Beb Books - Now available!
Just in time for New Years,
two new reprints from the famous Secret Agent X series.
Secret Agent X: SLAVES OF THE SCORPION
Secret Agent X: SATAN'S SYNDICATE
Plus: A new Hurricane Williams story and a Johnston McCulley novel!

First up is "Slaves of the Scorpion, the 32nd adventure of the Man of a Thousand Faces.

Weird symbol of ruthless greed and savage murder, that crimson talisman of the Scorpion flared its scarlet hue from skyscraper pinnacles. For the dreaded Scorpion had finally struck, seizing full power of the metropolis. And Agent X, greatest impersonator of the century, knew that he had met his match in a devil who could change his identity with the speed of light.

The Scorpion demands obedience from all gangs on threat of secret assassination. No one is safe from the Scorpion's sinister plots. Can the Secret Agent defeat a criminal after he's already conquered the city?

This is followed by Satan's Syndicate. Secret Agent X's 33rd adventure.

The weird coal mine Inferno, burning for decades, poured its ghastly flames into the stark night. It was a fitting lair for the awesome, implacable killer who sent such chill terror to the hearts of powerful coal barons that they formed a dread syndicate with Satan to save their lives. And even the skill and daring of Secret Agent X seemed defeated against so powerful a combine.

Two more books are ready for ordering although covers are not yet available for display.

First is “Wild Blood” the third reprint of the Hurricane Williams series (though second in sequence). Williams is determined to steal a schooner and take it to a remote island for reasons he refuses to give.  But he’s not above letting an Englishman and his daughter pay for expenses since they, too, want to go to this island, for reasons they won’t give. Will Williams survive all the skulduggery and secret plotting? Will the Englishman discover why Williams is nicknamed “Hurricane.
$6/00 for a fascinating adventure.

The other story ready for ordering is Johnston McCulley’s novel of kidnapping and South Seas adventure, “King of Chaos.” – A yong man is kidnapped from the harbor of Seattle and when he recovers from a chloroforming is surprised to find that everyone treats him as if he were a king. Albeit, a king being dragged willy-nilly to a remote island settled by his Great grandfather a century before.  In accordance to a weird will, he is being returned to the island to resume the monarchy. The current rulers of the island are naturally somewhat less than enthused. Suddenly the supreme ruler of the land is a hunted dog. Can he survive and reclaim his throne?
Breakneck action for only $6.00

Go Hero
Doc Savage 1/6th Scale Figure

Coming soon!

Go Hero, in conjunction with Executive Replicas, has revealed their next 1:6th scale "pulp" action figure will be Doc Savage.
The man of bronze joins previously released pulp hero figures Flash Gordon and The Shadow.

Pictured is a first look (work in progress) at one of two Doc Savage head sculpts, this one representing his "Golden Age" look made famous on the pulp covers.
The other head sculpt will reflect Doc Savage's "Silver Age." Both stunning head sculpts were created by talented Go Hero friend and artist Gabriel Marquez.

Go Hero is currently in discussions on a possible Doc Savage exclusive. If an exclusive deal pans out, this "Golden Age" look will be its head sculpt.
If not, the figure will ship with two heads. Full details to be announced in the coming weeks.

Go Hero states that they are going all out on this figure, Doc Savage featuring metal and leather accessories, multiple guns, defined muscle body and more.

THE COMPLETE JOHN THUNSTONE

Now available!
(Writer) Manly Wade Wellman (Cover) Raymond Swanland

THE COMPLETE JOHN THUNSTONE by Manly Wade Wellman is now shipping.
Copies are on their way and Haffner Press expects to have the remaining preorders shipped by the 31st.

Conceived by Manly Wade Wellman and Weird Tales editor Dorothy McIlwraith in 1943, John Thunstone is a scholar and playboy who investigates mysterious supernatural events. Large and strong, intelligent, handsome, and wealthy, he has the typical attributes of a heroic character. He is also well-read in occult matters and has access to weapons (such as a sword-cane forged by a saint) that are especially potent against vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures.  In addition to the ghosts and other traditional supernatural beings, several of Thunstone’s enemies are Wellman’s unique creations. Particularly compelling are the the enigmatic shonokins, a race of human-like creatures who claim to have ruled North America before the coming of humans. Thunstone’s most persistent foe is  the diabolical sorcerer Rowley Thorne, a character loosely based on the real occultist Aleister Crowley. Thunstone originally appeared in short stories published in Weird Tales from 1943 to 1951 with a final short story in 1982. Wellman would later write two novels featuring Thunstone: What Dreams May Come (1983) and The School of Darkness (1985).

2013 Windy City Pulp Convention
April 12-14, 2013

Well, with the New Year fast approaching, the clock is ticking towards pulp fandom's first big party of the year -- the 2013 Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention.  The con will run from April 12-14, 2013 (with the con suite opening the night of April 11), and will be at the same hotel as the last several, the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center in Lombard, IL. The last two years our dealer room has had 141 tables and we're going with the same configuration this year.  Based on the last two years, we should sell out of wall tables in early January, and island tables in early February, so if you've been thinking of getting a table at the convention, please let us know as soon as possible!

This year's themes will celebrate the 80th anniversaries of science fiction and fantasy magazines (using as our starting point Weird Tales for fantasy and the scientifiction issue of Science & Invention for SF), as well as the 100th anniversary of Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu.

Those themes will be the focus of our film programming, once again being assembled by Blood 'N' Thunder's Ed Hulse, as well as our art show, program book and evening panels.

If you have any appropriate art that you'd be willing to make available for display, please let me know.  And we're still looking for more material for the program book, which once again is in the hands of Tom Roberts of Black Dog Books (and if you'd like to place an ad in the program book, the deadline is March 5, 2013).

Our Friday night auction will once again feature material from the estate of Jerry Weist, but this time most of the material will be from Jerry's personal collection (as well as a few lots from the warehouse find that has been the focus of the last few year's auctions).  As many of you know, Jerry collected for condition, and there are some beautiful pulps among the over 1100 items that will be spread across 200 lots.  We're in the process of photographing and scanning, and have 41 lots currently available for viewing on our website and Facebook page -- check them out!  More will be added soon.

Among the highlights of the auction are over 80 issues of ALL-STORY, including 16 issues with ERB (including 3 installments of his first story, UNDER THE MOONS OF MARS), a complete run of PLANET STORIES in great condition, 11 stunning issues of REAL DETECTIVE TALES AND MYSTERY STORIES, a rare publisher's bound copy of OVERLAND MONTHLY featuring 2 stories and 2 poems by CLARK ASHTON SMITH (including his first published story and first published poem), items from the files of the Gernsback magazines, early issues of BLUE BOOK, and tons more.

If you're planning on staying at the hotel, the deadline for booking rooms and getting the convention rate is 5:00 pm Central on March 25, 2013.
You can book online at the website the hotel set up for us:  https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/Book/5324
You can also find the link on our website and Facebook page.

We look forward to seeing you at the convention!

The Adventures of the 19XX: Book One Hardcover Reprint
A new kickstarter campaign has launched!

The first Adventures of the 19XX graphic novel is being reprinted with 140 pages of revised art in a new hardcover format! A new kickstarter campaign has launched to finance the first book in the series which was nominated for the Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer award in 2011.

The 19XX is a series about a secret organization in the 1930s trying to prevent WWII from happening. They’ve seen the future and know the horrors of war are coming. Evil groups also know the war is coming, and they are doing everything they can to make sure they win that war. But what if the war is our fate? How can we fight against the inevitable? The series starts in 1933 and ends in 1939. Six books will follow the secret group of heroes known as the 19XX and explore the meaning of fate. Each book is a self contained, high-flying adventure, and future volumes build toward a global showdown between good and evil. Book One and Book Two are already completed and available in this Kickstarter.

Book One in the series was originally released in 2011. For this book, Paul Roman Martinez
earned a nomination for the Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award which is handed out annually at San Diego Comic-Con’s Eisner Awards. That edition sold out during the last kickstarter campaign, and since then, Martinez has redesigned the entire book with new artwork, over 10 new pages, a newly edited story, and a new Secret Files of the 19XX. The Secret files of the 19XX was originally designed as a half-letter sized companion book to the main series. The original had dossiers on all the main characters appearing in Book One and was about 47 pages. The newly revised Secret Files has over 84 pages of material. This includes some great illustrated short stories that delve deeper into the origins of the 19XX and some articles about gadgets, machines, and life in the diesel age!

WELCOME TO HARD TIMES

Airship 27 Productions proudly announces the release of their 16th and final title of the year; PROHIBITION by Terrence McCauley.  The year is 1930 and New York is a city on the edge. The Roaring '20s ended with the Stock Market Crash and the Great Depression is only beginning. Banks are failing. Companies are closing their doors. Breadlines grow longer by the day. The only market making money is the black market: racketeering, rum running, and speakeasies.  But when even those vices begin to weaken, the most powerful gangster on the Eastern Seaboard, Archie Doyle, sees the writing on the wall. He launches a bold scheme that, if successful, will secure his empire’s future beyond Prohibition. Beyond even the Great Depression.

But when a mysterious rival attempts to kill Doyle’s right hand man, a dangerous turf war begins to brew. With his empire under attack, Doyle turns to his best gun, former boxer Terry Quinn, for answers. Quinn must use his brains as well as his brawn to uncover who is behind the violence and why before Doyle’s empire comes crashing down.

New York based writer Terrence McCauley whips up a fast paced pulp thriller ripe with Tommy-gun blasting hoods, corrupt cops and deadly dames in this original novel reminiscent of the classic gangster movies of old.  “This is pure, unadulterated gangster pulp,” cheers Airship 27 Managing Editor Ron Fortier.  “When I first read it, I immediately found myself thinking of all those great black and white Warner
Brothers film classics starring Edward G.Robinson, James Cagney, Humprhey Bogart and George Raft. McCauley captures the feel and atmosphere of those rambunctious outlaw days when the mobs were battling each other for control of the Big Apple.”

Beautifully illustrated by Rob Moran who also provides the cover as colored by Shannon Hall with designs by Rob Davis, PROHIBITION is a tough-guy blow to the literary gut readers will not soon forget.

AMAZING STORIES - Coming soon!

Pro Se Productions Partner and Editor-in-Chief Tommy Hancock announced today that he along with more than 50 other writers from around the blogosphere would help launch the Beta Test of Phase 1 of the return of Amazing Stories on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013!

Amazing Stories was the world's first science fiction magazine. Published by Hugo Gernsback, the Father of Science Fiction, the magazine created the genre's first home and was instrumental in helping to establish science fiction fandom – the fandom from which all other fandoms have evolved.

The magazine itself ceased publication in 2005; in 2008 the new publisher, Steve Davidson, discovered that the trademarks had lapsed and applied for them. The marks were finally granted in 2011.

Phase 1 introduces the social networking aspects of the site and the Blog Team, more than 50 authors, artists, collectors, editors, pod casters, designers and bloggers who will address 14 different subjects on a regular basis – SF, Fantasy & Horror literature, anime, gaming, film, television, the visual arts, audio works, the pulps, comics, fandom, science and publishing.

Hancock stated, "Of course, with my interest in Pulps, a lot of my focus will be there, both Classic and New. But I'll also cover a few other topics salient to Pop Culture that interests me, including old time radio, penny dreadfuls and dime novels, adaptations of classics, and more."

Those wishing to participate in the Beta Test should request an invite by emailing the publisher, Steve Davidson at steve.davidson33@comcast.net.

(Writer) Chuck Dixon; (Art) Esteve Polls; (Cover) Dennis Calero

The Lone Ranger and Tonto ride once again in this classic western tale set against the cruel backdrop of winter on the badlands of North Texas.  Acting alone, the Ranger takes it upon himself to stand in the way of Kiowa war parties who have broken from their reservation in Oklahoma. If the renegades make it far enough into Texas and meet up with their Comanche brothers then the entire Lone Star State will become a battlefield.  The masked rider of the plains and Silver follow the stories of a mythical spirit horse, an animal of legend that’s been sighted by the tribes and incited them to ride the warpath. The Ranger believes that this spirit horse is real and is determined to find it to bring peace to the land once again.

Written by Chris Roberson, art by Dennis Calero, covers by Alex Ross, Ardian Syaf, Jack Herbert, Stephen Segovia

The Justice Party tightens its grip on the Empire State, and the vigilantes and heroes are preparing to go on the offensive. The Shadow, Miss Fury, Green Hornet, Black Bat and the others have gathered enough evidence to prove that the public officials who have established the new fascist police state are merely the pawns of more sinister forces who lurk unseen. No one has heard from the Spider since he left for Albany to investigate the new governor, and he is feared dead, captured, or worse. And while Green Hornet, Black Terror, Miss Fury, and others join the Shadow in preparing to attack the hidden masters of the Justice Party, two fugitives take to the streets as Zorro and the Black Bat.

MERCILESS: THE RISE OF MING TP - Coming in March!
(Writer) Scott Beatty; (Art) Ron Adrian; (Cover) Alex Ross

Set decades before the would-be interplanetary conqueror turned his attentions upon an unwitting Earth, MERCILESS chronicles the formative years of Prince Ming, heir to all he surveys and all the fabulous peoples of distant Mongo, a planet politically divided by its divergent species and as physically fractured as the ring of shattered moons orbiting it. Disillusioned by his father's rule and anxious to begin his own dynasty, Ming engineers events to seat himself upon the imperial throne of Mongo, sooner rather than later. Ming's ascent to power is as much a descent into his own depravity as he strikes alliances and sparks wars of expansion to cement his claim, finding time for love (or lust, depending on one's point-of-view) and uniting all of Mongo under one rule... HIS. Ming's adversaries underestimate him at their peril. He has a plan. In fact, he ALWAYS has a plan... and it doesn't end on Mongo. Armed with mindboggling weapons of planetary destruction, Ming the Merciless won't settle for anything less than dominion over his world... and every galaxy in the known universe!

This volume collects the compelte 4-issue mini-series by Scott Beatty and Ron Adriam along with all of the fully painted covers by Akex Ross as well as sketches and character designs by Alex Ross.

Jim Anthony: MRS. BIG / COLD TURKEY

JIM ANTHONY SUPER DETECTIVE: Son of a Comanche princess with powers of deduction greater than the average man. Originally published in Super-Detective pulp magazine for February and April 1942, we present two of his stories.

MRS BIG — It all started as a joke, but in the end it spelled death—horrible death for those who had earned the hatred of a crazy woman torturer. From Jim Anthony’s first glimpse of one girl victim, he took more than a casual detective’s interest in solving the case.

COLD TURKEY — Jim was impatient of going to one night club after another—until he met murder in one of them. And the case of the smuggled diamonds seemed strangely tied up with the fate of a small conquered nation, trying to oust an oppressor. And with the case of a jealous woman trying to avenge her lover.

Operator #5
The Invisible Empire

Now available!

Before James Bond was ever imagined, Jimmy Christopher was the bravest, boldest and best-equipped secret agent any nation ever had!

From out of the pages of Operator #5 magazine steps a dramatic hero who pits himself against threats to national security from all origins. Whether it's subversive internal menace, or a full-scale invasion from an enemy land, James Christopher stood ready and resolute to defeat it.

In 1934, with Hitler consolidating power in Germany and the Japanese Empire on

the rise in Asia, young pulp publisher Harry Steeger decided that the American public was ready for a magazine chronicling the exploits of an undercover agent dedicated to defending the United States from foreign aggressors. With his editors, Steeger came up with a title, Secret Service Operator #5, and a cover depicting a masked terrorist fleeing an exploding White House. Over this loomed the resourceful hero, blazing away with a .45 automatic. His job: to defeat a new invasion of the United States—every month!

James Christopher did not technically belong to the U. S. Secret Service. He was a top agent for an America's unnamed Intelligence Service. It was in his blood. His father, John Christopher, retired from the same agency years before. Answerable only to his superior, Z-7, and carrying a letter from the President of the United States identifying him as Operator #5, Jimmy Christopher played for keeps. He carried a rapier sewn into his belt, and in a golden skull hanging from his watch-chain was a reservoir of poison to be taken in the event of capture.

Aided by a small group of trusted assistants, ranging from his twin sister Nan to scrappy street urchin Tim Donovan, Jimmy Christopher was a one-man defense force. Proud and patriotic, expert marksman and swordsman, he was the best America has to offer in a time of severe trial.

Originally written by master pulpsmith Frederick C. Davis, the Operator #5 series was a clear forerunner of the spy and espionage genre, which exploded in the 1960s when President John F. Kennedy happened remark that he enjoyed reading Ian Fleming's James Bond novels. The first Bond film, Dr. No, was released in 1962. Soon, America was surrounded by spies. The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Our Man Flint, and Nick Carter, Killmaster were just a few of the most prolific. Jimmy Christopher was on the job a generation before them all, blazing the espionage trail, and keeping America safe from fascism and other wicked isms.

Unseen, impregnable, the strange war engine of a foreign power hovered over America, waiting the fatal moment to hurl death upon a thousand cities and towns. Foredoomed to destruction and desolation before the ravaging hordes of the Yellow Empire, bleak despair gripped the nation’s millions. And then men held their breath in agonizing hope — as Operator 5, single-handed, seized the last grim chance to save the United States!

Into this unprecedented crisis plunged Jimmy Christopher. Only one man, but a man who embodied the American spirit—and stands prepared to perish to protect his country.

This Total Pulp Experience audiobook contains all three stories from the second issue issue of Operator #5 Magazine, May 1934.
Read by Richard Epcar. 6 hours. $23.98 Audio CDs / $11.99 Download.

Terror Tales John H. Knox
In 1934 a new type of magazine was born. Known by various names — the shudder pulps, mystery-terror magazines, horror-terror magazines — weird menace is the sub-genre term that has survived today. Terror Tales magazine was one of the most popular. It came from Popular Publications, whose publisher Harry Steeger was inspired by the Grand Guignol theater of Paris. This breed of pulp story survived less than ten years, but in that time, they became infamous, even to this day. This ebook contains a collection of stories from the pages of Terror Tales magazine, all written by John H. Knox, reissued for today’s readers in electronic format.

Captain Zero #2: Mark of Zero!
Against a strange murder-master who held first a neighborhood, then a city, and then an entire, powerful nation in an icy paralyzing grip of fear, Captain Zero must wage a grim final battle — with only the guns of a small midnight patrol, that would seek him for a target at the first crimson streak of dawn!

The Black Bat - Coming in 2013!
The iconic character, Black Bat, makes his return to comics with a Dynamite series, written by Brian Buccellato, the current acclaimed co-writer of DC Comics' The Flash!  Black Bat joins a long-line of successful pulp relaunches at Dynamite, and this series guarantees to be just as successful.  Look for Black Bat in 2013!

"I'm really excited to have the opportunity to put my stamp on classic character whose origin dates back to the time of such greats as The Shadow, The Phantom, and The Green Hornet," says writer Brian Buccellato.  "The Black Bat is had the misfortune of sharing the same monicker as arguably the most beloved superhero of all time. Interestingly though, he was a contemporary of and not a copycat or "rip-off" of The Dark Knight. Tony Quinn's origin and motivations were very unique to him. In fact, his origin and costume design influenced some VERY well-known comic characters that came after him."

TWO GRAVES: An Agent Pendergast Novel

Now available!

After his wife, Helen, is brazenly abducted before his eyes, Special Agent Pendergast furiously pursues the kidnappers, chasing them across the country and into Mexico. But then, things go terribly, tragically wrong; the kidnappers escape; and a shattered Pendergast retreats to his New York apartment and shuts out the world.

But when a string of bizarre murders erupts across several Manhattan hotels--perpetrated by a boy who seems to have an almost psychic ability to elude capture--NYPD Lieutenant D'Agosta asks his friend Pendergast for help. Reluctant at first, Pendergast soon discovers that the killings are a message from his wife's kidnappers. But why a message? And what does it mean?

When the kidnappers strike again at those closest to Pendergast, the FBI agent, filled anew with vengeful fury, sets out to track down and destroy those responsible. His journey takes him deep into the trackless forests of South America, where he ultimately finds himself face to face with an old evil that-rather than having been eradicated-is stirring anew... and with potentially world-altering consequences.

Confucius once said: "Before you embark on a journey of revenge, first dig two graves."
Pendergast is about to learn the hard way just how true those words still ring..

Now available!

Bringing the best of Classic Pulp to Fans today, Radio Archives presents Will Murray’s Pulp Classic’s line of top notch Pulp Fiction eBooks!

New to Will Murray’s Pulp Classics, two new eBooks featuring the epic exploits of America’s best-loved pulp-fiction character of the 1930s and 1940s: The Spider — Master of Men!

Richard Wentworth — the dread Spider, nemesis of the Underworld, lone wolf anti-crime crusader who always fights in that grim no-man’s land between Law and lawless — returns in vintage pulp tales of the Spider, reissued for today’s readers in electronic format.

Total Pulp Experience. These exciting pulp adventures have been beautifully reformatted for easy reading as an eBook and features every story, every editorial, and every column of the original pulp magazine.

The Spider #46: The Man Who Ruled in Hell
First victim of that incredibly horrible fate, death by the Red Hand, was Laskar, the Spider's trusted agent in the underworld. Ben Laskar's dying gasp warned Richard Wentworth — too late! For even as his loyal ally fell, a cunning trap closed swiftly on Wentworth and held him fast — branded a cop-killer, handcuffed, guarded while a new terror tortured the city. Killing and looting, the criminal hordes of the Red Hand — maddened by blood and wealth — extended their criminal reign over the entire city. Then the blood-red fist closed again to grip Nita van Sloan... How could Wentworth, even with the Spider's guile, pierce that double cordon of grim-faced, trigger-tense police and ruthless assassins — to reach and slay the mystery man who wore the gory glove? Total Pulp Experience. These exciting pulp adventures have been beautifully reformatted for easy reading as an eBook and features every story, every editorial, and every column of the original pulp magazine.

The Spider #47: Slaves of the Black Monarch
Death leaped from those chattering tommy-guns, scattering New York's jurymen like broken, bloodied dolls — when the Scarred Hand ordained that all felons be freed and Justice thrown into the discard. Judges, district attorneys, mayors faced annihilation by that cyclonic upheaval, and none knew safety while its chill wind swept the streets of great cities. What unbelievable force directed this ruthless assault upon Law and Order and announced that not even one criminal should be convicted? Deep down in that maelstrom of chaos and anarchy — where was that incredible, baleful secret spring? The police were powerless, all authority at an end, and Civilization, itself, cried brokenly for a savior. Richard Wentworth, alone, heeded that agonized call and, in the murky light of a secret den, he was transforming himself into the Spider — to wage battle against that brain which must be killed twice! Total Pulp Experience. These exciting pulp adventures have been beautifully reformatted for easy reading as an eBook and features every story, every editorial, and every column of the original pulp magazine. As a special bonus, Will Murray has written an introduction especially for this series of eBooks.

Operator 5 #23: Rockets from Hell
New England had fallen to the invaders without resistance, and the rest of America was stripped of defenses, trembling at the advance of the godless, soulless ravagers. Jimmy Christopher — known in the Secret Service only as Operator 5 — was ridiculed to scorn by strong-headed, short-sighted authorities, handicapped senselessly by them in his struggle to save our nation. With Tim Donovan a tortured captive, with Diane Elliot doubting her own loyalty, with the United States apparently doomed, Operator 5 wagers his life in an almost hopeless one-man counter-attack! Total Pulp Experience. These exciting pulp adventures have been beautifully reformatted for easy reading as an eBook and features every story, every editorial, and every column of the original pulp magazine. As a special bonus, Will Murray has written an introduction especially for this series of eBooks.

Terror Tales: G T Fleming-Roberts
In 1934 a new type of magazine was born. Known by various names — the shudder pulps, mystery-terror magazines, horror-terror magazines — weird menace is the sub-genre term that has survived today. Terror Tales magazine was one of the most popular. It came from Popular Publications, whose publisher Harry Steeger was inspired by the Grand Guignol theater of Paris. This breed of pulp story survived less than ten years, but in that time, they became infamous, even to this day. This ebook contains a collection of stories from the pages of Terror Tales magazine, all written by G T Fleming-Roberts, reissued for today’s readers in electronic format.

Captain Zero #1: City of Deadly Sleep
Three sinister slay-rides turned a giant metropolis into a city patrolled by terror... helpless, save for one man — the fabulous Master of Midnight, whose strange cloak of invisibility was, at the same time, a gift of the gods — and a curse of the Devil!

SENTINELS: METALGOD
The Next Epic Adventure in
“The World’s Greatest Superhero Novel Series” Begins Here!
Now available!

White Rocket Books proudly announces the release in trade paperback format of Van Allen Plexico’s SENTINELS: METALGOD, the newest adventure in the famed and very popular cosmic superhero saga!

Debuting in 2008 with Sentinels: When Strikes the Warlord from Swarm Press, Plexico’s Sentinels series has built a worldwide base of enthusiastic fans eager for another installment in the action-packed series.  Now the new volume has arrived—as has perhaps the deadliest threat yet encountered: Metalgod!

In the wake of the Worldmind/Stellarax Crisis, what’s left of the team has scattered to the four winds. Brachis and Mondrian cross the depths of space in a desperate attempt to stave off galactic civil war, while Pulsar and her sister work to assemble an entirely new team of heroes back on Earth. Time is short, the supply of heroes is shorter, and no one is exactly who he appears to be.  And into this precarious situation arrives the deadly and enigmatic mechanoid from space—the being known only as METALGOD!

Presenting the first volume in the new SENTINELS story arc—a great “jumping-on point”—where action and adventure await at every turn, and nothing is quite what it seems!  Interior illustrations are by fan-favorite series artist Chris Kohler, who also takes over cover art duties this time around, assisted with fantastic color work by the incomparable Sarah White.

“This book accomplishes several major things,” says Plexico of METALGOD. “We get to see Pulsar fighting to become the leader everyone hopes she can be, attempting to assemble an entirely new team before another disaster strikes—as you know it will.  We see Esro and Mondy assuming their rightful roles as members of the Elites, dealing with a coming galactic war. There’s action, danger, and even comedy—and we get what I think is the biggest shock ending in the series to date.  Better buckle up!”
"I've already bought the next Sentinels book! Van's got me hooked!" says Percival Constantine, author of Fallen.

"Spectacular.  Action-packed. Imaginative and wonderful,” adds Pulp Fiction Reviews.  “If you grew up loving the Avengers comic books from Marvel, these books are for you in a big, big way.”

The previous volume, Stellarax, was nominated for Author, Artist, and Novel of the Year by PulpArk.

White Rocket Books is a leader in the New Pulp movement, publishing exciting action and adventure novels and anthologies since 2005, in both traditional and electronic formats.   White Rocket books have hit the Amazon.com Top 15-by-Genre and reached as high as #2 on the New Pulp Bestsellers List, and have garnered praise from everyone from Marvel Comics Vice-President Tom Brevoort to Kirkus Reviews.

SENTINELS: METALGOD is a $14.95, 6x9 format trade paperback from White Rocket Books.
Previous volumes in the series are available in two omnibus paperbacks, and each is a $2.99 e-book for Kindle and other e-readers.

The Ape Man's Brother by Joe Lansdale
Ebook Edition now available!

Orphaned by a plane crash, raised in the wilds of a lost world hidden somewhere beneath a constant mist, The Big Guy and his ape-man brother from another mother are living a life of danger amongst rampaging dinosaurs, giant birds, warring ape tribes, and all manner of deadly beasts. It’s a wonderful existence for someone like The Big Guy and his furry brother, except for the flea problem. Then an expedition of explorers from the outside turn his world inside out. Or rather a very blonde beauty called The Woman does. It leads to his and his ape brother being convinced to fly to New York by zeppelin, where they become the toast of the town. They even make Hollywood movies. It seems perfect. At least until The Big Guy does something that comes quite naturally to him in the wild, but leads to public humiliation in this new found world. To make matters worse, his ape brother has grown to not only love the pampered life, meals he doesn’t have to chase down, good cigars, fine wines and statuesque women, he’s come to like the Wrong Woman.

Changes are afoot. They lead to a return to the world beneath the mist, and a deadly and unexpected encounter with a foe that is in many ways far worse than any dinosaur. Envy, jealousy, greed, fleas, and pyramids under the mist, are all part of this rollicking novella of the sort only Joe R. Lansdale could write. And don’t forget dinosaurs.

Beb Books - Now available!
Just in time for Christmas,
two new reprints from the famous Secret Agent X series.
Secret Agent X: SLAVES OF THE SCORPION
Secret Agent X: SATAN'S SYNDICATE

Beb Books are printed on 8.5 x 11 inch paper, side stapled with a color cover and all illustrations from the original publication (if there are any). Beb Books are set in new type for easy reading.

THE UNPRETENTIOUS PHILOSOPHER or,
The Rare Man, A Physical, Chemical, Political and Moral Work Dedicated to Scientists

by Louis-Guillaume de La Follie
adapted by Brian Stableford

In 1775, industrial chemist Louis-Guillaume de La Follie wrote The Unpretentious Philosopher, in which an inhabitant of Mercury who employs a spaceship powered by electricity to undertake a voyage of exploration to Earth, becomes stranded on our planet when his ship crashes. This forces him to embark on a long search for the exotic materials required to repair it, giving him an opportunity to communicate his advanced understanding of science to an inquisitive Earthling.

La Follie was the first writer of contes philosophiques to put the "hard" sciences of physics and chemistry at the heart of his endeavor. His ambitious purpose is to communicate new scientific ideas by using entertaining fictional devices. The Unpretentious Philosopher is truly a plea in favor of "science fiction", a concept that would not be invented for generations to come.

THE GOLDEN ROCK
by Théo Varlet
adapted by Brian Stableford

Shortly after the end of World War I, the fall of an asteroid in the Atlantic causes a tidal wave and gives birth to a new island. An expedition sent by the French government discovers that it is made of iron... and gold! The exploitation of the new island could upset the world's economic order and start a new World War, as forces from all across the globe converge upon the "Golden Rock."

Penned in 1927 before the Wall Street crash of 1929 by the great Théo Varlet (The Martian Epic, The Xenobiotic Invasion, Timeslip Troopers), The Golden Rock is both a homage to Jules Verne and a novel with its finger firmly on the pulse of the real political issues and concerns of the 1930s, which it addresses with admirable verve and perspicacity.

This edition also includes three more genre stories by Varlet.

TALES OF THE SHADOWMEN: LA VIE EN NOIR
edited by J-M. & R. Lofficier

Edith Piaf liked to sing about la vie en rose, "life in pink," in other words, life seen through rose-tinted glasses. This volume of Tales of the Shadowmen is another kind of song altogether, one dedicated to la vie en noir, the darker side of life. And what could be darker than the Black Coats, that sinister brotherhood of criminals and their legendary treasure, a malignant self-aware entity that is the embodiment of greed and avarice?

But the Treasure of the Black Coats is not the only dark facet of life covered in this volume. You will also find 20 stories about the evil Fantômas and the mysterious Yellow Shadow, the crafty Doctor Cornelius and the megalomania-cal Sun Koh, the ruthless Irma Vep and the frightful Bride of Frankenstein; in these pages, you will read tales of vampires, creatures and zombies, and things from otherworldly realms, and likely gasp at the most monstrous couple of parents ever imagined-how is that for the dark side of Life?

“The Menace of Mysta” was the tenth installment of Austin Briggs’ daily Flash Gordon comic strip serial for King Features Syndicate. Originally published between March 27 and April 25, 1944, “The Menace of Mysta” is a very brief episode that starts off with Flash and Dale and their nameless Elvin guide crossing Lost Lake when they pass through a patch of fog and become embroiled in a spider web. A giant spider rises from the lake to attack them. Flash dispatches the creature easily enough and the trio soon comes ashore on a strange beach where they quickly find themselves among the invisible kingdom of Queen Mysta.

TWO GRAVES: An Agent Pendergast Novel

Arriving in bookstores December 11!

Hard Case Crime - Coming in February!

SEDUCTION OF THE INNOCENT
Max Allan Collins
Cover art by Glen Orbik

COMIC BOOKS ARE CORRUPTING AMERICA’S YOUTH!

Or so the esteemed Dr. Werner Frederick would have people believe—people like the Congressmen holding hearings on banning violent crime and horror "funny books." And when the crusade provokes a most un-funny murder, Jack Starr—comics syndicate troubleshooter—has no shortage of suspects. Was it the knife-wielding juvenile delinquent or the naked seductress? Perhaps a frustrated publisher or an outraged cartoonist. Or was it a comic book reader...?

Inspired by the real-life 1950s witch-hunt against Tales From the Crypt publisher EC Comics, SEDUCTION OF THE INNOCENT pulls back the curtain for an insider’s view of the history of comics—and features more than a dozen brand new illustrations in the classic EC style by comic book legend Terry Beatty!

First publication ever!
In addition to his work for Hard Case Crime, Collins is famous as the long-time scripter of the Dick Tracy comic strip and comic books such as Batman and Ms. Tree

PARKER THE HUNTER Softcover - Now available!
Darwyn Cooke

The Hunter is the story of a man who hits New York head-on like a shotgun blast to the chest. Betrayed by the woman he loved and double-crossed by his partner in crime, Parker makes his way cross-country with only one thought burning in his mind-to coldly exact his revenge and reclaim what was taken from him!

Richard Stark (AKA Donald Westlake) was a master writer of crime fiction and Parker is arguably his greatest Creation-having been featured in more than a dozen novels and several well-regarded films (including Point Blank with Lee Marvin and Payback with Mel Gibson), and an upcoming one starring Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez that will be released this fall.

Master storyteller Darwyn Cooke has won nearly every award available to comics creators. His DC: The New Frontier was turned into an Emmy-nominated animated feature. The Hunter is the first in a series of Parker graphic novels that Cooke is adapting, the first two earning the comics Auteur more Eisner and Harvey awards for his already crowded mantle.

Planetary Stories - Issue #27 is coming soon!
SEVERAL changes on www.planetarystories.com.  There are three different covers, replacing the older ones. So, you say, what's the big deal about that?  Well, ONE of them - Wonderlust - is the cover of the NEXT Wonderlust! More, the entire 27th issue of Planetary Stories (all three, Planetary Stories, Pulp Spirit and Wonderlust) focus on 'Fun'.

For instance, the story behind that great cover illo by Jose Sanchez, On The Way, begins with Nerek ('Our Hero') saying to his superior officer, "You bellowed?"  There's lots of action, but 'fun' is the theme.

In other stories we have a purple-skinned driver of a space taxi tearing around the universe, and the host of a kid's show saving humanity, and...  Well, you'll see. www.planetarystories.com/OnTheWay.pdf will get you to Nerek right now.  Which is ANOTHER change...

Pulpville Press - Now available!
The Lane Fleming collection of early pistols and revolvers was one of the best in the country. When Fleming was found dead on the floor of his locked gunroom, a Confederate-made Colt-type percussion .36 revolver in his hand, the coroner's verdict was "death by accident." But Gladys Fleming had her doubts. Enough at any rate to engage Colonel Jefferson Davis Rand-better known just as Jeff-private detective and a pistol-collector himself, to catalogue, appraise, and negotiate the sale of her late husband's collection.

There were a number of people who had wanted the collection. The question was: had anyone wanted it badly enough to kill Fleming? And if so, how had he done it? Here is a mystery, told against the fascinating background of old guns and gun-collecting, which is rapid-fire without being hysterical, exciting without losing its contact with reason, and which introduces a personable and intelligent new private detective. It is a story that will keep your nerves on a hair trigger even if you don't know the difference between a cased pair of Paterson .34's and a Texas .40 with a ramming-lever.

Pulpville Press - Now available!
Abaria and Ofrid were opposing nations on Tarth, twin-planet to Earth lying beyond the sun. Abaria defeated Ofrid by treachery and leveled the nation to the ground, Retoc of Abaria killing Queen Evalla of Ofrid after fiendish torture. But Portox, the Ofridian scientist, transported Bram Forest, Evalla's infant son to Earth where the prince grew to manhood in suspended animation and then returned to Tarth-a full grown man-to avenge his mother.

As he arrives, Retoc has just slain Jlomec, brother of Bontare and Volna, rulers of powerful Nadia. The slaying is witnessed by Ylia, the Brown Virgin, who saves Bram Forest from death after Retoc wounds him seriously. While she nurses Bram, Retoc is hunting for her, fearing she will tell Bontare that he killed Jlomec. Retoc has no fear of Volna, as she is conspiring with him to rule Tarth.

Written under the pennames of Ivar Jorgensen and Adam Chase (actual authors were Randall Garrett and Milton Lesser).

Pulp Magazines Project - Now online!
The Pulp Magazines Project is an open-access digital archive dedicated to the study and preservation of one of the twentieth century's most influential literary & artistic forms: the all-fiction pulpwood magazine. The Project also provides information on the history of this important but long neglected medium, along with biographies of pulp authors, artists, and their publishers.

At the heart of the Project's mission is the archive itself. In summer 2011, it began with a modest library of five representative first-generation pulp titles from the early twentieth century. Over time, the archive will expand, new magazines will be digitized, and contextual materials added. Eventually, the archive will feature a broad range of pre-1923 titles, post-1923 titles where copyright has lapsed, and full volume runs of select titles from 1896 to 1946.

The Project is dedicated to fostering ties between communities of collectors, fans, and academics devoted to pulp magazines, and will offer opportunities for research and collaboration to both scholars and enthusiasts alike. We will provide information on upcoming conferences and conventions, and promote new working relationships between academics and the hundreds of pulp fans and collectors beyond the college and university.

During his ferocious first year fighting crime, The Spider faced the most amazing array of supercriminals ever spawned. The Black Death. The Red Mask. The Tarantula. The Fly. Few were as memorable as the 20th Century corsair called Captain Kidd. She—yes, she!—embarked on a campaign of cruelty unmatched in pulp history.

It began with the torture-killing of a innocent young boy—a loyal member of the Spider Club. The weapon employed was a knife with eerie electrical properties. Discovering the hapless body, Richard Wentworth vowed to avenge this insult to The Spider's power.

But Captain Kidd struck first! When a train roars into Grand Central Station, out of control and crashing to a brutal halt, authorities discover that everyone aboard, from the engineer and crew to the passengers, are cold corpses—electrified by a weird new weapon called the Green Fire!

Out of this rolling charnel house come the first clues to the Pirates—a roving band of modern-day buccaneers out to pillage greater New York. At their head, the deadly woman who has taken the feared name of Captain Kidd.

Once again, RadioArchives.com has selected one of the most electrifying Spider novels ever written for an equally-electrifying audiobook. Nick Santa Maria again takes on the dual role of Richard Wentworth, aka The Spider, Master of Men, for this powerful new entry in the Will Murray Pulp Classics series. Robin Riker enchants as Nita van Sloan and gives a powerful performance as the wiley Captain Kidd. Producer Roger Rittner brings his superb directorial expertise to the proceedings, which are enhanced by sound effects and a full musical score. So far, our audience tells us that each Spider audiobook has outdone the one before. The Corpse Cargo is no exception.

This Total Pulp Experience audiobook contains all three stories from the tenth issue issue of The Spider Magazine, July 1934. $27.98 Audio CDs / $13.99 Download.

Operator 5 #22: War Dogs of the Green Destroyer
Relentless, unhindered, that eerie, green mist advanced slowly up the Lower Bay like a formless nightmare monster. Deep-bellied vessels which sailed nearby were engulfed in its nebulous depths, and emerged in flames! A wide, devastated path marked its progress across New York City... Etoria, powerful and greedy, the snarling war-dog of the Mediterranean, was striking to cripple America's defenses, preparing ruthlessly to establish the most magnificent empire in history... Operator 5, Ace of the Intelligence, known in private life as Jimmy Christopher, makes the gravest decision of his life. Hampered by cowardly, official red-tape, he resigns from the Service. Marked as the enemy's first victim, he carries the battle, single-handed, across the ocean and into the Etorian dictator's own guarded stronghold!Total Pulp Experience. These exciting pulp adventures have been beautifully reformatted for easy reading as an eBook and features every story, every editorial, and every column of the original pulp magazine. As a special bonus, Will Murray has written an introduction especially for this series of eBooks.

Captain Future #26: Earthmen No More
Captain Future… the Ace of Space! Born and raised on the moon, Curt Newton survived the murder of his scientist parents to become the protector of the galaxy known as Captain Future. With his Futuremen, Grag the giant robot, Otho, the shape-shifting android and Simon Wright, the Living Brain, he patrols the solar system in the fastest space ship ever constructed, the Comet, pursuing human monsters and alien threats to Earth and her neighbor planets. This is one of the legendary "final seven" Captain Future tales. After a run of twenty pulp issues, the quarterly magazine closed. But that was not the end of Captain Future. He returned in a series of short stories published in Startling Stories magazine, beginning with the January 1950 issue. Edmond Hamilton, creator of Captain Future and author of the majority of the full-length novels, returned to pen seven more Captain Future stories. His style had matured, as had his original audience, and these final seven Captain Future stories are considered to be some of his best. Captain Future left the pages of Startling Stories with the May 1951 issue, but editors left open the possibility that Captain Future might return some day. True fans are still waiting. Until then, Captain Future returns in these vintage pulp tales, reissued for today's readers in electronic format.

Terror Tales: Arthur Leo Zagat, Book 2
In 1934 a new type of magazine was born. Known by various names — the shudder pulps, mystery-terror magazines, horror-terror magazines — weird menace is the sub-genre term that has survived today. Terror Tales magazine was one of the most popular. It came from Popular Publications, whose publisher Harry Steeger was inspired by the Grand Guignol theater of Paris. This breed of pulp story survived less than ten years, but in that time, they became infamous, even to this day. This ebook contains a collection of stories from the pages of Terror Tales magazine, all written by Arthur Leo Zagat, reissued for today’s readers in electronic format.

The Mysterious Wu Fang #4: The Case of the Suicide Tomb
"With the secret of the plague of Suicide Tomb, I shall control all men and their destinies. I have arranged my bargain with death and the devil; now men shall do my bidding." Thus spoke Wu Fang, secure in his Dragon's Lair, surrounded by his ministry of murder!... Not far away, innocent of the Yellow Fiend's purpose, was the only man who dare combat him — Val Kildare, watching and waiting; ready for the Crime Beast to show his hand!

Inspired by the Asian menace of Fu Manchu, Harry Steeger, publisher of Popular Publications, decided to publish a villain-centered pulp magazine series. And so, The Mysterious Wu Fang was born.  The series was written by Robert J. Hogan, who also wrote for G-8 and his Battle Aces and The Secret Six.  But after seven stories, the series was ended.  An eighth story "The Case of the Living Poison" was planned, but never was printed.
