This reprint carries this editor's note: "At 50 one may be permitted to reminisce, so Good Housekeeping recalls this story it laughed at over 30 years ago. Read by the author at a "Discovery" dinner at the Hotel Astor in 1905, it has been three times reprinted -- in 1908, '11, '18 -- because of reader request for copies.
