English traveller, writer, big-game hunter, East African policeman; foreign correspondent for Theodore Roosevelt’s African safari. Foran was resident in Kenya as Assistant District Superintendent of the British East African Police during the first decade of this century, and in 1908 he arrested Talbot Mundy (then passing as “Thomas Hartley”) in Lake Victoria. Although Foran was one of the few people who knew of Talbot Mundy’s past, he never publicly revealed his knowledge. Died in Nanyuki, Kenya. See also under Talbot Mundy.
