"Satan's Playmates: The Adventures of Molloy and McNamara"

Mike Molloy and Tommy McNamara were the "Twin Terrors of the Western Front".
They flew as if they had been born in Spads, they drank like thirsty whales, and they'd fought by each other's side through every mile of air along the lines and in every bar from the Front to Paris. If there were no more pressing targets, they pounded each other to a pulp, for any reason at all, and were strangely happy.

Leading the 24th Pursuit Squadron across WWI Europe's blood red skies, Molloy and McNamara were the bane of the German Air Force. Their names and reputations were known wherever fighting men met with blazing guns or flying fists. Written by William Hartley, the twenty tales of Molloy and McNamara appeared in Dare-Devil Aces between 1936 and 1942. Age of Aces has collected the first eleven of them for this volume.

$16.99, 306 pages, 6x9, Trade Paperback
You can get your copy from Amazon, Mike Chomko Books, and Adventure House.

New this week:
"The Glory Gambler" by Frederick C. Painton from the April 1935 SKY BIRDS featuring The Squadron of the Dead.
The Squadron of the Dead return for another mission, but this one is unlike any they have taken on before.
Death lay behind those men in the somber, black uniforms, for every man in that squadron had been sentenced to die. Death lay ahead of them, for to them were assigned the grim missions no other squadron dared to take. Then at last came a task which even those ghosts of the war skies dreaded to face—yet it was a task in which death played no part.

Writer: Timothy Truman; Artist: Tomás Giorello; Colors: José Villarrubia

Conan, once a wandering thief, tries his luck as a professional warrior, joining Amalric's mercenary forces to live as a rank-and-file soldier. However, something much more than luck will lead Conan on a collision course with the strongest, strangest army he's ever faced! Princess Yasmela—the city of Khoraja's remaining sovereign—has been haunted by terrifying apparitions of the wizard Natohk, and when Natohk threatens to bring his demonic hordes to Khoraja, Yasmela prays to the god Mitra for help. Mitra actually responds and tells her to place the fate of her entire kingdom into the hands of the first man she meets out in the city streets—and that man is a drunk, hesitant barbarian! Conan may turn out to be Khoraja's best hope for survival, but his distrust of the soft upper classes and their disdain for his common station may derail any possibility of working together to halt Natohk's bid for world domination. Timothy Truman adapts Robert E. Howard's powerful "Black Colossus" short story and sets Conan off on what will be his bloodiest battle yet, when the mercenaries of Amalric clash with the massive powers of Natohk!

BRIGANDS OF THE MOON by Ray Cummings
Gregg Haljan was aware that there was a certain danger in having the giant spaceship Planetara stop off at the moon to pick up Grantline's special cargo of moon ore. For that rare metal-invaluable in keeping Earth's technology running-was the target of many greedy eyes. But nevertheless he hadn't figured on the special twist the clever Martian brigands would use. So when he found both the ship and himself suddenly in their hands, he knew that there was only one way in which he could hope to save that cargo and his own secret-that would be by turning space-pirate himself and paying the BRIGANDS OF THE MOON back in their own interplanetary coin.

The REH Foundation Press announced in their latest newsletter that their first publication in 2010 will be THE EARLY ADVENTURES OF EL BORAK, featuring Lal Singh, Yar Ali Khan, and The Sonora Kid. SOLOMON KANE: DEATH'S BLACK RIDERS #3 - Coming in March
Scott Allie (Writer), Mario Guevara (Art), Juan Ferreyra (Colors), and Darick Robertson (Cover)

When you're trapped inside an inn that's been the scene of multiple murders and is now surrounded by a pack of evil, gruesome demons, the last thing you want to find out is that there's something equally gruesome trapped inside with you! Solomon Kane and a frightened priest may not live through the night! One will rely on his guts and guile, while the other will feel that consecrating the building with prayer will be enough to protect them. The Cleft Skull tavern seems to attract the deadliest sort of troubles Germany's Black Forest can offer—and the dangers found within and without the Cleft Skull threaten to destroy our strange hero and his frightened, new companion! Scott Allie (The Devil's Footprints, Exurbia) expands upon Robert E. Howard's classic Solomon Kane tale "Rattle of Bones" and the unfinished "Death's Black Riders" fragment, as Mario Guevara (Lone Ranger and Tonto) and Juan Ferreyra (Rex Mundi, Small Gods) join him to illustrate another horror-tinged adventure.

Known as the "World Wrecker" for his galaxy-smashing space operas of the 1920s and '30s, Edmond Hamilton was born in 1904. Age of Aces - Now available!

Now available from Age of Aces Books

In a tense meeting, Sergius explains how commerce works around the Vilayet Sea and offers that their two imposing forces work together against the Shah. CONAN VOLUME 8: BLACK COLOSSUS - Coming in May!

Doc Wilde - Tim Byrd Reading from the next Doc Wilde adventure!
The Saturday before Christmas (December 19, 2009, from 3-5 pm), Tim Byrd, the author of "Doc Wilde and The Frogs of Doom" will be at Eagle Eye Bookshop in Decatur, GA for a reading/discussion and book signing. Eagle Eye is a fantastic indie bookstore, well known for its author events. Its website and directions can be found at http://www.eagleeyebooks.com.

Tim writes, "It being the Yule, I figured I’d do something special. So instead of just doing a reading from "Doc Wilde and The Frogs of Doom", the first book in the series, I’ll be reading the opening chapters of the second book, "Doc Wilde and The Mad Skull," which will see print a while down the line.

"This will be a rare opportunity to get a peek at a book that’s still being written, prior to any editorial input. First draft pulp, straight from my swashbuckling brain pulp." "Afterward, there’ll be a casual discussion about the book(s) and I’ll be signing "Frogs of Doom". Which is not only a fun pulp adventure tale for kids and adults, but a FANTASTIC holiday gift."

Tim Byrd's Doc Wilde series started in May 2009 with "Doc Wilde and The Frogs of Doom." More books are on the way. For more information, visit http://www.DocWilde.com and Tim's blog at http://www.tim-byrd.com.

Hell Is An Awfully Big City: Spine-Tingling Tales of Horror and Suspense - Now available!
The nine stories in this collection were created with the idea that every writer of Horror, which I consider to be my preferred genre, should create his take on the classic horror themes; the Vampire, the Werewolf, the invading Alien, the Monster. There will always be a place for these iconic horror themes in books, movies, and television shows. These stories have helped me become a more confident writer, primarily by allowing me to accept the fact I'm not a prolific writer; but a man who writes in spurts of creativity (Seven of the collection's stories here were written in two burst of eight and eleven days, respectively) and each tale began with nothing more than a generic idea in a note pad. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them, and I hope, like the first sentence is only designed to force you to read the second sentence; the stories in this collection will force you to read those I create in the future.

The Pulp Rack - New addition!
In the words of Earl Kemp, "Gnome Press was an American small-press publishing company primarily known for publishing many science fiction classics. The publishers intended to specialize in light space opera and whimsical fantasy but ended up publishing blood-and-thunder fantasy and minor works by major names. The company was originally based in Hicksville, New York, and later moved to New York City."  You'll find a link to a history and bibliography of this pulp-related publisher at Earl's excellent online fanzine, eI.

The weird menace pulps might be said to owe a debt to Wilkie Collins' The Woman in White -- along with the Gothic novel -- as what has been described as the first Sensation Novel.

For this reason, we point your attention to The Woman in White 150th Anniversary Project: In the words of the project's site, "One hundred and fifty years after its first publication, The Woman in White is being published once more in its original, weekly parts. For the first time in one and a half centuries readers can enjoy the original text as it was published. And experience the agonising week's wait after each cliff-hanging ending."

You can find out more about the project at The Pulp Rack at this URL:

Age of Aces - Now available!

Now available from Age of Aces Books

Black Dog Books - Coming Soon!

THE SPACE ANNIHILATOR edited by Gene Christie

The Space Annihilator: Early Science Fiction from The Argosy, 1896-1910, collects 16 tales from the first of the many “pulp” magazines that dominated America’s literary landscape in the first half of the twentieth century. Most of the authors are unknown and most of these stories have never been reprinted.

“It’s the force and originality of the ideas that makes these stories important and historic,” comments pulp historian Gene Christie, who edited the collection and contributed an introduction. “More than a hundred years ago, our great-grandparents were actually reading about what we know today as laser beams, the Star Trek ‘transporter,’ cellular telephones and man-made earth satellites. It’s really hidden history, and these mostly obscure authors deserve to be known and credited for their daring and prophetic concepts.”
One of the highlights of The Space Annihilator is the first published story by Gertrude Barrows, whose later work under the pseudonym Francis Stevens was praised by H.P. Lovecraft, A. Merritt and other masters of fantasy. As “Stevens,” Barrows is credited with originating both the alternate universe story and the “dark fantasy” tale.  Other writers include Frank Lillie Pollock, Bertram Lebhar and Howard R. Garis, who created the “Uncle Wiggley” character that entertained generations of small children.

F. Paul Wilson: SECRET CIRCLES - Coming in January!
A Repairman Jack Novel
The suspenseful, thrill-packed sequel to SECRET HISTORIES

Little Cody Bockman disappeared on a rainy morning.

It’s 1983 and fourteen-year-old Jack is back.  He saw the energetic five-year-old Cody riding his bike early on. A few hours later he was gone without a trace—vanished into thin air.  Jack feels guilty.  If he’d followed the kid to make sure he reached home, maybe…

The circus had rolled into town the night before.  Could the carnies be involved?

Or had Cody ridden into the Pines and been carried off by the strange, foul-smelling creature people had recently glimpsed?  Some say it’s the Jersey Devil, others say it’s something real, and dangerous.

Or what about Ernst Drexler, the odd man in the white suit staying to the Lodge?  No one in memory has ever lived at the Lodge.  He says he’s an “actuator” for the Ancient Fraternal Septimus Order that owns the Lodge, but what does that mean?  And why is he here?

And then Jack learns an awful truth about Mr. Vivino, a man running for local office.

Using his nascent fix-it skills, Jack uncovers links to these events and situations…all circling back in one way or another to the mysterious little pyramid he and Weezy found next to the ritually murdered corpse in the Pines…all leading to an edge-of-your-seat finale in one of the lost towns of the Pine Barrens.

James Rollins: ALTAR OF EDEN - Coming December 29th!
Following the fall of Baghdad, two Iraqi boys stumble upon armed men looting the city zoo. The floodgates  have been  opened for the smuggling of hundreds of exotic birds, mammals, and reptiles to Western nations, but this crime hides a deeper secret. Amid a hail of bullets, an underground secret weapons lab is ransacked--and something even more horrific is set free.

Seven years later, Louisiana state veterinarian Lorna Polk stumbles upon a fishing trawler shipwrecked on a barrier island. The crew is missing or dead, but the boat holds a frightening cargo: a caged group of exotic animals, clearly part of a black market smuggling ring.

Yet, something is wrong with these beasts, disturbing deformities that make no sense:  a parrot with no feathers, a pair of Capuchin monkeys conjoined at the hip, a jaguar cub with the dentition of a saber-tooth tiger. They also all share one uncanny trait--a disturbingly heightened intelligence.

To uncover the truth about the origin of this strange cargo and the terrorist threat it poses, Lorna must team up with a man who shares a dark and bloody past with her, now an agent of the U.S. Border Patrol, Jack Menard.

Together, the two must hunt for a beast that escaped the shipwreck while uncovering a mystery tied to fractal science and genetic engineering, all to expose a horrifying secret that traces back to mankinds earliest roots.

But can Lorna stop what is about to be born upon the altar of Eden before it threatens not only the world, but also the very foundation of what it means to be human?

Michael Crichton: PIRATE LATITUDES - Now available!
PIRATE LATITUDES was published posthumously by HarperCollins.  It is an adventure story concerning piracy in Jamaica in the 17th century. The novel was discovered on one of Crichton's computers by his assistant after the author's death, along with another unfinished novel slated to be published in the fall of 2010.

The Caribbean, 1665. A remote colony of the English Crown, the island of Jamaica holds out against the vast supremacy of the Spanish empire. Port Royal, its capital, is a cutthroat town of taverns, grog shops, and bawdy houses.

In this steamy climate there's a living to be made, a living that can end swiftly by disease—or by dagger. For Captain Charles Hunter, gold in Spanish hands is gold for the taking, and the law of the land rests with those ruthless enough to make it.

Word in port is that the galleon El Trinidad, fresh from New Spain, is awaiting repairs in a nearby harbor. Heavily fortified, the impregnable harbor is guarded by the bloodthirsty Cazalla, a favorite commander of the Spanish king himself. With backing from a powerful ally, Hunter assembles a crew of ruffians to infiltrate the enemy outpost and commandeer El Trinidad, along with its fortune in Spanish gold. The raid is as perilous as the bloodiest tales of island legend, and Hunter will lose more than one man before he even sets foot on foreign shores, where dense jungle and the firepower of Spanish infantry stand between him and the treasure. . . .

Pirate Latitudes is Michael Crichton at his best: a rollicking adventure tale pulsing with relentless action, crackling atmosphere, and heart-pounding suspense.

TAM, SON OF THE TIGER by Otis Adelbert Kline
FIRST TIME IN HARDCOVER--THE COMPLETE STORY!
Burma was a land of mystery, of gilded Buddhas and almond-eyed dancing girls, of elephants piling teak, of shaven, yellow-robed priests, smoldering incense, the silver tinkle of temple bells, and the silent ruins of deserted shrines when Major Charles Evans and his family came on a mission that was to end tragically.

Tam Evans was carried away by a white tigress when he was two years old. The son of the white tigress! There was a prophecy about the sone of the white tigress; he would be a great hero who would save the world from a terrible peril that involved the ancient gods of India. A strange and terrible people would emerge from within the earth on a mission of conquest and destruction, under the guidance of Siva, the Destroyer. Could Tam Evans be the youth of the prophecy?

Here is a thrilling novel by the author of The Planet of Peril and The Prince of Peril--the tale of a strange civilization the world had forgotten, and of the destiny that fell upon Tam, son of the Tiger.

THE YEAR WHEN STARDUST FELL by Raymond F. Jones

Mayfield was the typical college town. Nothing too unusual ever happened there until a mysterious comet was suddenly observed by the scientists on College Hill. And then one day the modified engine on Ken Maddox's car began overheating mysteriously. By morning it didn't run at all.

Art's Garage was soon so full of cars that wouldn't run, that Ken's science club began working in the garage after school. It didn't take long for the club to discover that all the moving parts on these stalled cars had fused together. Soon all machinery had stopped in Mayfield.

The copper-yellow glow of the comet seemed to have brought the whole world to a grinding halt. Airplanes, trains, generators and heavy machinery were immobilized. Finally man was left with only a few primitive tools. In the resulting chaos parts of Mayfield were burned and looted by hunger-crazed mobs that stole and killed as they advanced.

Here is science fiction at its thrilling best. A startling and thought-provoking book that shows how human nature might react to catastrophe.

Tantor Media: HORROR STORIES OF ROBERT E. HOWARD - Coming  in February!
By Robert E. Howard; Narrated by Robertson Dean

In this collection of Howard's greatest horror tales, some of the author's best-known characters---Solomon Kane, Bran Mak Morn, and sailor Steve Costigan among them---roam the forbidding locales of Howard's fevered imagination, from the swamps and bayous of the Deep South to the fiend-haunted woods outside Paris to remote jungles in Africa.

Included in this collection is Howard's masterpiece "Pigeons from Hell," a tale of two travelers who stumble upon the ruins of a Southern plantation---and into the maw of its fatal secret. Also included is the classic revenge nightmare "Worms of the Earth" as well as "The Cairn on the Headland."

Age of Aces - Coming soon!

Coming soon from Age of Aces Books

New this week:

“Vultures of the Lost Valley” by Donald E. Keyhoe from the November 1936 FLYING ACES featuring Richard Knight.
Down upon the flood-lit Washington Airport came a sleek Douglas transport. And from it ran a strangely costumed girl wielding a glittering dagger in spirited attempts to protect herself from the burly men who sought to stop her. Only the lightning decision of a tall, well-built man in a car on the driveway saved her. That man was Richard Knight. And this surprising incident was destined to send him upon the most startling adventure of his career—an adventure which, wholly unknown to him, had begun more than half a century before he was born.

In the November 1936 issue of Flying Aces, Donald E. Keyhoe introduced Richard Knight, ace pilot and secret agent for the U.S. government. Along with his dame-chasing assistant Larry Doyle, he confronts evil-doers around  the world, flying his specially equipped (and heavily armed) blue Northrup.

Harold Lamb: Swords from the Sea - Coming in May!
Edited by Howard Andrew Jones with an Introduction by S. M. Stirling

Vikings, pirates, heroes, rogues, and explorers . . . all have heard the siren call of the sea, and master storyteller Harold Lamb chronicled some of their most daring exploits. This single volume contains all of Lamb’s historical seafaring stories, drawn from rare and fragile pulp magazines. Never before collected, these short stories and novels are a treasure trove of adventure. Best known for his stirring tales of Cossacks and crusaders, Lamb was no stranger to swashbuckling, and his sea stories deliver it in buckets.

Sail with John Paul Jones as he fights to save the crippled Russian fleet from the Turks, one eye always alert for the knives of his czarist rivals. Venture across the desert with a lone American on a desperate venture against the Barbary corsairs. Seek the Northeast Passage, beset by ice, storms, and traitors from within, at the side of explorer Ralph Thorne. Ride the whale road with the Vikings, plying their swords from Iceland to Byzantium. Introduced by best-selling author S. M. Stirling, this volume concludes with a rare behind-the-scenes look at Harold Lamb’s writing secrets, penned by the editor who made him famous.

Harold Lamb: Swords from the East - Coming in May!
Edited by Howard Andrew Jones with an Introduction by James Enge

Their conquest was measured not in miles but in degrees of longitude. They smashed the gates of empires, overthrew kingdoms, diverted rivers, and depopulated entire countries. They were the Mongols of Genghis Khan, swift and merciless, but also resourceful, bold, and cunning. Their tale has seldom been told in the West, and never by an author with the acumen of Harold Lamb.

Ride with young Temujin as he outwits schemers and assassins and rises to conquer Asia as Genghis Khan. Venture to the land beneath the northern lights on a mission of vengeance with Maak the Buriat. Stand with Aruk the gatekeeper and Hugo the Frank as they hold the pass against the Sungar hordes. Lamb’s action-packed Mongolian stories, available here in one complete volume, restore the Mongols to their place in history, portraying them not as mindless barbarians but as men of honor and bravery who laid down their lives for their leader and their lands.

Hard Case Crime - Coming in December and beyond!

December 2009
THE CORPSE WORE PASTIES by Jonny Porkpie, Cover art by Ricky Mujica
Usually, when you call a burlesque act a "show stopper," you don’t mean it quite so literally. But this time, that’s just what happened: The show stopped dead, and so did the girl. And as I looked at her nearly naked and completely lifeless body and the bottle of poison in her hand with my fingerprints all over it, I thought to myself: Porkpie, you’re in for it this time...

THE VALLEY OF FEAR by A. C. Doyle, Cover art by Glen Orbik

A sawed-off shotgun blast to the face leaves one man dead—and reveals a secret that has pursued another across an ocean and set the world’s most ruthless criminal on his trail. The man needs the help of a great detective...but could even Sherlock Holmes save him now?

April 2010
MEMORY by Donald E. Westlake, Cover art by Glen Orbik
Hospitalized after a liaison with another man’s wife ends in violence, Paul Cole has just one goal: to rebuild his shattered life. But with his memory damaged, the police hounding him, and no way even to get home, Paul’s facing steep odds—and a bleak fate if he fails...

This final, never-before-published novel by three-time Edgar Award winner Donald E. Westlake is a noir masterpiece, a dark and painful portrait of a man’s struggle against merciless forces that threaten to strip him of his very identity.

June 2010
NOBODY'S ANGEL by Jack Clark, Cover art by Ron Lesser
Eddie Miles is one of a dying breed: a Windy City hack who knows every street and back alley of his beloved city and takes its recent descent into violence personally. But what can one driver do about a killer targeting streetwalkers or another terrorizing cabbies? Precious little—until the night he witnesses one of them in action...

THE GOLDEN ANACONDA: And Other Strange Tales of Adventure
By Elmer Brown Mason
Introduction by John Locke

"The name of Elmer Brown Mason is a talisman that never fails to open the door to weird adventures in weird places with weird animals and men." -- All-Story Weekly

Officially, Elmer Brown Mason was an entomologist for the United States Government, his beat, the swampy backwaters of the South. Privately, he journeyed to the dangerous corners of the world in search of adventure. For a brief but intense period, his experiences inspired thrilling stories of exploration and wonder.

The ten fascinating--and fantastic--stories collected here are set in the Everglades, the Louisiana bayous, the Amazon jungle, Borneo, and other dangerous places known to few people of his era. Included are the five Wandering Smith stories from The Popular Magazine, featuring the South American epic, "The Golden Anaconda." Also included are five tales from All-Story Weekly, topped by the horror-laden two-part saga, "Black Butterflies" and "Red Tree-Frogs." All ten stories were published from 1915 to '16, when the world was much younger than today.

6x9-inch perfect bound; 260 pages, $20.00 postpaid

PULP WINDS - Now available!
PULP WINDS, the long-awaited collecton of short fiction, verse, and Forteana by TGS author Wm. Michael Mott, has been unleashed for mass consumption! With introductions by Walter Bosley, Brad Steiger, and Gerald W. Page, these tales will take you from the antediluvian world to lost cities beneath the earth, onward to other planets around distant stars, and even to the Dark Ages, the Old West and the High Seas. New twists on mythos and madness are intermeshed and presented in these yarns of terror and adventure!

Profusely illustrated, and reminiscent of pulp fiction and verse of a bygone era, PULP WINDS is a literary adventure of a type scarcely seen today! These literary gems are not in the modern vein of politically correct, emasculated tales of slow pace and boring introspection so common today, but are fast-paced, pulse-pounding accounts of action, horror, love, hate and gore! Presented in a large-format for easier reading and for viewing of the artwork, the design is reminiscent of the pulp magazines of an earlier, bygone era.

Those of you familiar with Mott's non-fiction Fortean research will find familiar themes from the realms of the unknown interwoven into, through, and beneath these stories, like the currents of a deep black subterranean river of mystery, glimpsed and occasionally revealed in all its weirdness and terror, before plunging beneath the surface again. Also included is an article on Fortean matters along the lines of the research presented in Caverns, Cauldrons, and Concealed Creatures, Mott's definitive non-fiction opus on high strangeness, hidden beings, and real-life mysteries. Some of the stories and poems in Pulp Winds have also appeared in Lost Continent Library Magazine, Planetary Stories, and elsewhere, but have never been gathered together into a single collection before now.

If the reader finds occasional hints of the Apocrypha, the Pseudepigrapha, the Book of Skelos, the Eltdown Shards, the Necronomicon, and yes, even the mad musings of the Shaver Mystery in these tales... It is no mere happenstance!

BLOOD AND THUNDER has returned to the literary realm. PULP WINDS will satisfy your cravings for fast-paced, haunting adventures across time and space! Click on the cover art at mottimorphic.com to order your copy now!

Robert E. Howard - Feature films in the works!
IGN Movies recently chatted with Paradox Entertainment president and CEO Fredrik Malmberg about the many film projects his production company has in-development, including Conan the Barbarian and Kull the Conqueror.

Paradox Entertainment develops and licenses mainly character-based properties, including the stories and characters of the late author Robert E. Howard. Their next movie will be Conan the Barbarian, which has been in full casting mode for the last month. We were told that rumors that Conan will be a teen for most of the story are untrue. No final casting decisions have been made or announced yet. Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th, Pathfinder) directs.

Another Howard character coming back to the big screen is Kull the Conqueror. Malmberg said Ninja Assassin screenwriter Matthew Sand has penned the script. Malmberg will produce Kull along with Denise Di Novi (Catwoman, Jetsons, The Nightmare Before Christmas). Sand recently spoke about the project to Comic Book Resources: "I did a screenplay for Kull, and while we were developing the screenplay, they did a great comic book. It was fun to see my interpretation of the Robert E. Howard literature go one way and the comic going another way. They were interesting bookends on what Howard did. But I love the comic book, and it couldn't be more different from what I wrote."

In addition to Kull and Conan, Paradox is also in various stages of development on film adaptations of other Howard-created properties. Vultures is based on Howard's 1936 western story The Vultures of Wahpeton, and was adapted by screenwriter Michael Tabb (The Black Knight, The Uncatchable Cowgirl Bandits of Nottingham, Texas).

Paradox is also in discussions with an unspecified writer-director to take on Dark Agnes, based on the trio of posthumously published stories about a sword-wielding, fiery redhead in the 16th century. Denise Di Novi is also producing Dark Agnes.

Although Paradox controls the rights to the stories and characters of Robert E. Howard, Thulsa Doom is not among the films on their development slate. "We licensed Thulsa Doom to a third party so it is not under my control and I have heard nothing recently, but I think Djimon [Hounsou] has been attached to it for some time," Malmberg said.

Paradox is developing other movies beyond just screen adaptations of Howard's works. One such project is Chariots of the Gods, which will be based not only on Erich von Daniken's classic 1968 book Chariots of the Gods?: Unsolved Mysteries of the Past but also his subsequent research. Mark Ordesky, who was the New Line Cinema exec who oversaw the Lord of the Rings trilogy, is also producing. Chariots of the Gods promotes the theory that aliens visited earth in the past and gave advanced technology to ancient civilizations, who in turn worshiped the aliens as gods.

Paradox, along with Lawrence Abramson and George Furla, is also producing the long-awaited big screen return of sci-fi icon Buck Rogers. Frank Miller, who was previously attached to direct an earlier incarnation developed by different producers, is no longer involved.

Since mankind crept out of the caves, violence and injustice has been a common thread. And since those early times, the most harmed have called out for justice. For those most harmed, most in need, a strange object offers hope. Made from the skin of its first owner, the Skullmask provides its wearer with the knowledge, skill, speed, and intelligence of the countless others who have called on its power. But the Skullmask demands its price, and the Skullmask only appears when all else fails, and in those horrible cases where Revenge and Justice are one. WEIRD TALES OF THE SKULLMASK follows the Skullmask from a western town where rich ranchers terrorize farmers and their Mexican-born workers, on to a Caribbean island where Voodoo Loa and zombies hold sway, then to the city-room of a major newspaper where a reporter faces off against the German-American Bund, and finally to a post-WWII drug smuggling operation. In each case, ordinary justice has failed...but the Skullmask offers hope. Author Teel James Glenn writes a fast-paced action fantasy with deep homage to the pulp fiction classics of the 30s and 40s. Like other stories from this era (The Shadow, Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan), SKULLMASK combines detecting with magic. The settings, too, (western, exotic tropical islands, and inner-city gang hangouts) reflect the golden age of pulp fiction. WEIRD TALES OF THE SKULLMASK makes for a fun and exciting read.
