In the following table, the date given is that of the cut-off date for the bibliography, where known, or the publication date of the latest known edition otherwise. Sadly every bibliography is out of date as soon as it is published, although the wealth of information on recent publications available on the web, particularly in The Locus Index, has meant that data prior to 1984 is much more important in a bibliography than data from 1984 to the present day. Similarly, if an author stopped publishing new material (for whatever reason) in 1975, then a bibliography that is complete up to 1980 may contain everything of relevance.
To avoid unnecessary duplication, the author bibliographies are classified by series, with details of the series (and their availability) given in the Publishers Index. Bibliographies that are not part of a series contain specific links to full details of the bibliography, which are given at the end of the page.
The final column possibly needs a little explanation. This is an attempt to devise a taxonomy of bibliographies that will give the potential buyer a rough idea of the scope of the bibliography in question. At the moment, there are four broad categories:
Note that there are any number of checklists available on the web, and no attempt is made to list them here (see the Internet Speculative Fiction DataBase and Fantastic Fiction Author Bibliographies for example). The only checklists that are included are those which have been offered for sale commercially.

An introductory biographical section
traces Ackerman's early enthusiasm for pulp magazines and film productions of
a fantastic nature, his rise to prominence in "fandom," his acquisition
of memorabilia, his work as a literary agent, the founding of his landmark magazine
in 1958, and his friendship with a number of performers and personnel from genre
films. The extensive bibliography includes listings of books, published letters,
articles, fiction, verse, speeches, screenplays, comics, discography, liner
notes, and periodicals edited and published by Ackerman. A thorough filmography,
a selected listing of nationally televised appearances, and rare photographs
of Ackerman throughout his lifetime complete this definitive catalog of one
of science fiction's most interesting personalities.
This website lists all known publications of his fiction & poetry by Grant Allen, providing annotations for most items.
This volume lists all known works by Asimov (both fiction and non-fiction), including reprints in the English language for short stories and articles. The bibliography is available as a free download from Cooper's website or as a printed book from Lulu in both paperback and hardback versions.
Not Seen. According to Burgess this checklist lists publication details of Barker's books only.
Possibly the most frustrating bibliography around. While the compilers have clearly done a massive amount of research into the writings of Bedford-Jones, locating in particular his appearances in very odd magazines. However, the bibliography has then been arranged by magazine only which, in the absence of an index, makes this effectively useless as a reference tool and relegates it to the realm of curiosity. For the curious, the volume is believed still to be in print from The Battered Silicon Dispatch Box, P.O. Box 122, Sauk City, Wisconsin 53583-0122, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Possibly the most impressive bibliography yet produced, from the pen of the indefatigable Mike Ashley. Not only does it contain anything you might ever want to know about Blackwood, but the information is easily accessible and logically formatted. This volume is believed still to be in print from Greenwood Press, 88 Post Road West, WESTPORT, Connecticut 06881, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
A detailed bibliography of everything Robert Bloch has written, including fanzine material, teleplays and screenplays, and listing all reprints (both in English and foreign language editions), all of it heavily illustrated with book and magazine covers, film stills and similar. Copies are available from the author, , P.O. Box 23069, San Jose, CA 95153-3069, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Not Seen. According to Burgess an extensive, but incomplete, bibliography of all material Boucher wrote, including all English-language reprints.
Not Seen. According to Burgess The Ray Bradbury Companion is a comprehensive primary and secondary bibliography of Ray Bradbury up to 1973 and Bradbury Bits & Pieces (from a different author and publisher) extends this to 1989, although neither volume contains much detail of foreign language editions.
A new bibliography is currently "in progress" from David J. Syracuse.
A comprehensive primary and secondary bibliography of Fredric Brown, including foreign-language translations, a selection of cover reproductions as illustrations, and an assortment of tribute articles. Although published before the recent resurgence of interest in Brown (primarily by Dennis McMillan), and long out-of-print, this is still an essential volume for anyone interested in the author.
A comprehensive primary and secondary bibliography of Edgar Rice Burroughs by Robert B. Zeuschner. Published in 1996 by McFarland & Company, it is currently out-of-print but is fairly easily obtained from the usual secondhand sources.
Not Seen. According to Burgess this comprehensive bibliography lists "every printing of every book that Cabell ever produced and the vast majority of all other works of interest".
This comprehensive bibliography is based on Campbell's own records and contains an exhaustive record of all of his novels, stories, poems and edited volumes, including translations and reprints. Information is complete through 1994. The bibliography is still available, for $9.95, from Necronomicon Press, P.O. Box 1304, WEST WARWICK, RI 02893, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Not Seen. "A bibliography of Clark's works, illustrated in color, along with his first professional sale, "A Trip Out For Mr. Harrison", which was not printed but rather read aloud over the radio."
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is a brief checklist with only selective details of reprints.
Detailed listing split into three sections - Titles, Publications & Front Covers.
This is a comprehensive primary bibliography, but omits secondary material and some minor categories such as book reviews (by Derleth). It was published by Scarecrow Press and is No. 59 in the "Scarecrow Author Bibliographies" series. An update, entitled August Derleth: A Selective Checklist of His Books and Assorted Commentary by Many Hands, was published in 1996 by the August Derleth Society.
Not Seen. A comprehensive primary bibliography, including citations for short stories, novels, comics, periodicals, foreign language, audio visual and published/unpublished movies and teleplays, with annotation by Richmond and illustrated with hundreds of color and black & white illustrations and photographs. Copies are available from the publisher.
This website lists all known publications by, and about, Philip José Farmer, including both English language and translated items, with annotations for most items as well as scans of the covers of all relevant books/magazines.
This comprehensive bio-bibliography, by Phil Harbottle, is an exhaustive record of all of Fearn's publications, in all media, together with a biographical study of his career. Unfortunately it is long out of print, although the author has been promising a new edition for some time.
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is a comprehensive primary and secondary bibliography of H. Rider Haggard except, curiously, for his short fiction.
A comprehensive primary and secondary bibliography, including foreign-language translations. The book is still available from Wildside Press.
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is a fairly comprehensive primary bibliography of Hodgson's writings, but with very little detail on the contents of collections and such-like.
A comprehensive primary bibliography, including foreign-language translations. Reprinted in 2008 by Wildside Press and still available from them. In addition, the author has made a PDF version of the bibliography freely available at www.rehfoundation.org/2010/12/15/download-the-neverending-hunt/
An extensive online bibliography is also available on the Howard Works website.
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is a comprehensive primary and secondary bibliography of Jacobi, although somewhat deficient in organisation.
This website lists all known publications by, and about, Tanith Lee, including both English and translated items, together with annotations and cover illustrations for all the books.
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is a first-class primary and secondary bibliography, on a par with Mike Ashley's bibliography of Algernon Blackwood.
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is a comprehensive primary and secondary bibliography, including foreign-language translations.
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is a comprehensive primary and secondary bibliography, albeit in somewhat quirky format.
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is not really a bio-bibliography, but rather lies somewhere between checklist and working bibliography.
A detailed primary bibliography of works by McCaffrey, although foreign-language information is often fairly rudimentary. Self-published by the author (Matt Hargreaves), the intention was for regular supplements to keep the bibliography up to date but, as far as I am aware, only one of these (covering 1992-1994) was ever published.
This volume is probably still available from Matthew D. Hargreaves, P.O. Box 66099, SEATTLE, WA 98166-0099, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Despite the title, this volume only contains three brief pages of secondary material. However, it more than makes up for this with its coverage of primary material, which is one of the most extensive ever seen, covering not only fiction and non-fiction by Moorcock, but also comic strips, fanzines, music lyrics and even related artworks. Despite its age (coverage is complete to the end of 1979) it will remain an invaluable source of information on Moorcock's early work until such time as the long-rumoured definitive Moorcock bibliography appears.
The book is still available from Pandora's Books Ltd (Box 54, Neche, ND 58265, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA) for $10.00 (trade paperback), $16.00 (hardcover) or $25.00 (signed hardcover) (http://www.pandora.ca).
A fairly comprehensive primary and secondary bibliography, including foreign-language translations. Sadly, however, it restricts itself to the "respectable" books Resnick has written, and completely ignores the "226 softcore sex, Gothic, and doctor-nurse novels" he has admitted to writing between 1964 and 1976. The book is still available from Alexander Books, 65 Macedonia Road, Alexander, NC 28701, USA (http://www.abooks.com).
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is a fairly comprehensive primary bibliography, including foreign-language translations, but is now, sadly, out-of-date.
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is a fairly typical working bibliography, limited to primary material only.
This is a massive set of four volumes as follows:
(for a more detailed description see http://www.sfsite.com/06b/mpu130.htm). Still available from http://alangullette.com/lit/shiel/jdsbooks.htm.
This website lists all known publications byClifford D. Simak, including both English language and translated items, with annotations for most items as well as scans of the covers of all relevant books/magazines.
Not Seen. According to Amazon this is "The complete(ish) guide to collecting the works of Guy N. Smith. A journey into collecting the works of prolific author Guy Newman Smith. The book covers all genres of the Great Scribbler's writing and contains over 950 pictures and useful details that would assist any would-be collector. The author has endeavoured to list and visually represent, through over 950 colour pictures, the vast catalogue of output from Guy N. Smith's 65+ years in print; from the early stories he had published in the Tettenhall Observer and Advertiser paper as a teenager through to the present day." Available from Amazon.co.uk
Not Seen. According to Burgess this is a comprehensive bibliography of both primary and secondary material.
An unusual volume, with 18 of the 29 pages occupied by a biography, and the remainder by a primary bibliography (plus annotations and selected book reviews) in chronological order. While far from comprehensive, the bibliography does contain all major items together with many minor items not listed elsewhere.
Contains sections on Books; Short Fiction; Nonfiction; and Poetry. Available from the publisher.
