith’s The Popular Magazine. This gripping adventure story quite deliberately appropriates the structure and character types of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island and transposes them to the rugged Canadian Northwest. It’s a masterful job of fiction writing that will enthrall readers whether or not they’re familiar with Stevenson’s book.
  • THE MYSTERY OF THE DOUBLE CROSS has the historic distinction of being the first novel ever licensed by a motion-picture production company for adaptation as a cliffhanger serial. Written by Gilson Willets and published in 1910, it weaves an intricate tale of romance, mystery and adventure set in Mexico. Revolving around the struggle for a fabulous inheritance, The Double Cross puts American-born John St. John in close proximity to unscrupulous fortune hunters, a mysterious masked stranger, and the fabled “Golden Senorita” rumored to be descended from a lost Aztec tribe.
Non-fiction Murania Press books scheduled for 2011 release will include THE BEST OF BLOOD ‘N’ THUNDER (which collects the best articles from the long-out-of-print first 12 issues of BnT and adds new material to them) and a revised-and-expanded edition of THE BLOOD ‘N’ THUNDER GUIDE TO COLLECTING PULPS (which will be half again as long as the original 2007 edition and features a newly written section devoted specifically to recent pulp reprints).

The next issue of
BLOOD ‘N’ THUNDER (Winter 2011) will ship in February. It contains articles on Doc Savage by Will Murray and Tom Barnett, Ed Hulse on the making of Gunga Din and the 1917 Hearst-produced serial Patria, pulp and paperback reviews by Gary Lovisi and Mark Trost, a reprint of the first Captain Future comic-book story, and previews of the upcoming Windy City and PulpFest conventions, among other things.

Each BnT issue and Murania Press release will be covered in more detail as they become available for shipping.

Dashiell Hammett - Long-lost story to be published!
Fifty years after Dashiell Hammett's death, Strand Magazine will publish a long-lost Hammett short story. The story, "So I Shot Him," is one of about a dozen of the writer's pieces that were never printed anywhere. Word is that, unlike many works authors choose not to publish, this 12-page thriller is high-quality and complete.

Andrew Gulli, managing editor of
Strand Magazine, stumbled across the piece while poking through Hammett's papers at the University of Texas at Austin. He's featuring it in his Februay 28 issue.

David L. Golemon: PRIMEVAL (An Event Group Thriller) - Coming June 28, 2011!
Colonel Jack Collins and the Event Group search for a lost Russian treasure in Golemon's latest thriller. A rare diamond and a battered journal launch a quest to uncover secrets about the Romanov dynasty. When Russian assassins kidnap Collins' sister, the colonel and his team must ramp up quickly, as the missing treasure is the key to saving her life. The group ends up in Northern Canada, where they must enter a cave network believed by locals to be home to legendary creatures called They Who Follow. These monsters are said to devour human flesh; no one has ever survived a journey into their caves. Golemon combines his typical action-adventure fare with more thriller elements this time, and he focuses more on the personal stakes of his characters. With or without enhancements to his basic formula, Golemon knows how to make readers turn the pages, and Primeval will only further enhance his reputation.

David L. Golemon: THE SUPERNATURALS - Coming in October!
Summer Place—built at the turn of the twentieth century by one of the richest and most powerful men in the world. Tucked away in the pristine Pocono Mountains and used as a summer retreat for the rich and famous, Summer Place was the description of charm and beauty. Built to spec, the twenty-four bedrooms and manicured grounds sparkled. It was truly a home that was as warm and beautiful as any well-appointed resort.

For a retreat that boasted the most glamorous setting in all of America, the gable roofed mansion was the epitome of tranquility…until 1925 when something went horribly wrong. Once homey and inviting, Summer Place had now become a haven for evil incarnate. A dark presence came to the yellow and white trimmed mansion, and it was now collecting the souls it needed to survive and thrive amongst the mountains that surround it.

Closed down by the owners and not lived in since the start of World War II, Summer Place has been maintained in its pristine condition, waiting for the team of men and women to discover its dark secret. In a national television broadcast reminiscent of Orson Wells War of the Worlds broadcast of 1939, America will witness on live television the coming of true evil, and it will be up to Professor Gabriel Kennedy, a disgraced Psychologist who had once faced the evil inside of Summer Place and came away a true believer in its extraordinary power. Now, along with the paranormal ghost hunting team; The Supernaturals, Kennedy will draw out and try to end the haunting that has been going on at Summer Place for over a hundred years.

You are asked to bear witness to the battle of wills as the thing inside of Summer Place will not go down without a fight!

"The Wailing Skull" by Vaughn Bryant from SECRET AGENT "X", October, 1935
This Ozark hotel had an oppressive air of silent menace, and its gloomy lobby smelled like a tomb. But no tomb ever echoed with such a weird and unearthly wail. And even tombs do not have crucified bodies with grinning skulls for heads.
"Wake Up to Nightmare" by Norman A. Daniels from 10-STORY DETECTIVE, January, 1947
Because a wizard of Wall Street had a dream of murder, the department turned it over to matter-of-fact Detective Daley. But when that nightmare vision turned into daytime reality, it took all of Daley's crime-wise conjuring to bring the killer to bay.

F. Paul Wilson: THE DARK AT THE END - Coming Summer 2011 - Pre-order Now!
The final novel in the Repairman Jack series leading up to NIGHTWORLD
Repairman Jack unbound.

Shortly after they met, Glaeken extracted a promise from Jack that he would make no direct attacks on Rasalom. But things have changed. Glaeken's mortality and advanced age are no longer secret, so there's no need to hold Jack in check any longer. Freed from his promise, Jack begins to prepare for a final showdown with Rasalom. But first he must find him.

Other changes are occurring as well. Jack, for instance: He's healing at an accelerated rate – much like Glaeken did when he was immortal. This can only mean that Glaeken's time is almost up. When he dies, Jack takes his place.

Rasalom continues his plots against the Lady. She has "died" twice in recent years – a third time and she will be gone, leaving a clear path for the Otherness to infiltrate this reality. But friction is growing within the ranks aligned with the Otherness. Ernst Drexler, formerly Rasalom's right-hand man, learns he is being bypassed, and fears he will be left out in the cold when the Change comes.

And then there's Dawn Pickering, searching for her supposedly dead baby. She finds him – along with Rasalom and the hated Gilda – in a mansion in a remote Long Island coastal town.

Now the stage is set for Jack's assault on Rasalom. He must succeed on his first try, because he's unlikely to get another. But he also must safely retrieve Dawn's baby and minimize collateral damage. He comes up with a foolproof plan.

But fools are always with us…

Haffner Press - Astounding News Update!
Greetings everybody. A lot to share, announce, and update in re: goings-on at Haffner Press, so getting to it:

THE UNIVERSE WRECKERS: THE COLLECTED EDMOND HAMILTON, VOLUME THREE and THE COLLECTED CAPTAIN FUTURE, VOLUME TWO are at the printer and the galleys are undergoing their final check. Barring mishaps, we plan to have copies in mid-March.

We are pleased to announce that Grand Master Anne McCaffrey will write the introduction to Leigh Brackett's SHANNACH—THE LAST: FAREWELL TO MARS. We can also announce that the endpapers for SHANNACH will feature artwork by Ed Emshwiller from PLANET STORIES. This will be a spectacular title for your bookshelf.

We have been running an Early-Bird special for an exclusive book, AN INSIDE LOOK, for (pre)orders of Kuttner's TERROR IN THE HOUSE, UNIVERSE WRECKERS, CAPT. FUTURE #2, and SHANNACH. We will continue to run this offer until we take possession of stock on UNIVERSE WRECKERS and CAPT. FUTURE #2, so if you're thinking about getting in on this offer, the clock is ticking . . .

We have locked the contents for THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF THE JACK WILLIAMSON LECTURESHIP and will be announcing the retail price and begin taking pre-orders later this week.

The folks handling permissions for Ralph McQuarrie have come through big-time with the delivery of the cover art for AT THE HUMAN LIMIT, THE COLLECTED STORIES OF JACK WILLIAMSON, VOLUME EIGHT. The artwork for the endpapers is also finished and we hope to launch this title at the 35th Jack Williamson Lectureship on April 1st at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.

We have just closed the deal for the contents of the slipcased/limited edition of TERROR IN THE HOUSE, THE EARLY KUTTNER, VOLUME ONE:
  • 1/75 copies
  • Signed by Dr. Garyn G. Roberts & Stephen Haffner
  • A chapbook available only with this edition, with:
    • Two collaborations with Robert Bloch: "The Black Kiss" and "The Grab Bag"
    • *all* of Henry Kuttner's poetry
    • A gallery of the interior illustrations for each so-decorated story included in TERROR IN THE HOUSE
  • Matching Black Arristox cloth slipcase
The slipcased limited edition of DETOUR TO OTHERNESS will be shipping in mid-February and it is beautiful! A *few* left if you're wondering . . .

Tid-bits: Work continues on the slipcased editions of THE VAMPIRE MASTER and STARK AND THE STAR KINGS (as in, we keep adding more stuff), and they should be announced as available soon. A copy of the manuscript of Henry Kuttner's THUNDER IN THE VOID was delivered to Mike Resnick last week (he's doing the intro) and design-work is nearing completion on TALES FROM SUPER-SCIENCE FICTION, edited by Robert Silverberg.

We have a number of incredible projects to announce in the coming months, so keep your etherwave-set tuned to Haffner Press and be sure to follow us on Facebook.

Until next time, fellow astrogators, may the (solar) winds be at your back and . . .  Keep Watching the Skies!

Haffner Press - Thirty-Five Years of the Jack Williamson Lectureship!
When Dr. Jack Williamson retired from his position as Professor of English at Eastern New Mexico University in 1977, the university launched a lectureship series in his honor. The focus of the Lectureship was to be the sciences and the humanities and the first guests were Frederik Pohl and James E. Gunn.

Thirty-Five years later, the Jack Williamson Lectureship continues to draw speakers, writers, editors, and fans to honor one of our favorite authors. Celebrating this event will be a new book THIRTY-FIVE YEARS OF THE JACK WILLIAMSON LECTURESHIP.

From teachers and scientists, to grandmasters and modern sf writers, this 360-page trade paperback collects a variety of speeches and presentations from the past 35 years. As of this writing, we are still adding contributors.

Also included is coverage of several previous Lectureships in Locus Magazine by Charles N. Brown and a chronology of all the Lectureships by Williamson's bibliographer Richard A. Hauptmann. Closing the book is a gallery of promotional artwork from the last 15 years and a 1000-word story by Jack Williamson from 2004, "Dream of Earth."

*Proceeds from the sale of this book will benefit the Williamson Lectureship Fund*

James Rollins: THE DEVIL COLONY (Sigma Force Novel)  - Coming June 21, 2100!
Could the founding of America be based on a fundamental lie, one coded in secrets that stretch back to before the birth of Christ, to a mystery buried in the prehistoric past? The truth lies hidden within the ruins of a cursed lost colony of the Americas. A place known only as: THE DEVIL COLONY. During a sweat lodge ceremony in an Indian cave in the Rocky Mountains, a horrible massacre ensues. Bodies are found blistered and burned and purposefully positioned to form two shapes: a five-pointed star and a sickle-shaped moon. One man recognizes the warning behind the gruesome murders: Painter Crowe, director of Sigma. He has seen these two symbols before and knows the deaths were a personal threat - one of the dead is his beloved cousin. From the frozen volcanic peaks of Iceland to the blistering deserts of the American Southwest, from the tombs of dead presidents to the gold vaults of Fort Knox, Painter Crowe joins forces with Commander Grayson Pierce and an unlikely ally - a woman who may have had a hand in the murders - to penetrate the shadowy heart of a dark cabal that has been manipulating American history since the founding of the thirteen colonies. But can he discover the truth - one that could topple governments - before it destroys all he holds dear? Including the woman he loves.

HOBO STORIES By Patrick & Terence Casey
6x9-inch perfect bound; 332 pages, $20.00 postpaid
Introduction by John Locke

Hobos spoke their own language, lived by their own code. Veterans of the road enslaved younger runaways, to use them as servants, to dispatch their innocent faces to back doors to beg. True hobos scorned brethren who accepted work instead of handouts. To do nothing, to pay nothing, was the hobo dream, the true measure of freedom, the true test of authenticity.

Patrick and Terence Casey wrote five stories set in Hoboland--that is, the backroads, railyards, and seedy hobo jungles of America where tramps traveled and congregated. The initial story appeared in THE SATURDAY EVENING POST (1914), the remainder in the leading pulp ADVENTURE (1916-21). Together, they constitute a grand saga of life in a strange, often violent underworld of yesteryear. HOBO STORIES collects the series.

The amazing Caseys . . . they were two brothers from San Francisco who sold regularly to the pulps as teenagers. Soon thereafter, they conned their way into the prestigious pages of ADVENTURE with tales of actual jungles--in Borneo and Central America. Included in HOBO STORIES is a biography of the Caseys, an examination of the roots of their hobo fiction, and, from the pulp ROMANCE (1920), their revelatory short story about the adventures of a teenage pulp writer.

Pro Se Preoductions: YESTERYEAR - Coming soon!
Pro Se Productions, producers of Pulp Magazines beginning in August, 2010 and Pulp author Tommy Hancock, a nominee for Best New Writer in the First Annual Pulp Ark Awards (voting underway now), announce today that Hancock's first full length novel which will also be Pro Se's first novel to publish is in the final stages of editing and will debut within the next 4-6 weeks?.

YESTERYEAR is Hancock's first full length novel work, but has been a work in progress for nearly ten years.  Now thanks to Pro Se Productions, this long told, but little read tale will finally be shared with the public.   And it sports a fantastic cover drawn by Jay Piscopo!  "The three characters," Hancock stated to ALL PULP, "featured on the cover are sort of the crux of this whole universe while the book one of them is holding is the lynchpin that could send that world spinning into oblivion.  Jay's work brings out the contradiction of glory and darkness that these heroes go through as well very clearly illustrates character traits of each of them without a word on the cover about them!  The attention to detail and the focus being on that book...that all important book...makes this cover jump out at me and this would not be the same book with Jay's cover."

According to Hancock, the basic concept is that the YESTERYEAR world was a fairly normal place until October 29, 1929.  Not only did the world very nearly collapse under economic depression, but something seemingly more positive happened.  A man flew.  Without an airplane.  Under his own power. And he wore a mask.

This singular incident sets off the appearance of a string of Heroes, taking their name from the name given to the first of their kind by the papers-Hero- who are more or less pulpy in nature, although some tip their hat to the super hero genre born from the pulps.  These heroes enjoy a particular 'golden age' well into

the 1950s.  But in 1955, a well known author, who also happened to have been a Hero, vanishes and along with him a much rumored manuscript that, through the use of newspaper articles, letters, and stories revealed the true obsidian side of this golden age. Both author and book have been missing.  Until now.

"There are really three stories," Hancock said, "being told in YESTERYEAR. One is the modern tale, of how this book with all these alleged secrets pops back up and sets the entire world, most definitely the inheritors and keepers of the Heroes legacies on edge.  Another one is the titular manuscript itself.  Pieces of it will be printed in the book and will tell stories of how the Heroes were seen in their day, the two fisted, heart of gold stories.  Then other parts of the manuscript will be used as well and these are the ones that aren't so shiny but oh so revealing.  I hope with this concept I've pulled off something that's not really been done extensively.  Construct an universe, deconstruct it, yet allow enough of what was good about it, even it was a ball of lies, to remain for the reconstructing that must follow."

Hancock stated that the plan currently is to have interior art in the book as well from an up and coming artist in the Pulp field, but that this book will be available by the end of March and will not be held up by any delays. The book is being published by Pro Se Productions (http://www.proseproductions.com/, pulpmachine.blogspot.com).  Hancock also pointed out that the book, including the graphics work on the awesome cover, will be designed and formatted by Sean Ali, Pro Se Design Specialist and a long time supporter of Hancock's works.  Also, the book will open with an introduction by noted Pulp author Derrick Ferguson, the first writer other than Hancock to write characters from YESTERYEAR universe almost ten years ago.

PULP ARK, the Pulp Convention/Creators' Conference debuting May 13-15, 2011 in Batesville, AR, is proud to announce that the event will be held in a location that is a primary part of local history in the historic Arkansas town. Built in 1880, the three story building that will be the home of the first PULP ARK enjoyed life as Batesville's Opera House for eight years. It was renovated and made into a mercantile store after that and then later was home to various other enterprises. It currently houses THE CINNAMON STICK, a coffee and sandwich restaurant. The over 6,000 square feet of space provides not only ample places for tables, displays and guests, but access to the lower level provides an onsite location for panels and classrooms. The lower level, largely untouched since the building's construction, except for electricity being added, served as the dressing area for the various opera stars and performers in the building's original incarnation.

A hotspot of activity, The Cinnamon Stick plays host to musicians, artists, and performers on a weekly basis as well as to customers ranging in age from high school kids to senior citizens. The location, 151 W. Main Street in Downtown Batesville, is surrounded by various amenities. Currently there are three restaurants on the street; The Cinnamon Stick, Elizabeth's, and The Greasy Spoon. These three offer a variety of food and if that were not enough, various other restaurants are within a 1-5 mile radius of the location. Various antique stores, an used book store, a gym, and various other types of businesses line Batesville's historic downtown area.

THE SERIALFEST 2011 FILM FESTIVAL - May 20-21-22, 2011!

The dates for SerialFest 2011 are now confirmed for May 20-21-22.
It will be held in Ithaca, New York, home of the Pearl White EXPLOITS OF ELAINE serials,
BEATRICE FAIRFAX, MYSTERIES OF MYRA and many more.
Featuring a tour of original serial shooting locations.

Serials in consideration for presentation include:
  • THE TRAIL OF THE OCTOPUS (1919)
  • The remastered original DRUMS OF FU MANCHU
  • The restored DAREDEVILS OF THE WEST
  • The restored Republic serial THE LONE RANGER
  • THE MASKED RIDER (1919)
  • THE NEW ADVENTURES OF TARZAN with Herman Brix
A unique feature planned this year will be a tour of still-existing original serial shooting locations and reconstructions of sets on which serials were shot with possible re-enactments, including undoubtedly a scene from the Squadron's new  MYSTERIES OF MYRA project. Ithaca was chosen as a prime shooting location by early filmmakers because of its wide variety of scenic landscapes such as cliffs and waterfalls which are still there today. Historian Terry Harbin will take you on a trolley tour.

Events will take place at a movie theater and an additional meeting/screening room where discussions with authors and guests and trivia games such as the serial trivia game, staged readings and other live presentations by experts and authors can also take place. No bootleg/cult porn material will be present at the event, which will be classic-cinema history oriented and family-friendly. Further details on the program and location will be forthcoming as soon as we arrange them.

A complimentary serial DVD will be given out to guests who attend dinners.
General admission will be FREE.
Hope to see you there!

The Shadow Mystic ID Coin - Now available!

John Olsen

USA

Outside the US: To order your very own Shadow Coin, enclose fifty cents (US) for each coin (limit 2) along with a self-addressed envelope and an international reply coupon, available from your post office, to the above address.

Please note that this is a limited edition, numbered coin. Only 1,000 have been made. Once they're gone, there will be no more.
Requests for specific numbers cannot be honored, unfortunately. Earlier orders will receive lower numbers.
Sorry, no PayPal or stamps. US cash or check, only.
(Limit two (2) Mystic Shadow Coins per household, please. Supplies are limited, and I want as many Shadow fans as possible to have one. Offer good while supplies last or until March 1, 2011.)
