"Sax Rohmer is a
literary genius. He uses a good bit more description than I care for, but his work shows
extreme talent. His stories are interesting and his plots are wonderful. He must be an
Englishman, or he must have spent a good deal of time in London, for he knows more about
that city than I do of my own." From "Headquarters Chat,"

Detective Story Magazine was published by Street & Smith, Inc. In 1929 the same publisher introduced another detective pulp magazine, Best Detective Magazine, which reprinted two of the Rohmer stories from Detective Story Magazine. The reprint of The Yellow Claw was divided into five installments rather than six, and the story "Kerry's Kid" was re-titled.
