SCIMIDAR by R. A. Jones
Now available!
Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to present the first novel based on the action packed, adult comic book “Scimidar” created by writer R.A. Jones and artist Rob Davis. Between 1986 and 1994, Eternity Comics, a label of Malibu Comics, published creator owned, offbeat titles and none was more original than “Scimidar” first released in 1988.
Set in a post apocalyptic world of the far future, Jones & Davis’ series told the story of a beautiful, sexy mercenary who would do whatever it took to survive and protect those she loved. “Scimidar” pushed the envelope in regards to fast-paced, action orientated adult fare for its time and is to this day fondly remembered by its legion of fans.
“I was a huge fan of the comics,” says Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor, Ron Fortier. “It was the first series that I remember seeing Rob’s work in and eventually let to my reaching out to him as one comic creator to another. Now, decades later he’s our Art Director here at Airship 27.” Fortier continues to explain how he and Davis often talked about their past comic careers and those projects that remained special in their memories.
Thus “Scimidar” kept coming up over and over again. Eventually Fortier contacted writer R.A. Jones with the idea of his writing a Scimidar pulp novel. “I was ecstatic when R.A. replied that he’d love to do such a book and of course no one was happier than Rob.”
Now R.A. Jones tells, for the very first time, the secret origin Scimidar in this exciting new, pulp infused novel, while Davis returns as the book’s illustrator. “It was a great pleasure to draw Scimidar again,” Davis adds happily. “It reminded me that I have never had quite as much fun as a storytelling artist as I did with those comic book stories.” Finally, popular Canadian artist Ted Hammond provides the gorgeous cover of this lethal beauty.
There was never another character like “Scimidar,” before or since. Open this book and find out why.
Available now from Amazon and coming soon on Kindle.

LEO MARGULIES: GIANT OF THE PULPS—HIS THRILLING, EXCITING, AND POPULAR JOURNEY
by Philip Sherman
Scheduled for release at Windy City Con (April 21-23)!
Pulp magazines written initially for boys in the first half of the Twentieth Century dominated the industry with stories about cowboys and Indians, science fiction, and adventure. They were written by such illustrious authors as Louis L’Amour, Ray Bradbury, L. Ron Hubbard, and Isaac Asimov, with a readership of tens of millions, for 10 cents a copy. The best-known editor of this era was Leo Margulies, editor-in-chief of Standard Magazines – The Thrilling Group. During one period, he bought two million words a month. He edited more than 70 magazines and was, for a time, the highest-paid pulp magazine editor in the country.
Leo Margulies: Giant of the Pulps—His Thrilling, Exciting, and Popular Journey, by his nephew, Philip Sherman, includes stories by members of his family, friends, and writers, about his generosity and encouragement to so many.
Dr. Sherman’s extensive research draws largely upon correspondence records from university archives, including University of Oregon, Northern Arizona University, Boston University, and Texas A&M University, and many others, and from journals such as Writers’ Digest and Author & Journalist. He talked and wrote to writers and others who knew his uncle and of course drew upon his own family’s personal experiences with this remarkable man.

CLOVELLY (The Argosy Library #22)
by Max Brand
Scheduled for release at Windy City Con (April 21-23)!
Michael Clovelly might not have been the greatest swordsman ever to come to London town during the reign of the Merry Monarch, Charles the Second, but if a better man ever wielded a blade, he had not yet stepped forth to claim the distinction.
Seeking gold with which to elevate his beggarly fortunes, Clovelly chances to encounter a bully, and his fierce swordwork brings him to the attention of Lord Teynham, who has need of a resourceful man with a rapier. The commission: to turn highwayman and rob a certain coach. The reasons? They are both murky and mysterious. But they have to do with a certain lady of impeccable character…. Since his belly is empty, Clovelly dares the hangman’s noose for a certain sum of gold—and barges into more strife and intrigue than he bargained for.
Max Brand was the personal pen name of Frederick Schiller Faust, one of the most prolific writers who ever lived. The creator of characters as diverse as Whistling Dan Barry, Destry and Dr. Kildaire, Faust specialized in Westerns, but also contributed to other genres. He wrote more that five hundred stories, but Clovelly is one of his rare cloak and sword swashbucklers.

THE ADVENTURES OF NORCROSS VOLUME 1:
WARLORD OF MANY SWORDMEN (The Argosy Library #23)
by W. Wirt
Scheduled for release at Windy City Con (April 21-23)!
The World War was over, its fighting finished. But not for Captain John Norcross of the American Expeditionary Force. He considered the Armistice a waste of good soldiers. So he welded together the best of his men to lead a regiment of the fightingest black soldiers who ever tore up the trenches. These were men born and bred for battle. Red McGee. Billy Gray. George Gunnell. Patton. The Boston Bean. The Fighting Yid. Corporal “Yaller” Coudray. Corporal “Delicate” Moss. And scores of others—one hundred and fifty strong.
Into wild western China with its bandits and feuding warlords, Captain Norcross marched his force. Their objective: A simple brass tube. Yet what it contained would prove priceless to the right parties. But first they would have to face a Zulu army—in the heart of China! Then there was the complication of the fugitive Manchu princess they happened to collect along the way….
William Wirt was a prolific writer of two-fisted adventure stories, renowned for his Argosy tales of mercenary Jimmie Cordie. His professional life was shadowy, and he claimed to have worked for the United States Secret Service, as had his father before him. Few today doubt Wirt’s credentials, for the quality and authenticity of his writing has stood the test of time.

THE MOON POOL & CONQUEST OF THE MOON POOL (The Argosy Library #26)
by Abraham Merritt
Introduction by Will Murray, Illustrated by Virgil Finlay
Scheduled for release at Windy City Con (April 21-23)!
Surrounded by crumbling Cyclopean ruins, the Moon Pool was a place of both horror and wonder. No Polynesian race had constructed it. Sacred yet accursed too, the spot was far older then recorded history. As was the luminous thing that dwelt within its unfathomable depths, a transcendent being summoned from its ancient slumber by the cold rays of the full moon.
Against this vampiric force beyond human comprehension, a group of brave scientists and adventurers takes up the challenge and confronts the unholy power known only as the Shining One. But even they do not suspect that behind this awesome apparition lurks ever more stupendous wonders left over from a prehuman age when superscience and elder sorcery were indistinguishable from one another.
A. Merritt was one of the pioneers in the field of science-fantasy fiction. A Munsey magazine mainstay, he electrified readers of All-Story Weekly when it published “The Moon Pool” in 1918. The hunting tale of supernatural wonder created a sensation that led to a novel-length sequel, The Conquest of the Moon Pool. This Altus Press volume collects for the first time the original unrevised versions of these now-classic tales, illustrated by the incomparable Virgil Finlay.

THE GUN-BRAND (The Argosy Library #27)
by James B. Hendryx
Scheduled for release at Windy City Con (April 21-23)!
Through Chloe Elliston’s veins coursed the reckless blood of her world-roving ancestor, the legendary “Tiger” Elliston. Tiger Ellison, the seaman who had built a fleet of cargo steamers that tramped the whole wide world. Tiger Elliston, scourge of pirates from the South Seas to distant Asia.
With her entourage, Harriett Penny and the Amazonian Big Lena, the granddaughter of Tiger Elliston had come to the northland to move freight up the Slave River and make her own fortune. But north of 60 is a hard, raw land, one where women did not readily fit in. Not even the fearless offspring of a human tiger. For here Chloe would become embroiled in a bitter feud between “Brute” McNair—“the Bad Man of the North” and the free-trader named Pierre Lapierre. Dare she trust one over the other? And which one?
James B. Hendryx was a prolific author who lived the kind of life mirrored in his fictional heroes. A Minnesota native, he had prospected in the Yukon, been a cowboy in the U.S. West and Canada, as well as serving a stint is a newspaper reporter. In his time, Hendryx was considered one of the premier authors of a popular genre now all but extinct—the “Northern.”

JAN OF THE JUNGLE (The Argosy Library #28)
by Otis Adelbert Kline
Scheduled for release at Windy City Con (April 21-23)!
Led to believe that his natural mother is a chimpanzee, a young boy knows only the savage ways of the great apes. Kept in a cage, he is systematically trained to become a savage killer by the fiendish Dr. Bracken. The target of Bracken’s rage is none other than the woman who spurned him—the orphan boy’s own mother!
After fate causes him to be shipwrecked on the coast of Venezuela, the feral youngster, accompanied by his surrogate mother, Chicma the chimp, escapes into the jungle and discovers a strange land inhabited by prehistoric dinosaurs and primitive man-monsters. Transformed by contact with the beautiful Ramona, the teenaged beast-boy learns the ways of civilization and becomes Jan of the Jungle!
Otis Adelbert Kline was a popular Argosy writer in the vein of Edgar Rice Burroughs. He specialized in planetary romances set on Mars and Venus, so it was inevitable that he would follow in Burroughs’ literary footsteps by creating a version of Tarzan of the Apes to call his own. Jan of the Jungle reappeared in the Argosy sequel, Jan in India, and was adapted as a 1935 Universal serial, Call of the Savage.

MINIONS OF THE MOON (The Argosy Library #29)
by William Grey Beyer
Scheduled for release at Windy City Con (April 21-23)!
Move over, Buck Rogers!
When Mark Nevin was put under general anesthetic, he expected to wake up minus his appendix. That was all. To his shock and horror, he discovered himself 6,000 years in the future, long after mankind had referred back to savagery.
Fortunately for Mark, the surgeon who accidentally placed him in suspended animation carefully laid him in a crypt containing all the means for survival available in the 20th century. And he would need them, for he was about to plunge into a world more dangerous and primitive in the long-dead one he had known. And Mark Nevin would not be alone. There was the beautiful Nona Barr. And the mysterious Omega, a disembodied moon-mind with the personality of a mischievous child yet possessing the transformative power of a god. Not to mention assorted cannibals and an actual dragon.
William Gray Beyer was a Philadelphia railroad worker and policeman who moonlighted writing fiction. His first effort, the whacky and whimsical Minions of the Moon, proved so popular that he brought back Mark Nevin for several more Argosy installments, including Minions of Mercury and Minions of the Shadow.

DRINK WE DEEP (The Argosy Library #30)
by Arthur Leo Zagat
Scheduled for release at Windy City Con (April 21-23)!
Nestled in the Heidelberg Hills of New York State lies Lake Wankoona. Beneath its tranquil blue surface broods another world, a place inhabited by a race of beings unknown in human history.
Impelled by an eerie summons he cannot comprehend, archeologist Hugh Lambert is drawn into the lake’s placid depths—and into a vortex of unreality. There, he encounters the unearthly Little Men, who work their scientific necromancy upon the cold corpses of those who had the misfortune to fall into the lake’s uncanny bottomlessness. There, also, he meets the coldly beautiful and cruelly enthralling Nalinah, and learns of a sinister scheme to conquer the Upper World—with he, himself, destined to be in the vanguard!
Arthur Leo Zagat was famed as “The Horror Story Man,” owing to his numerous Weird Menace stories written for Terror Tales and similar magazines of horror. But Zagat also proved capable of writing quality fantasy fiction in the style of A. Merritt, as he proved in the pages of Argosy magazine with memorable novels such as the classic Seven Out of Time and the haunting Drink We Deep.

| THE ART OF THE PULPS
by Doug Ellis, Ed Hulse, and Robert Weinberg
Foreword by F. Paul Wilson
Coming in September!
A team of experts in each of the ten major Pulp genres, from action Pulps to spicy Pulps and more, chart for the first time the complete history of Pulp magazines–the stories and their writers, the graphics and their artists, and, of course, the publishers, their market, and readers.
Each chapter in the book, which is illustrated with more than 400 examples of the best Pulp graphics (many from the Editors’ collections—among the world’s largest) is organized in a clear and accessible way, starting with an introductory overview of the genre, followed by a selection of the best covers and interior graphics, organized chronologically through the chapter. All images are fully captioned (many are in essence "nutshell" histories in themselves). Two special features in each chapter focus on topics of particular interest (such as extended profiles of Daisy Bacon, Pulp author and editor of Love Story, the hugely successful romance Pulp, and of Harry Steeger, co-founder of Popular Publications in 1930 and originator of the "Shudder Pulp" genre).
With an overall Introduction on "The Birth of the Pulps" by Doug Ellis, and with two additional chapters focusing on the great Pulp writers and the great Pulp artists, The Art of the Pulps covers every aspect of this fascinating genre; it is the first definitive visual history of the Pulps.
Hardcover, 240 pages, $39.99
From co-author Doug Ellis:
Coming this September will be a new book on the pulps, co-edited by Bob Weinberg, Ed Hulse and myself, called "The Art of the Pulps." It's being put together by the same folks who did the great "The Art of Horror" by Stephen Jones in 2015. The book is an illustrated history of the pulps, with over 400 cover images (and some interiors) reproduced. Bob and I started on this project back in January 2016, and when he passed away last September, Ed Hulse graciously stepped in to provide his expertise.
We broke up the pulp universe into ten genres, ach of which has a chapter devoted to it, as well as chapters on the great pulp artists, the great pulp authors, the birth of the pulps and the end of the pulps. While Bob, Ed and I wrote several of the chapters, we enlisted a Murderer's Row of experts to write various of them -- Mike Ashley for SF, Will Murray for hero, Michelle Nolan for sports, Laurie Powers for love, David Saunders for the great artists, John Wooley for detective and Tom Roberts for aviation/war. And F. Paul Wilson was kind enough to contribute the foreword!
In addition to the introductory text for each chapter, each of the genre chapters has two features focusing on a particular aspect of the topic. For example, the love chapter has features on Daisy Bacon, the legendary editor of Love Story Magazine, and on the western love pulps, which started with Ranch Romances, while the hero pulp chapter has features on The Shadow/Doc Savage and on the villain pulps. Similarly, the great authors chapter has a feature focusing on H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, while the great artists' feature covers Norman Saunders and Walter Baumhofer.
Each of the images is accompanied by lengthy caption text, which may discuss the magazine, the artist, the publisher, an author or something else relevant to the image selected. Beyond using material selected from our own collections, we need to thank Sheila Vanderbeek, John Gunnison and Michelle Nolan for helping us obtain scans of various rare pulps. I know I'm prejudiced about this, but having seen the layouts, I can safely say that this will be a beautiful book!
Although it won't be out for another six months, as of a few days ago, Amazon and some other online bookstores began listing it for pre-order. This book will also be solicited in Diamond Comics PREVIEWS and available in comic shops.
I anticipate it will be solicited in either the May or June issue of PREVIEWS.

Instead we ended up having a wide ranging conversation on so many topics that it is hard to characterize this discussion.

| Bernie Wrightson: October 27, 1948 to March 19, 2017
Bernie Wrightson, the prolific horror comic book artist, died on Sunday, March 19, after a long battle with brain cancer, his wife announced.
Bernie “Berni” Wrightson was an American artist known for his horror illustrations and comic books. He received training in art from reading comics, particularly those of EC, as well as through a correspondence course from the Famous Artists School. In 1966, Wrightson began working for The Baltimore Sun newspaper as an illustrator. The following year, after meeting artist Frank Frazetta at a comic-book convention in New York City, he was inspired to produce his own stories. In 1968, he showed copies of his sequential art to DC Comics editor Dick Giordano and was given a freelance assignment. Wrightson began spelling his name “Berni” in his professional work to distinguish himself from an Olympic diver named Bernie Wrightson, but later restored the final E to his name.
Wrightson is best known for co-creating the DC Comics monster Swamp Thing with Len Wein in 1971.
Wrightson’s many other projects include a 1983 version of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein.”
He also illustrated the comic book adaptation of the Stephen King-written horror film “Creepshow.”
Wrightson was known for his vivid attention to detail and took on the works of such authors as Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft.
Wrightson had originally been asked by DC to handle the art for its revival of The Shadow, but he left the project early on when he realized he could not produce the necessary minimum number of pages on time, along with his work on Swamp Thing. Michael Kaluta illustrated the series, but Wrightson did contribute much to the third issue in both pencils and inks, as well as inking the splash page of issue four. Wrightson also produced a classic house ad for the Shadow series that ran in various DC comics.

Pulp fiction's first super-villain is back after nearly 100 years in obscurity—and his criminous exploits are just as thrilling now as they were a century ago!

Amateur criminologist and millionaire clubman Roger Verbeck, aided by his loyal valet Muggs, sets out to apprehend Black Star and finally does. But the master criminal makes good his escape and, once again in command of his army of robed and hooded henchmen, plots a campaign of revenge that will find the mayor, police commissioner, and prominent citizens under his control and at his mercy—with even the brilliant Roger Verbeck powerless to stop it!

FLICKERING SHADOWS
How Pulpdom's Master of Darkness Brightened the Silver Screen
Now available!
FLICKERING SHADOWS! Subtitled "How Pulpdom's Master of Darkness Brightened the Silver Screen," this 98-page monograph—about the length of a typical issue of BLOOD 'N' THUNDER—fully chronicles The Shadow's career in films and television. Beginning with the character's 1931 motion-picture debut in Universal's "Shadow Detective" featurettes, Ed Hulse follows the premier pulp hero in his two Grand National feature films, his 1940 cliffhanger serial, his three Monogram "B" mysteries, his two unsold TV pilots of the '50s, and finally the big-budget 1994 spectacular starring Alec Baldwin. Along the way Hulse debunks Shadow movie myths and even covers films scripted but never made, drawing on his extensive research and in-person interviews. He also discusses the Shadow pulp magazine so as to offer context in his examination of the motion pictures.
The book is profusely illustrated with stills, posters, lobby cards, vintage pulp covers, and even frame captures from the films themselves. It's a must-have for Shadow fans. Get it today at muraniapress.com!

| THE HORROR ON THE LINKS: THE COMPLETE TALES OF JULES DE GRANDIN, VOLUME ONE - Coming April 4!
by Seabury Quinn
Today the names of H. P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, August Derleth, and Clark Ashton Smith, all regular contributors to the pulp magazine Weird Tales during the first half of the twentieth century, are recognizable even to casual readers of the bizarre and fantastic. And yet despite being more popular than them all during the golden era of genre pulp fiction, there is another author whose name and work have fallen into obscurity: Seabury Quinn.
Quinn’s short stories were featured in well more than half of Weird Tales’s original publication run. His most famous character, the supernatural French detective Dr. Jules de Grandin, investigated cases involving monsters, devil worshippers, serial killers, and spirits from beyond the grave, often set in the small town of Harrisonville, New Jersey. In de Grandin there are familiar shades of both Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot, and alongside his assistant, Dr. Samuel Trowbridge, de Grandin’s knack for solving mysteries—and his outbursts of peculiar French-isms (grand Dieu!)—captivated readers for nearly three decades.
Collected for the first time in trade editions, The Complete Tales of Jules de Grandin, edited by George Vanderburgh, presents all ninety-three published works featuring the supernatural detective. Presented in chronological order over five volumes, and including all thirty-two original Weird Tales covers illustrated for de Grandin stories, this is the definitive collection of an iconic pulp hero.
The first volume, The Horror on the Links, includes all of the Jules de Grandin stories from “The Horror on the Links” (1925) to “The Chapel of Mystic Horror” (1928), as well as an introduction by Robert Weinberg.
Cover art by Donato Giancola

| Scheduled to ship in July 2017, this spectacular new book explores the life and work of one of America's greatest illustrators — Bernie Fuchs.
At the peak of his fame, Bernie Fuchs' work was more widely admired—and imitated—than any other contemporary illustrator. At the age of 30 he was named “Artist of the Year” by the Artists Guild of New York. By 1975, he was the youngest illustrator ever elected to the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame. At the time, his work was everywhere—in national ad campaigns for automotive companies and major brands, and in national magazines such as McCall’s, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, TV Guide, Sports Illustrated, and many more. His work was included in the Society of Illustrators first annual book in 1959, and appeared in every year after for the duration of his career, a feat unmatched by any other illustrator. Now at last a major retrospective of Bernie's work has been assembled, the first such book published to date.
This spectacular new book features over 300 of Bernie Fuch's illustrations, along with rare photographs, drawings, original paintings, and tear sheets.
240 pages, 9x12 inches, full-color, hardbound with dust jacket. $44.95 (plus postage.)

| KING KONG OF SKULL ISLAND
Kickstarter Campaign now online!
This project will be open until Thursday, March 30 2017!
It has reached its funding goal!
Welcome to the King Kong of Skull Island project. This is for all those with an irrepressible love of art, King Kong, dinosaurs, ancient civilizations, assorted monsters, real and speculative science plus fiction, action, adventure, and other assorted knick knacks of imagination. With your help, this Kickstarter will delve deeper into the mysteries surrounding King Kong and Skull Island than ever before.
King Kong of Skull Island contains the long awaited expansion of Joe’s original 1992 creation, Skull Island. King Kong of Skull Island will open with The Denham Diaries, which will be followed by a novel in two parts: Part 1: Exodus and Part 2: The Wall, all co-written by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland. The book will feature lush, full color interior art and an extensive sketchbook section written and lavishly illustrated by DeVito.
Creating the original Skull Island and its ancillary work, The History of Skull Island, brought into play a life-long fascination with everything King Kong. Conceived with the full support of Kong creator Merian C. Cooper’s family, these represented the first true expansions of the King Kong mythos since the creation of Kong himself–not only of King Kong, but of all the Kongs who came before him, as well as the forgotten human civilization that came to occupy Skull Island millennia before.
The new novel, the accompanying Denham Diaries, sketchbook text, drawings and details contained in this new King Kong of Skull Island book cover the entire ground-breaking Skull Island creation and exponentially expands upon it. It goes on to explore the continued saurian evolution and adaptation that took place on the island over the 65 million years following the mass extinction of the dinosaurs. King Kong of Skull Island uncovers the origins of both the mighty Kongs and the Tagatu civilization, while digging deep into the very foundations of Skull Island itself. Woven throughout the entire tapestry of the stories are unusual scientific facts and theories to add verisimilitude. Each book comes with a numbered bookplate exclusive to this edition that is signed by the authors.
In development for 25 years, King Kong of Skull Island features a 95,000 word novel in two parts.
Part 1: EXODUS delves into the hidden history of the Tagatu civilization, the origins of the mighty Kongs and the strange, ancient interactions that enabled their survival in the midst of disastrous events. Facing impossible obstacles, the spectacular exodus of an entire civilization unfolds against a cataclysmic backdrop leading to an unlikely destination: Skull Island. Unless a solution can be found quickly, the unimaginable dangers encountered there threaten to forever wipe them from the face of the earth…
Part 2: THE WALL tells the incredible story of what happened on Skull Island after the arrival there of the first human civilization, their interaction with the prehistoric Kongs, and the war for species survival against the island’s strange saurian denizens. Life there has not stood still, but continued to evolve for tens of millions of years to a point where humans may no longer be dominant. The inevitable, penultimate war for survival between humans, Kongs and super-saurians takes place against the backdrop of the massive undertaking of the building of the iconic Wall: A barrier that will span the millennia to play a major role in the eventual rise and fall of the mythic beast-god of Skull Island, King Kong!
King Kong of Skull Island also contains the 30,000 word Denham Diaries, a retelling of DeVito’s original Skull Island story that reveals the fate of Carl Denham in the wake of King Kong’s death, recounts the epic adventure of how Kong became a King, and determines the fate of the Tagatu people. Along the way many mysteries of Skull Island are uncovered, effectively making the island a character in its own right. The book will also feature an extensive, lavishly illustrated sketchbook section of over 25,000 words by DeVito that digs into the foundations of Skull Island as never before, as well as a lush, full–color Kong/Skull Island art gallery!
Pledge today to get your copy of this exciting and soon to be rare book!

From his first appearance in 1912, Tarzan became a multimedia franchise whose cultural influence extended well beyond mere entertainment. The original 20th century superhero, the Lord of the Apes was the inspiration behind such early archetypes as The Shadow and Doc Savage, themselves the basis for heroes like Batman and Superman.
Long before Comic-Cons and Trekkies, the first Tarzan fan club was formed in America in 1916, pioneering the fandom movement that pervades modern pop culture.
This book examines Tarzan in his various media representations—hunter, warrior, secret agent, fighter of communists and Nazis—and in his numerous story arcs, including crossover adventures featuring historical characters like Arthur Conan Doyle and Nikola Tesla.

Coming in August!
In Philip José Farmer’s novel Two Hawks from Earth, Native American pilot Roger Two Hawks flew through his first “gate” while on a bombing run over Romania during World War II. The gate brought him to Earth 2, a world where the Americas never existed. Since then he has continued to fight battles on Earth after Earth, each more strange than the next.
In Heidi Ruby Miller’s short story “Dakota’s Gate” (Worlds of Philip José Farmer 3), set on Earth 3, North America never advanced past stone tools and rock shelters. But that’s where Two Hawks met another gate traveler, Dakota Cummings. It was Dakota, a woman turned friend and lover, who pulled him through a gate to her Earth, the most alien and deadly of all.
Earth 4. Two hundred years in the future. A war thirty-six thousand feet underwater. Two Hawks must draw upon all he’s learned during his gate travels in order to survive war between technologically advanced humans and their far-future hybrid cousins. This time more than just his and Dakota’s lives are at stake—the fate of an entire world is in his hands.
Featuring cover art by Mark Wheatley, an introduction by Christopher Paul Carey, and the short story “Dakota’s Gate” as a prelude, Man of War is a 24,500-word novella full of the action and adventure you’d expect of Philip José Farmer’s Roger Two Hawks.

| PULP HEROES - SANCTUARY FALLS - Coming April 15!
by Wayne A. Reinagel
The penultimate chapter in the thrilling Pulp Heroes trilogy of novels, Sanctuary Falls is the epic conclusion of an extraordinary series of adventures spanning two centuries in time and linking the incredible lives of history’s most popular Victorian Age adventurers of the 1800’s with the greatest action heroes of the Pulp Era and an assortment of well-known, real-life figures.
Two generations of heroes, one incredible destiny. An extraterrestrial warning, originating from beyond the infinite gulf of space and time, is brought to the attention of Earth’s greatest pulp heroes, predicting the annihilation of the Earth. Even worse, if it cannot be prevented, this tremendous wave of Armageddon will expand beyond the solar system, encompassing the entire Multiverse; consisting of more than a hundred billion worlds. While investigating the interstellar menace, the fellowship of Mystery Men (Doc Titan, Darkness, Scorpion, and Guardian) band together for the final time and, along the way, unearth a succession of incredibly complex government secrets, interwoven with subterfuge, both foreign and domestic.
Sanctuary Falls weaves an incredible tapestry, perfectly integrating dozens of outwardly random events, involving UFO’s, the 1908 Tunguska Event, the Cold War, Time Travel, CIA & KGB, covert military operations, Area 51, Nikola Tesla's Wardenclyffe Tower, missing ships and planes in the Bermuda Triangle, Nazis in Antarctica, and much, much more. Although Pulp Heroes - Sanctuary Falls is the final chapter of this massive three-part trilogy, Pulp Heroes - Khan Dynasty and Pulp Heroes - More Than Mortal chronicle the earlier eras of the Mystery Men. Each of the novels a self-contained story, painted in bold, sweeping strokes.

Operating out of the supposedly haunted Montgomery Mansion, Secret Agent “X” ventures forth in a bewildering array of false identities to infiltrate the darkest underbellies of the Underworld—and destroy it from within. The only clue to his true identity is his haunting whistle…..
Secret Agent “X”s far-flung, crime-crushing organization brought him whisperings of a fiend who meted out a death worse than death––a monster who called himself the Ghoul, for this Ghoul made men living prisoners in an amber colored shroud of their own dead flesh. And even Secret Agent “X,” the man of a thousand disguises, a thousand surprises, was checkmated when he pried into the Ghoul’s palace of pain.
|
|
The enigma of enigmas, Secret Agent “X” has been deputized by a high government official to battle the darkest, most diabolical enemies of America before they sink their poisonous fangs into the nation’s healthy core. Faceless and unsung, “X” infiltrates these threats in a bewildering array of disguises.
Although Paul Chadwick created Secret Agent “X”, G. T. Fleming-Roberts contributed the most stories to the character’s canon. Fleming-Roberts also contributed to other series. Most notably, Diamondstone the Magician and the Green Ghost were crime solvers of a sort that Fleming-Roberts enjoyed creating; magician detectives. This interest in slightly different crime tales probably contributed a great deal to Fleming-Roberts’ work on Secret Agent “X”.
Walking a fine line between Government Agent and masked vigilante, Secret Agent “X” almost demanded villains more extreme than he was. Street level crime was not what the likes of Doctor Marko, The Ghoul, Thoth, and Madam Death practiced. They brought mass murder and hysteria and only a figure such as Secret Agent “X” could stand up to them.
Follow the Man of a Thousand Faces as he confronts the menace of The Golden Ghoul, ripped from the pages of Secret Agent “X” magazine, July 1935 and read with chilling intensity by Milton Bagby.

Curt Newton leads his valiant band of Futuremen in the thrilling campaign to preserve a priceless Lunar heritage!
From the pages of classic Pulp, Captain Future flies into action, displaying the most exciting aspects of Science Fiction. Although modeled to a degree after Doc Savage, Captain Future is also the ultimate space opera hero. Coming complete with not only a tragic, yet inspiring origin story driving him into defending interstellar justice, everyone and everything Curt Newton encounters is colorful, vibrant, and over the top, definite trademarks of the best space opera.
|
|
Although an orphan, Curtis Newton’s parents left him with gifts that would most definitely lead to him becoming Captain Future, the superman of the spaceways. His mother, Elaine, provided him with his mission, to become the protector of the solar system, to fight for justice wherever it may take him. Roger, his father, not only passed on incredible genius and scientific skills, but he provided him with three caregivers that would grow to be the greatest team a space faring hero could have - The Futuremen!
The Futuremen all have their origins in the Moon Laboratory that is both home and headquarters to Captain Future. Referred to as a ‘citadel of science’, the Moon Laboratory is designed in a circular fashion and contains quarters for the Futuremen, even though not all of them, such as Grag, actually require rest. A reference library containing the vast knowledge of the universe, the Brain’s personal lab, a large room that serves as both workspace and social area with a glassite window as ceiling, and many other rooms make up the Moon Laboratory, definitely the perfect place for an interplanetary hero to call his own.
Rocket into science fiction adventure and discover new worlds. Ripped from the pages of the Spring 1942 issue of Captain Future magazine, “Outlaws of the Moon” is read with wonder and excitement by Milton Bagby.

| REED CRANDALL ILLUSTRATOR OF COMICS - Coming in July!
From the 1940s to the ’70s, Reed Crandall brought a unique and masterful style to American comic art. Using an illustrator's approach on everything he touched, Crandall gained a reputation as the “artist’s artist” through his skillful interpretations of Golden Age super-heroes Doll Man, The Ray, and Blackhawk (his signature character); horror and sci-fi for the legendary EC Comics line; Warren Publishing’s Creepy, Eerie, and Blazing Combat; the THUNDER Agents and Edgar Rice Burroughs characters; and even Flash Gordon for King Features.
Comic art historian Roger Hill has compiled a complete and extensive history of Crandall’s life and career, from his early years and major successes, through his tragic decline and passing in 1982.
This hardcover includes never-before-seen photos, a wealth of rare and unpublished artwork, and over eighty thousand words of insight into one of the true illustrators of the comics.
Softcover, 8x11, 256 pages, Full Color, $49.95, On sale July 26.
