The first Fu serial was called simply "Fu-Manchu" in The Story-Teller and Chums, and  had no known overall series title in  Collier's.

Curiously, The Chicago Sunday Tribune reprinted the first five installments with a running title  that began as "This is the First of a Series of Stories of Fu-Manchu -- Tales of Thrill and Terror."  Subsequent installments simply changed to "Second," "Third," "Fourth" and "Fifth."  The second was titled "The Clew of the Pigtail" rather than the usual "Clue." When the February 24 issue was printed. The running title continued with "This is the First of a Series of Stories of Fu-Manchu -- Tales of Thrill and Terror" -- but the story was "The Wire Jacket," the first installment of the second series, The Return of Fu Manchu. Four subsequent issues continued the running titles with stories 2 through 5 of the second series. The tenth installment promises  "(Another Fu-Manchu story will appear next Sunday)."  It is not known if the eleventh installment was indeed published. Throughout the series, a variety of artists were used, including J. C. Coll.

Chums was a weekly British boys' paper; groups of 4 or 5 consecutive issues were bound together (with a new cover) and reissued monthly. The year's issues were also released in an annual bound volume. Serial installments were printed in an 8-page center section of each weekly issue, paginated separately (with Roman numerals) from the rest of the issue. These serial inserts  were included in the monthly reprints, but were generally omitted from the annual bound volumes.

"The Mystery of Dr. Fu-Manchu"  title was used in Pearson's Weekly for a 20-part serial comprised of BOTH of the first two Fu Manchu series.  The serial was illustrated by Frank Wright. The first 10 parts (the actual "Mystery of Dr. Fu-Manchu) ran through Issue Nos. 1898-1907, 11 December 1926 - 12 February 1927. The second 10 parts (actually The Return of Dr. Fu-Manchu) ran as Issue Nos. 1908-1917, 19 Feb 1927 - 23 Apr 1927.
