Subject:  Pulp Magazines
Title:  3 AIR WONDER STORIES, V. 1 #1 & #3, V. 2 #1
Description:  Item Specifics - Magazine Back Issues Issue Type: Monthly Issue Subject: Pulps Month: -- Publication Name: -- Publication Year: 1929 Language: English Air Wonder Stories are beautiful, larger sized (8 1/2" x 11 1/2") good quality pulps published by Stellar Publishing Co. with Hugo Gernsback as the editor-in chief. The covers are by Paul, top science fiction artist of the time. Each is full of great vintage science fiction and aviation writers with articles such as "What is your aviation knowledge?" This auction offers 3 very early publications, all in similar good condition. Individual flaws will be mentione with the issue. Vol. 1 #1 (July 1929) featured Lowell H. Morrow and starts the series "The Ark of the Covenant" by Victor MacClure. There is a fold line down the middle of the front cover, but it lays flat. Very small fold in lower right corner. The back cover has slight worn out areas under 1/4" along the bottom of the outer edge. There is slight separation of the back cover down 3" from the top of the spine. Vol. 1 #3 (September 1929) featured aviation stories by Bob Olson, Harl Vincent, and Lowell Howard Morrow. There is a hardly noticeable fold line diagonally along the top right hand corner, 6 1/2" long, 2" deep at the outer edge. Vol. 2 #1 (June 1930) featured Captain S. P. Meek, George Paul Bauer, Walter Kateley, and Henrik Dahl Juve. The front cover has tiny (under 1/4") wear/tear along the bottom edge and the top right corner is missing about 1/8". The back cover, lower left corner, has small missing section about 1/4" deep and under 1" long, plus there is a slight separation from the top of the spine down 2". All 3 of these issues really are in good condition considering their age and that they are pulps. The illustrations, stories, articles, authors, etc. etc. are fabulous and are wonderful primary source material for any researcher. These are very collectible and nice issues. Auction Evaluations
Pulp Trader has a program which evaluates auction titles and descriptions, deciding what books and magazine issues are being offered. Listed below are its evaluations, shown as 1% to 99%. Naturally, this can never be as good as human judgement.

As a member, you can correct the stupid computer program. To change an existing evaluation, click on the Up or Down icon to its left. Up will raise the evaluation to 100% certainty. Down will lower it to 0%, meaning this auction is definitely not for that book.

To create a new evaluation, enter a Book ID# in the box above and press the Create button. You will then be shown the book data, and asked to verify the new evaluation. You must get the Book Key from a Book TOC page, or a Magazine Issue page.

After giving thumbs down to a few evaluations, or changing the item count, you can tell the program to re-evaluate by pressing the Re-Evaluate button. The program will re-evaluate the auction in a few minutes. All evaluations that are not 0 or 100 may change.

You can also set the exact number of Magazines and Books for auction. The Evaluation program sometimes gets this very wrong, especially when people mention their other auctions in the Description. When either field is blank, the Evaluation program uses its best guess as to how many items are for auction. You can set this to Zero, telling the program not to evaluate this auction. Or you can set it to some positive whole number to limit the number of evaluations.

At present, we do not evaluate auctions for books, so that field is not used. We will need it in the near future. The best way to use these fields is when an the program gives way too many evaluations. Just tell it how many items of each type are really for auction.
