This book is a fix-up novel containing material that originally appeared in the earlier
Hamilton stories "Kingdoms of the Stars", "The Shores of Infinity",

novelettes were first printed in the magazines Amazing Stories and Fantastic.
Return to the Stars made its debut in book form in a 1968 French language omnibus
edition published by OPTA that also contained The Star Kings. It is worth noting
here that "The Broken Stars" and "The Horror from the Magellanic" were
written specially for this French edition and appeared in the OPTA book shortly before
their publication in English. Return to the Stars, whatever the provenance of the
tales within this volume, can be read as a sequel novel to The Star Kings with
its continuation of the adventures of John Gordon.

Words" in the July 1968 issue of the small-press magazine Deeper Than You Think
..., and the following novellas, novelettes and short stories:
"Dead Legs", "Vampire Village", "Snake-Man", "The

Men", "The House of the Evil Eye", "Children of Terror" and

Captain Future: Man of Tomorrow
Published by Pulpville Press, 2005
This book assembles the last seven stories Hamilton wrote that feature the character Dr.
Curtis Newton, otherwise known as "Captain Future". However, apart from
"The Return of Captain Future", it is rumoured that the other six of these tales
were in fact ghostwritten by Leigh Brackett, with Hamilton providing her with the synopses
and general guidance.
Captain Future: Man of Tomorrow contains the following novelettes: "The
Return of Captain Future", "Children of the Sun", "The Harpers of
Titan", "Pardon My Iron Nerves", "Moon of the Unforgotten",
"Earthmen No More" and "Birthplace of Creation".
Stark and the Star Kings
Published by Haffner Press, 2005
Edited by Stephen Haffner
This book includes an introduction by John Jakes, some notes by the author on the
"Star Kings" saga, the previously unpublished novelette "Stark and the Star
Kings", which Hamilton cowrote with Leigh Brackett and was to have been included in
Harlan Ellison's anthology The Last Dangerous Visions, and the following novels
by Hamilton: "The Star Kings" and "Return to the Stars".
Stark and the Star Kings also contains the following Eric John Stark novellas,
which were penned solely by Leigh Brackett: "Queen of the Martian Catacombs",
"Enchantress of Venus" and "Black Amazon of Mars".
Stark and the Star Kings
Published by Baen Books, 2008
This ebook contains the novelette "Stark and the Star Kings", which Hamilton
cowrote with Leigh Brackett, the novella "Enchantress of Venus", an Eric John
Stark story penned solely by Brackett, and the following novellas, novelettes and short
stories, all of which were also written by Brackett: "The Lake of the Gone
Forever", "Child of the Sun", "Retreat to the Stars" and
"The Jewel of Bas".
Given the fact that the majority of the contents of this ebook collection were written by
Hamilton's wife, the Baen Books edition of Stark and the Star Kings, with
material significantly different to the Haffner Press book, is more a Leigh Brackett
collection, but is included here due to its importance in providing, in ebook format, the
second printing of the novelette "Stark and the Star Kings", a story that was
originally sold to Harlan Ellison for inclusion in his anthology The Last Dangerous
Visions, which never saw publication until 2024, six years after Ellison's deathwith Hamilton and Brackett's collaboration missing from the contents!
The Eric John Stark Saga
Published by Baen Books, 2008
This ebook is an omnibus edition that includes the complete contents of the Baen Books
collection Stark and the Star Kings in addition to other material, written by
Hamilton and Brackett, which I have detailed below.
The Eric John Stark Saga also contains the novels "The Star Kings" and
"Return to the Stars" by Hamilton and the following Eric John Stark/Skaith
novels by Leigh Brackett: "The Secret of Sinharat", "The People of the
Talisman", "The Ginger Star", "The Hounds of Skaith" and
"The Reavers of Skaith".
As with the Baen Books collection Stark and the Star Kings, as opposed to the
earlier Haffner Press book, which shares the same title, this ebook collection is composed
of material that was mostly written by Leigh Brackett. Both Baen Books titles have the
same cover, as you can see! The reason for this, it would seem, is that the omnibus
edition is the only one available to buy. This is not a bad thing, in my opinion, as Baen
Books have made available, in affordable ebook format, a great selection of Hamilton and
Brackett stories!

bibliography because for any Hamilton fan, this is a wonderful gem of a volume and an item
of special interest.

Sources and Acknowledgments:
In the process of compiling this bibliography, as well as referring to my own collection
of literature, a number of online sources were consulted, not the least of which were The Internet Speculative Fiction Database
and Philip Stephensen-Payne's Galactic Central
website, the latter a home to the Fictionmags Index.
Addenda:
Notwithstanding several notable exceptions, I have, for the most part, not
included here in this bibliography the various ebook single-story chapbook publications
(although I have listed print chapbook editions), digital audio books, CD ROMs and
facsimile reprints of pulp magazines in which Hamilton's work has been reissued. In the
case of ebook chapbooks, much of the short fiction that has been republished in this
format is available to read for free online at the Project
Gutenberg website, as many of the author's early stories are now in the
public domain.
Also not included in this bibliography are the numerous articles, reviews, essays,
forewords, introductions, poems and letters the author contributed to various books and
periodicals, as well as interviews and biographical pieces written about Edmond Hamilton.
Information on where these appeared can be found at the The Internet Speculative Fiction Database and
the Galactic Central websites.
Moreover, it is worth acknowledging here that the author's writings have been reprinted
extensively in foreign language editions. Listing all of these publications is beyond the
scope of this webpage. However, information on books and magazines wherein Hamilton's work
has appeared in translation can be found at the aforementioned websites.
Starting in the 1940s, Hamilton had a parallel career writing prolifically for DC comics
as well as occasionally contributing to other comic book publishing houses. He penned
various comic strip stories well into the 1960s that featured Batman, Spiderman and the
Legion of Super-Heroes, to name a few. His writings for the comics were extensive, but are
not indexed in this bibliography. Various online sources provide a good deal of
information about Hamilton's notable work in this medium.
It is worth noting here that the Novels section of
this webpage only lists those stories that are considered to be full-length novels; that
is, above the novella/short novel length. However, things are a little complicated in this
regard because so many of the author's novels were originally printed in magazines (and
indeed reprinted in anthologies and other periodicals) and in the case of several, were
later revised and expanded above novelette/novella length for book publication. Moreover, Return
to the Stars (1969), which although can be considered simply as a sequel novel to The
Star Kings (1947), is in fact composed of four previously published novelettes.
Mindful of these facts, I have also listed Hamilton's full-length novels in the Short Fiction section of this webpage as a handy place
to provide information on reprints. I do of course acknowledge that this is technically
wrong, as a full-length novel can hardly be classed as short fiction. But then again, in
the case of A Yank at Valhalla (1941), there is a difference of opinion regarding
the classification of this story between The
Internet Speculative Fiction Database and the Galactic Central websites, in that one
considers it a novella, and the other, a full-length novel. For this bibliography, I have
gone with the latter view!
