CHRONICLES OF CONAN VOLUME 6:  - Available in comic shops December 1st!
THE CURSE OF THE GOLDEN SKULL AND OTHER STORIES
ROY THOMAS (W), JOHN BUSCEMA (A), and NEAL ADAMS (A)

In the eight decades that have passed since prolific pulp writer Robert E. Howard created his seminal Sword and Sorcery adventurer, Conan, many other scribes have tried to recreate the passion and energy Howard infused into his stories.  Few have come as close as comics writer Roy Thomas did during his long and influential run on Marvel's monthly Conan the Barbarian series back in the 1970s. Collaborating with the most acclaimed and talented artists of the time, Thomas wove a narrative tapestry of action, intrigue, and heroism that's as powerful today as it was when it was published nearly 30 years ago.

Featuring completely remastered color and text corrections, these stories have been unavailable in color since their original publication.  Soft Cover, 160 pages, Full Color, 7" x 10", $15.95
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics

Clive Cussler - BLACK WIND will be available November 30th!
In December 1944, Captain Miyoshi Horinouchi, staff operations officer of the Japanese Imperial Navy Sixth Fleet, informs Lieutenant Commander Ogawa of Submarine I-403 of a change of assignment. Instead of patrolling the Philippines, he is to "escort' a special guest from the Kure Naval Base in Japan to the "enemy's doorsteps". The civilian Dr. Jisaichi Tanaka of the Army Medical College has found a devastating biological agent that will bring the Americans to their knees begging for peace. If he fails on this mission, Japan will inevitably lose the war as the Battle of the Pacific is all but over since the recent fleet devastation at the Battle of Leyte Gulf. However neither this sub nor a companion ever made it to its intended target.

In 2007 a South Korean knows where the subs sank and has plans for uniting his country by distracting the Americans with the launching of the deadly biological cargo on Los Angeles. Only Dirk Pitt Sr. and his adult children Jr. and Summer along with his crew from the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA) stand in the way of success.

From Publishers Weekly:
About halfway through this rip-snorting adventure thriller, a "white-haired man" rescues heroes Dirk Pitt Jr. and his sister, Summer, from death by drowning. That man is revealed to be author Cussler (Trojan Odyssey, etc.), reminding Dirk of "an older version of his own father," legendary oceanographer Dirk Pitt, hero of Cussler's previous novels. Just as the primary action baton is passed in this tale from Pitt Sr. to Jr., readers may note that Cussler's coauthor is his own son. But even if Cussler is beginning to pass on his writing baton, he's doing so with panache: thriller fans will revel in this action-packed yarn of land- and sea-based derring-do stuffed with technical details on matters from biochemical weapons "chimeras" to rocket launches. The villain is a South Korean industrialist working for the North Koreans with an eye toward unifying Korea by ridding the country of American troops, allowing for an invasion of the South. His plan is to aim a sea-borne rocket filled with a combo of deadly viruses at Los Angeles, with clues laying blame on Japanese terrorists, thus distracting America while the North makes its move. But villain and modus operandi matter less than the series of exciting hairbreadth escapes wrought by Dirks Jr. and Sr. and Summer—including Dirk Sr.'s escape from being poached alive in a minisub trapped underneath massive rocket boosters spewing an inferno of flames. There's a slight, nasty gloss of "yellow peril" on the villain and his actions, and it's only the Americans who greet likely death with a grin and a quip, but that's a minor knock on some major entertainment that's bound toward the top of the charts.

COMPLIMENTS OF THE DOMINO LADY
Bold Venture Press edition:
COMPLIMENTS OF THE DOMINO LADY
is at the printer.  Steranko is tweeking the cover reproduction a bit.
According to Rich Harvey, it will definitely be out this year.

The Domino Lady was among the original "pulp vixens" in the 1930s. The magazine covers that featured her, painted by Norman Saunders, have been reproduced numerous times in journals and coffee table books. She has been
the star of a comic book series from Eros Comics, and her stories have appeared in scattered fanzines over the last decade.     Until now, no one has attempted to collect her adventures in one volume. Bold Venture Press is changing that, this summer -- Her adventures are targeted in a new collection, COMPLIMENTS OF THE DOMINO LADY, with startling new artwork by legendary illustrator STERANKO.

Publisher Rich Harvey, eager to produce a definitive collection of her adventures, enlisted legendary illustrator Jim Steranko for the cover painting. If pulp collectors thought they had seen the definitive Domino Lady, then Steranko would challenge the status quo. Comic fans who remember his legendary stint on Marvel Comics' NICK FURY, AGENT OF S.H.I.E.L.D. expect no less. Steranko's portfolio is a virtual Who's Who of pulp heroes, the most famous being THE SHADOW, of whom he created thirty definitive images for paperbacks.

"We'll revive the Domino Lady in the beauty and style with which she was created," Steranko says. "When I accepted the assignment, I already had most of the image composed on the canvas of my imagination: dangerous, elegant, mysterious--and sexy! She's the quintessential '30s pulp vixen, a masked manhunter in a noir deco world, right out of a Warner Bros. thriller."

Steranko took a few "liberties" with her costume, exposing more cleavage and slitting her distinctive white dress higher up her thigh.     "The Domino Lady stories have a Warner Bros. feel to them," Steranko says. "I made her a bit more RKO." He's referring, of course, to the studio that produced noir classics such as "Meet John Doe" and "Citizen Kane", and many others.
Steranko has established his credentials as the premiere pulp artist of the second half of the 20th Century. Once you see the cover painting to COMPLIMENTS OF THE DOMINO LADY, and the startling new title page illustrations, you'll agree that Steranko is now the premiere pulp artist of the 21st Century.

Stories Include:
1) "The Domino Lady Collects"
2) "The Domino Lady Doubles Back"
3) "Emeralds Aboard"
4) "The Domino Lady's Handicap"
5) "Black Legion"
6) "The Domino Lady's Double"

Girasol Collectables - December Pulp Replicas!
Girasol Collectables is pleased to announce three more issues in its ongoing series of Pulp Replicas.
Click here or on the images to the right for a look at larger Pulp Replica cover images.

With our December offerings, Girasol Collectables would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday for you and your families. We are announcing the Replicas a little early as we've found it safer to avoid the mails during the peak holiday period. We will only be shipping up until mid-December (10th), but we'll resume with any unshipped orders first
thing in the New Year. Order early to get that holiday reading material in time!  We will also offer our usual discount, buy all three of this month's Replicas and pay only $85 Vs the actual total of $95.

We lead off the month with a new title, SAUCY MOVIE TALES.
A tough and expensive book to find in original pulp form. We are pleased to present December 1935, issue #1 (although technically #3 due to title tomfoolery).  This should keep you Spicy fans occupied until next month.
Terrific Saunders cover, spicier than the Spicy's! First of several coming, $25 each postpaid.

Our second Replica is THE SPIDER  #8 (May 1934).  The title is The Mad Horde, somehow appropriate for holiday season shopping I think. More great mayhem Spider style, $35 each postpaid.

Our third Replica for December is WEIRD TALES #4 (June 1923). Another incredibly rare bedsheet issue.
This will let those of you who bought #5 a chance to complete the 2-parter The Evening Wolves with the first half here.

In keeping with their all-over-the-map production, this issue is actually slightly larger than the other bedsheets, and is 120 pages instead of the usual 96.  $35 each postpaid.

New Year's teaser! We'll be adding the first issues of Operator 5 to the 2005 lineup, with #1 coming out in January. We'll have 4 Operator 5's and 8 Spiders as one 'line', with more of the usual great stuff coming. Just a few hints: WEIRD TALES #8 November 1923! WEIRD TALES July 1925, with Robert E. Howard's first story Spear and Fang! GOLDEN FLEECE #1! More SAUCY MOVIE TALES. SPICY ADVENTURE #2 (#1 after the ashcan). SPICY DETECTIVE #1. SPICY WESTERN #1.

Plus, we've acquired a HUGE book collection which we'll be bringing out over the next while.
Catalogue 11 ready now... send for your free catalogue today!

As always, these reprints are exact copies including the illustrations, ads and back-up stories and have been printed on off-white paper, staple-bound and finished off with a high quality reproduction of the original cover.
The only thing missing is the smell (alas) and the flaking newsprint.

Congratulations John! Due to the exceptional amount of interest this title is arousing, we have taken the unprecedented (for us) step of placing excerpts from the book on our homepage. Drop by and sample the arcane, lyrical works of Samuel Loveman! Looking into the future, we hope eventually to release a volume of the letters sent between Clark Ashton Smith and Loveman.

Only a few copies remain of the first printings of H. P. Lovecraft's THE ANNOTATED SUPERNATURAL HORROR IN LITERATURE and THE BLACK DIAMONDS by Clark Ashton Smith. Second printings will appear early in 2005, and yes, the second printing of THE BLACK DIAMONDS will include the "missing pages." These pages are also available as a free download at the Hippocampus website.

COLLECTED ESSAYS, VOLUME 3: SCIENCE
By H. P. Lovecraft
Edited by S. T. Joshi
May 2005
Cloth: ISBN 0-9748789-7-9: $40.00
Paper: ISBN 0-9748789-8-7: $20.00
A self-proclaimed "mechanistic materialist," Lovecraft took an unremittingly scientific view of reality. This perspective informed the whole of his literary output, but is nowhere so clearly seen as in this assemblage of his writings on science. Beginning with the scientific journals, treatises and astronomy columns of HPL's early years, and continuing throughout his life, these writings illuminate Lovecraft's thought in a unique, and until now, largely unappreciated way. As a bonus, almost two-dozen of HPL's hand lettered star maps are reproduced.

COLLECTED ESSAYS, VOLUME 4: TRAVEL
By H. P. Lovecraft
Edited by S. T. Joshi
May 2005
Cloth: ISBN 0-9761592-0-1: $40.00
Paper: ISBN 0-9761592-1-X: $20.00
Far from being a recluse, H. P. Lovecraft traveled widely, and wrote at length about these expeditions. Collected here are all HPL's formal travelogues, including "Vermont—A First Impression" (1927), "Observations on Several Parts of America" (1928), and "An Account of a Visit to Charleston" (1930). Also included is A Description of the Town of Quebeck, in New France, Lately Added to His Britannick Majesty's Dominions, which, at 75,000 words, was Lovecraft's longest work. As a bonus, all of Lovecraft's hand-drawn maps and illustrations of the regions he visited are reproduced.

In 2006, Hippocampus will make the leap into Howardian studies with a centennial tribute to Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan the Cimmerian, Kull of Atlantis, Solomon Kane and a host of other memorable characters. Ben Szumskyj will edit this book, which is yet to be titled.

Midnight House
A collection of stories by G. G. Pendarves, mainly drawn from the pages of WEIRD TALES, will be published by Midnight House.

Midnight House - Horrible Imaginings by Fritz Leiber!
HORRIBLE IMAGININGS, the new Fritz Leiber collection, is now back from the printers.
Midnight House is planning to package orders over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Midnight House is pleased to announce a new collection of tales by the legendary Fritz Leiber. Considered by many to be the greatest writer in the field of fantastic fiction, Fritz Leiber's long and productive career spanned fifty years. This present collection assembles stories from sources ranging from 1940s issues of WEIRD TALES to rare fanzines like AMRA and WHISPERS. As a special treat, this book includes a "lost" story, "Skinny's Wonderful", apparently written for ESQUIRE or PLAYBOY which was recently discovered in the author's papers. Most of the stories gathered here are making their first appearance in book form or have been virtually unobtainable for many years. Fritz Leiber was the winner of every major award for science fiction, fantasy, and horror during his career. While many of his novels remain in print, much of his great short fiction has been virtually unobtainable for decades. This is the third of a series of volumes dedicated to preserving all of Fritz Leiber's weird and macabre tales under the Midnight House imprint as a companion set to the volumes of science fiction published by Darkside Press.

Midnight House is dedicated to the preservation of classic horror and weird fiction in handsome, inexpensive editions. Printings are limited to 500 numbered, casebound copies with sewn signatures. Horrible Imaginings features a striking cover by noted artist Allen Koszowski and will be ready for shipping in September of this year.
All previous Leiber collections have sold out on publication and advance orders are strongly recommend.

Casebound - $45.00

Orders can be placed on the Midnight House website at http://www.darksidepress.com/leiberhorrible.html.

Serenity - Firefly film rescheduled!
Joss Whedon's Firefly film, Serenity, has been pushed back from April to September 2005.  News of the delay was first blogged by Joss himself on his WHEDONesque website.  Apparently April got crowded with a lot of titles aimed at a similar demographic, and the studio decided September was a clearer corridor for the film to make the kind of impact it should. According to Whedon, "This isn't about a lack of confidence in the film – in fact, they told me this before they even saw it. And now they have seen it, and unless they're way better liars than I'm used to, they dug it. Actually, they dug it pretty large, which is a good sign since there's not a single finished effect in the film."

Written and directed by Whedon and produced by Barry Mendel, Serenity features the majority of the show's cast reprising their roles for the feature: Nathan Fillion as Mal, Gina Torres as Zoe, Adam Baldwin as Jayne, Alan Tudyk as Wash, Jewel Staite as Kaylee, Morena Baccarin as Inara, Summer Glau as River, Sean Maher as Simon and Ron Glass as Book. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays The Operative and Shohreh Aghdashloo (the Oscar-nominated actress from House of Sand and Fog) makes a brief appearance.

The Stories of Clifford D. Simak: Volume One: Eternity Lost & Other Stories
Clifford D. Simak produced over 140 short stories during his long and illustrious career. Until now, there has never been an attempt to collect his entire output in book form. Darkside Press is pleased to announce the first in a project twelve-volume series which will at long last gather all of the short fiction of Clifford D. Simak into book form. Editor Phil Stephenson-Payne has painstakingly assembled twelve volumes with an eye toward each book serving as an overview of the great author's output. Each volume will contain approximately 125,000 words and feature a mix of the well-known and the obscure. Each volume will feature a guest introduction by a well-known author in the genre and each volume is strictly limited to 500 copies (as are all of our Darkside Press titles). Volume one is planned for an early summer release (just prior to the centenary anniversary of the author's birth).

Obviously this project will take several years for completion as these titles will be interspersed with the other Darkside Press releases. For those wishing to support this project and guard against possible price increases, we are offering a subscription plan. $400.00 will guarantee a full set of matching numbered volumes. You get two books free and a matched set! For payment instructions e-mail jpelan@cnw.com.

Eternity Lost & Other Stories will be available at $40.00 the copy.

ARTS UNKNOWN: THE LIFE AND ART OF LEE BROWN COYE - Now available!
ARTS UNKNOWN: THE LIFE AND ART OF LEE BROWN COYE by Luis Ortiz is now available!
Price: $39.95; 176 pages; Hardcover
ISBN: 1-933065-04-4

The first bio and art retrospective of one of the defining pulp artists of the 20th century

Lee Brown Coye was one of art's "almost men"--not a loser, but never quite a winner. Bad luck haunted much of his career. He began his life as an artist on the eve of the Great Depression and was forced to labor as a malcontented advertising agency art director through much of the 1930s. Coye was ready to make a breakthrough when he began to appear in the Whitney Museum's annual exhibitions and had a watercolor brought by the Metropolitan Museum for its permanent collection--then Pearl Harbor was attacked.

The arrival of abstractionists fleeing war-torn Europe forced American artists working in a realistic style, like Coye, to the periphery of the art world. While Coye dabbled in abstract paintings, and later worked as a medical artist and cartoonist, he always considered himself primary an illustrator. In periodicals such as Weird Tales and Amazing Stories, Coye's uniquely macabre and original art found the perfect home. Illustrating horror stories matched Coye's anatomy lessons with his macabre sensibilities. At this time his studios were gothic abodes filled with skeletons, dead animals, live rats, and human body parts from a medical college - all models for his art. Some of his best work was done for pulp magazines and Arkham House works by H.P. Lovecraft.

In author Luis Ortiz' words, "Coye was an art machine and an American Original. As a child he was considered a 'holy
terror'. As an adult, after a hard day of doing medical illustrations, he thought nothing of walking into a bar carrying a decapitated human head under his arm, placing it on the counter and buying his guillotined 'friend' a drink. On another occasion he 'borrowed' the finger-bone of a saint (a holy relic he was building a reliquary for) from the Catholic Church in his hometown of Syracuse, New York. The Syracuse diocese was beside itself and had to send clergy to perform a blessing on Coye's studio since the relic could only travel to holy places."

Ortiz adds, "Coye's horror illustrations are not like anything done before-or since. You would have to go back to Goya's black paintings to find anything comparable. Yet despite the darkness, Coye's art was always filled with traces of humor."

Parts of The Blair Witch Project film may have been based on a true life incident that occurred to Coye as a young man when he discovered a strange, isolated farmhouse in the backwoods of upstate New York. The house was surrounded by bizarre constructs of lashed-together sticks and had an unusual tenant. The unexplained display seemed to allude to some dark nature, and stayed with Coye the rest of his life. Later on, sticks would become a recurring motif in his illustrations. Horror writer Karl Wagner transmogrified the incident into an award winning story, "Sticks", which may have influenced the makers of Blair Witch.

ARTS UNKNOWN; THE LIFE AND ART OF LEE BROWN COYE weaves together biography, the mid 20th-century fractured schools of American fine art and commercial arts, and New York history, as well as offering fascinating insights into a one-of-a-kind artist. The author has interviewed many of Coye's relatives and friends, and was allowed complete access to the artist's personal archives, including diaries and letters. As the first book on the Coye, ARTS UNKNOWN is significant in bringing to light this extraordinary, eccentric man and his art.

Featuring over 350 pieces of art by Coye, including many never before published.

Flash Gordon
Stephen Sommers's business partner, Bob Ducsay, is talking about where he sees the proposed new big screen version of "Flash Gordon" is going and he stated to Now Playing Magazine  that it is definitely not being approached in the tongue in cheek way the previous film version was:

"We're in the process of developing it. It in fact is actually going back to a lot more of the original source material for Flash and is not based on the 1980 movie. And tonally, as sort of broad entertainments as the films we make are, clearly we haven't ever worked at that level of camp. So we're not moving in that direction at all. There's all kinds of material. There's comics. There's serials. So all of those things provide source material."

Will Sommers helm it? "[Stephen] is not committed to directing. What really happens is he comes across a screenplay, or he writes a screenplay, that he's interested in. And it really always comes down to the script, and since these things are works in progress it's really hard to say. For him as a director, I don't think he's really settled on what it is that he's going to do next."

James Bond 21
Citing a "top industry source," Moviehole reports that Eon Productions is only considering "one" actor for the role of 007 in the next James Bond film. That thesp is Ioan Gruffudd, soon to be seen as Mr. Fantastic in the Fantastic Four movie. Gruffudd's credits include King Arthur and the Horatio Hornblower telepics.  Moviehole claims that "others may float into the mix, but at the moment, he's the only guy that EON are seriously considering for the role." Gruffudd was first mentioned as a Bond contender way back in 2000.

GoldenEye director Martin Campbell will helm Bond 21 from a screenplay by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, which reportedly contains "more of the elements of earlier Bond pics than the more recent effects-packed pictures."

CHRONICLES OF CONAN VOLUME 7: THE DWELLER IN THE POOL AND OTHER STORIES TPB
ROY THOMAS (W) and JOHN BUSCEMA (A)

Throughout his adventures across the mythic Hyperborean world, the barbarian called Conan crosses swords with many colorful and dangerous characters, somehow always finding himself on the wrong end of a wizard's wrath, or staring down the hungry jaws of a nightmarish beast. Proving himself more than a match for whatever comes his way, Conan has become one of the most enduring and strangely endearing characters in all of popular culture. The stories in this edition feature more tales of thrilling adventure and chilling betrayal as only writer Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema could deliver.

On sale March 30, Soft Cover, 160 pages, Full Color, 7"x 10", $15.95
CHRONICLES OF CONAN VOLUME 7 will be solicited in the December PREVIEWS (available November 24th).

544 pages  for $27.95

LEGEND - Coming in February!
LEGEND is a new comic coming from Wildstorm.  It is written by Howard Chaykin and illustrated by the legendary Russ Heath. The four-issue miniseries is inspired by Philip Wylie’s GLADIATOR, the project tells the story of Hugo Danner, a man blessed with super-powers but cursed with all too-human failings.

First published in 1930, Wylie’s pulp novel about a father who scientifically enhances his son’s abilities to superhuman status was, for lack of a better term, a grim and gritty look at ‘the superman,’ and what would happen if he were to walk among us.

Chaykin says "I moved the timeline of the book up from 1900 to 1950, and that was really, the only major adjustment I made."  For more on this upcoming series, click here.

The Burroughs Cyclopædia - Characters, Places, Fauna, Flora, Technologies, Languages, Ideas and Terminologies Found in the Works of Edgar Rice Burroughs by  Clark A. Brady

Edgar Rice Burroughs was not satisfied with creating characters and events within the world that we know; instead he created whole new worlds for histories, and he filled them with peoples, languages, cities, wars, plants, machines, and monsters that were believable to the reader, yet still alien and fantastic enough to thrill and delight.

From A-Kor, the keeper of the Towers of Jetan in Manator, through Zytheb, one of the priests of Brulor in Ashair, this is a comprehensive reference to the fantastic worlds of Burroughs. Each entry provides a complete definition, along with a reference to the book in which the entry appeared. For terms, the language, either actual (e.g., Latin and French) or Burroughs-created (e.g., The Tongue of the Great Ape or Pal-ul-don), from which it was derived is given

Pirates of the Caribbean - Sequel news!
Last we heard, the second and third films were set to shoot back-to-back later this year.  Latino Review recently spoke with producer extraordinaire Jerry Bruckheimer who talked briefly about the forthcoming flicks.  Bruckheimer says he's still hoping to make the sequels consecutively. "We'd like to. If Disney will write a check, we'll do it," he says.  "We hope that we can do it as well as Lord of the Rings did it. That's what you shoot for. You only learn through making mistakes, so we'll watch what Back to the Future did and Matrix did and hopefully not repeat what they did."

Bruckheimer says the oft-rumored subtitle for the second film, Treasures of the Lost Abyss, isn't accurate. He has a subtitle, but he isn't telling just yet.  The three principle cast members, Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, are returning and rumor has it that Keith Richards may be joining the cast as Jack Sparrow's father. Regarding Richards, Bruckheimer cautions, "We don't have him yet."  Another, much lovelier, face that may be added to the sequel is Salma Hayek. A source for IESB says the actress is up for a role in the film, but does not reveal further details.

Production on the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel (or sequels, should back-to-back productions get approved) is set to begin early next year.

SCIENCE FICTION, FANTASY AND WEIRD FICTION (1890-2004)
by STEPHEN T. MILLER and WILLIAM G. CONTENTO

This is the most comprehensive index ever published of contributions to magazines in the field of fantastic literature (speculative fiction including science fiction, fantasy and weird fiction). "It is so comprehensive that it cannot be surpassed, it can only be supplemented," writes Sam Moskowitz in his Foreword to this "fabulous guide."

"Few fields have been more remarkably indexed than science fiction and fantasy," he adds. "This compendium, of course, updates all previous such bibliographies, and prints complete contents in chronological order as well as by author and title. But where it stands utterly unique is, in addition, recording the contents of perhaps hundreds of semi-professional and amateur publications which carried an important regimen of fantasy fiction."

This mammoth index - actually, there are five separate indexes - Author, Title, Artist, Series and Contents - is being issued as a set of eight volumes. Indexed are contributions to 1,120 different magazine titles, a total of 15,818 separate issues, with contributions by 25,911 writers. Indexed are 103,171 stories and serial segments, 20,463 poems, and 39,939 articles and columns.

Here is a bird's-eye view of this mammoth undertaking:

* Each volume measures 8.5" x 11" and is red, white or blue buckram with gold leaf lettering
* Each page is double- or triple-columned and highly readable
* Set of 8 volumes, to a total of 3950 pages
* Total number of words: 4.1 million
* Author Index: Volumes 1, 2 and 3 (red buckram)
* Title, Artist & Serial Indexes: Volumes 4 and 5 (white buckram)
* Content Index: Volumes 6, 7 and 8 (blue buckram)
* 276 page Checklist of SF Magazine Index available as paperback edition.
"In all of science fiction history there is nothing like this index," co-compiler Stephen T. Miller explains in his Preface.
"You will find magazines here that can be found no place else. We give you data on magazines that were never published
but that were assembled. We cover the rarest of the rare and the obscurest of the obscure. Ashcan issues do exist and are
indexed here. Important rare fanzines are listed. It's all here."
The publication of this set of indexes is a landmark occasion.
Its appearance marks a milestone in the scholarship and bibliography of science fiction, fantasy, and weird fiction.

BLOOD 'N' THUNDER #8 - Now available!
Issue #8, dated Fall 2004, is an extensive tribute to prolific pulpster and novelist Frederick C. Davis, who wrote the adventures of such popular characters as Operator #5 and the Moon Man, plus hundreds of other stories in the detective/mystery, aviation, Western, and weird-menace genres. The issue begins with an overview of the author's career by Davis scholar Garyn Roberts, who co-edited THE NIGHT NEMESIS, a 1985 collection of Moon Man stories plus the newly released THE COMPLEAT ADVENTURES OF THE MOON MAN. For a look at Davis, the man, there will be a lengthy interview with his son, Rick Davis, and granddaughter, Karen Cunningham. They provide valuable insights into FCD's personality, work habits, and influences. Davis himself reveals some of his writing secrets in an article reprinted from a 1941 issue of WRITER'S DIGEST. Finally, what is believed to be a complete Davis bibliography, listing many hundreds of pulp stories as well as several dozen hardcover novels and non-fiction magazine appearances, will also appear. The Davis tribute is illustrated with candid photos of the author, B&W illustrations that accompanied his pulp stories, and a plethora of pulp covers from issues containing FCD yarns. Filling out the issue will be Rodney Schroeter's in-depth report on this year's Windy City Pulp and Paperback Show, including comments by 2004 Guest-of-Honor and legendary science-fiction author and editor, Frederik Pohl.

Doc Savage Movie Rumor
According to Moviehole, if rumors are correct, Arnold Schwarzenegger still has a fighting chance to come back big time with John Milius' KING CONAN and the huge epic JAMES CAMERON action film Tom Arnold talked about a month ago -a new film Cameron is writing for Arnold.   That big epic film Jim Cameron is writing for Arnold might just be the long-planned "Doc Savage".   'Gordon' told Moviehole  that it is something Jim Cameron might do, if even in a few years time - as something he and his "Terminator" pal, Anhuld, can re-team on.

"This project has been in limbo since 1999 when first announced and Cameron see's this as a franchise for his governor pal to headline in his older years. Think the ultimate older action hero over 60! Previous director Charles Russell (The Mask & Eraser) is no longer attached", he tells. "James Cameron will re-write Frank Darabonts amazing first draft and update the script to fit Arnold more".
