Predominantly a reprint magazine of the worlds best short stories, much in the style of the US Golden Book, in later years it frequently published new fiction, notably Biancas Hands by Theodore Sturgeon.
Title changed from The Argosy. Title is Argosy of Complete Stories on front cover and contents page, but just Argosy on spine. Printed in England by Allied Newspapers Ltd., Manchester and published on the 7th of each month by The Amalgamated Press Ltd., The Fleetway House, Farringdon Street, London, E.C.4. Cover has large faint silhouette of ship in background, with small darker silhouette of ship in foreground, in two different colours, together with list of author names. On the first issue seen (5/40) the caption at the bottom reads Enjoy the Good Company of the Worlds Greatest Writers; on later issues this just lists the featured story.
