The
Book Palace: COMPLETE CONAN OF CIMMERIA VOLUME 3 - January
2010 update! A big thank you for all your support and encouragement on this project. It has taken over 12 months to get this book to print, and your advance orders have exceeded our expectations. We were ready to go to print in late October when we closely examined the proof colour plates and decided that we could do better on two of them. We decided to rescan the originals and tweak the transparencies to produce printed versions much closer to the stunning original paintings. This delayed our printing until December. All the colour plates now look magnificent. We are sure that when you all see the results you will appreciate the short delay in getting your hands on this great book. The books are now all printed and at the binding/finishing stage. As we are printing at our regular Hong Kong printers the books are scheduled to ship to us late January. We expect to receive them and mail out all advance orders in late February.

Conan Feature Film - Casting Update: Jason Momoa is Conan! Lionsgate and Millenium Films have reportedly picked the actor to play the lead role in Marcus Nispel's reinvention of Robert E. Howard's Conan. Three actors were auditioned for the role, Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), Kellan Lutz, and Jason Momoa. 30-year-old Jason Momoa was selected to play Conan. Momoa is best known for his run on "Stargate Atlantis." He also appears in HBO's upcoming mini-series "Game of Thrones." No doubt Momoa is a popular choice with Stargate fans. Momoa stands at 6-feet 4-inches, so he has the height to fit the part. Latino Review says that an offer has been put out to Mickey Rourke to play Conan's father Corin. The movie is scheduled to start production in Bulgaria on March 15. |

Doc Savage ongoing series from DC -
Coming Fall 2010; creative teams revealed! DC has previously announced their FIRST WAVE miniseries which creates a new pulp universe featuring Doc Savage, The Spirit, The Batman, Black Canary, Justice Inc., The Blackhawks, and Rima the Jungle Girl. The miniseries will run for six issues starting in March 2010. The creative team is Brian Azzarello and Rags Morales with covers by J. G. Jones and variant covers by comic industry greats starting with Neal Adams! DC has also announced that following FIRST WAVE, new ongoing Doc Savage and Spirit series will debut. At long last, the creative team for the new ongoing Doc Savage series is revealed! This title will be one of DC's $3.99 titles that features a 10 page backup series. In this case, the backup series will be Justice Inc. The
creative teams are: Doc Savage Writer: Paul Malmont (The Chinatown Death Cloud Peril) Artist: Howard Porter (Justice League, Flash, The Ray) Justice Inc. Writer: Jason Starr (crime novelist) Artist: Scott Hampton (Simon Dark, Pigeons From Hell) The above news was revealed in the latest issue of Sanctum Books DOC SAVAGE (#32), which is now on sale. This issue contains a three page article by FIRST WAVE and DOC SAVAGE editor Joey Cavalieri. Cavalieri says that DC's vision is to make Doc Savage the cornerstone of a new line of books featuring a new kind of high adventure for a new century. The vision includes giving the books a kind of timelessness. The New York sky will be crowded with dirigibles, but there will also be computers on every desktop. Bad guys will carry tommy guns, but they will stay in contact with one another on cell phones. Doc Savage will reportedly remain the same character that we know from the pulps. What will be different is the world that he inhabits. It will be a world where you are guilty before being proven innocent. Life is cheap and everyone has their price. The United States will be the primary global power, but terrorist states threaten it. Europe exists, but Eastern Europe in under control by mobsters. There are lots of world changes to provide springboards for interesting and exciting stories. Pickup a copy of DOC SAVAGE #32 for the full article which includes a preview of the FIRST WAVE artwork by Rags Morales.

She catches a glimpse of the baby as it’s whisked away and is terrified by what she sees. Later she’s told the baby died of birth defects, but she doesn’t believe it. Neither does Jack. James Rollins: ALTAR OF EDEN
- Now available! Following the fall of Baghdad, two Iraqi boys stumble upon armed men looting the city zoo. The floodgates have been opened for the smuggling of hundreds of exotic birds, mammals, and reptiles to Western nations, but this crime hides a deeper secret. Amid a hail of bullets, an underground secret weapons lab is ransacked--and something even more horrific is set free. Seven years later, Louisiana state veterinarian Lorna Polk stumbles upon a fishing trawler shipwrecked on a barrier island. The crew is missing or dead, but the boat holds a frightening cargo: a caged group of exotic animals, clearly part of a black market smuggling ring. Yet, something is wrong with these beasts, disturbing deformities that make no sense: a parrot with no feathers, a pair of Capuchin monkeys conjoined at the hip, a jaguar cub with the dentition of a saber-tooth tiger. They also all share one uncanny trait--a disturbingly heightened intelligence. To uncover the truth about the origin of this strange cargo and the terrorist threat it poses, Lorna must team up with a man who shares a dark and bloody past with her, now an agent of the U.S. Border Patrol, Jack Menard. Together, the two must hunt for a beast that escaped the shipwreck while uncovering a mystery tied to fractal science and genetic engineering, all to expose a horrifying secret that traces back to mankinds earliest roots. But can Lorna stop what is about to be born upon the altar of Eden before it threatens not only the world, but also the very foundation of what it means to be human? Robert E. Howard
Days 2010 - June 11 and 12! REHupa and the REH Foundation are in the early stages of working with Project Pride and gearing up for Robert E. Howard Days 2010. Set aside June 11th and 12th, check your ammo and point your pony in the direction of Cross Plains, Texas, for at least two (and usually four) days chock full of Howard Mania. The 2010 version of HD is geared towards The Illustrators of Robert E. Howard, and to that end we’ve invited Jim & Ruth Keegan to be our Guests of Honor. Jim & Ruth, in additon to being the fantastic Art Duo responsible for illustrating the Del Rey two-volume set of THE BEST OF ROBERT E. HOWARD and the upcoming EL BORAK The Desert Adventures, are the creators of The Adventures of Two-Gun Bob, the wonderful biographical graphic comic strip that appears in every edition of a REH title from Dark Horse Comics. There is much more planned on the art side of programming, including an REH art display, at least one book, original drawings from pros like the Keegans, Gary Gianni, Mark Schultz (et al) to be auctioned off at the Banquet and sold at the Swap Meet – all for the benefit of the Howard House and Project Pride. All the regular Howard activities are there as well: The REH House is open to all (as is the Gift Shop), there’ll be Walking and Bus Tours, Celebration Banquet & Silent Auction, Swap Meet, Caddo Peak BBQ, plus the great fellowship we afford each other in gathering and Talking ’bout Bob. The Poetry Throwdown is coming back in a revised, insect-free fashion, and this year we will present the First Annual Robert E. Howard Foundation Awards. Also, not all the panels are slanted to REH art, so there’ll be plenty of things going on to satisfy your Howard cravings. The Robert E. Howard Days 2010 Information Page will be updated soon, and we’ll keep you posted as we revise it along the way. I wanted to get y’all to be thinking about the warmer days coming, filled with that good REH Fellowship we partake of every year. In the meantime, most of the basic information is still on the ‘09 version (like hotels & such), so check that out. (A heads up: the folks who run the 36 West Motel in Cross Plains asked us this past HD to not contact them until March 1st for reservations, so be sure to mark that on your calendar – don’t everyone call at once!) So start making your plans, check flight info, gather items to send to the Silent Auction and get ready for the Best Two Days in Howard Fandom. I’m looking forward to seeing y’all come to Texas in June!
