Airship 27 - A NEW SHERLOCK HOLMES COLLECTION!
Airship 27 Productions and Cornerstone Book Publishers are very excited to announce the release of their newest title, SHERLOCK HOLMES, CONSULTING DETECTIVE Volume One

Victorian England, a time of historical significance as the world was poised expectantly for the coming wonders and terrors of the new century. Amidst this atmosphere of anticipation and intrigue, one man emerged as a beacon of logic and cold, calculating reason in an unsettling time: Mr. Sherlock Holmes, Consulting Detective.  Now he returns in five brand new mysteries by four of today’s finest writers.

A famous soccer player is found dead in the club house.  An unidentified stowaway is murdered aboard a U.S. Navy warship, while another man is found asphyxiated in an empty, locked room.  These are several of the twisted puzzles challenging the Baker Street sleuth as he once again takes up the hunt on the fog ridden streets of London accompanied, as always, by his faithful ally, Dr.Watson.

Writers Aaron Smith, Andrew Salmon, Van Allen Plexico, and I.A. Watson have set forth exciting new mysteries done in the traditional style of the original Holmes stories by his creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.  There are no space aliens here nor howling werewolves, simply good old fashion whodunits.  So arm yourself for danger and all manner of villainy as once again, the game is afoot!

This premier volume features a dramatic cover by artist Mark Maddox, with interior illustrations and design by Rob Davis.  Edited by Airship 27 Prod. founder, Ron Fortier.

“Sherlock Holmes is clearly the most beloved fictional character ever created,” Fortier offered in discussing the new book.  “We’ve assembled a collection of five terrific stories we are sure will entertain Holmes fans around the world.”

Airship 27 Productions produces new pulp novels and anthologies featuring classic pulp heroes.  Their publisher is Cornerstone Book Publishers of New Orleans and their titles are available though all major book distributors.  Airship 27, pulp fiction for a new generation!

A book edited by Fabrice TORTEY

Ordering information available soon!

Solomon Kane, El Borak, Bran Mak Morn, Kull the Barbarian King, Conan the Cimmerian and many other characters, all unforgettable creations that sprang from the fertile mind of Robert Ervin Howard.  A pioneer of heroic fantasy, the Texan writer has excelled in many genres: tales of adventure, fantasy and horror, sports and western stories, poetry.  At the time when Two-Gun Bob finds a second life in France, the Éditions de l'Œil du Sphinx are pleased to pay homage to Robert E. Howard and display his many facets as the man, the boxer, the storyteller, the poet.

Renowned specialists and dedicated fans of Howard have all gathered to explore the epic universe of the Cross Plains Bard.

This opus, under the direction of Fabrice Tortey, opens on an overview of Robert E. Howard’s life, completed by more specific biographical studies by acknowledged experts such as Rusty Burke with La dernière lettre / The Note, Glenn Lord with Herbert Klatt: le quatrième mousquetaire / Herbert Klatt: the Fourth Musketeer and The Junto, or Chris Gruber who shares with us his passion both for boxing and the creator of Steve Costigan in Howard et la fabrique de glace / Howard at the Ice House.

Two prose fragments and two poems by Robert E. Howard are published here for the first time in France:
Le Tueur /
The Slayer
Sous l‘éclat impitoyable du soleil… / Beneath the Glare…
Les Cellules du Colisée / The Cells of the Coliseum

LONE JUSTICE: CRASH! DEBUTS AS COMIC-CON EXCLUSIVE ASHCAN
Limited edition, full-color preview of ComicMix/IDW Publishing graphic novel

Being a superhero isn’t just dangerous work, it’s also very expensive. Imagine a recession-era Batman without Bruce Wayne’s fortune or Iron Man without Tony’s Stark’s billions. Their respective crime-fighting enterprises would be very different – or perhaps all together grind to a halt – if their money was to simply disappear.

Just like many Americans in the past year, that’s exactly what has happened to Lone Justice, the pulp-style action-adventure hero created by writer-artist Mark Wheatley (Breathtaker, Mars) and writer Robert Tinnell (Feast of the Seven Fishes, Sight Unseen). The title character of their high profile online, serialized graphic novel Lone Justice: Crash experienced the devastating financial loss of the Great Depression, but he didn’t lose his drive to keep fighting crime…regardless of the consequences.

Lauded by Ain’t It Cool News and other outlets, the series can be found online in free, weekly installments at ComicMix.com. When completed it will be released in print as a graphic novel by IDW Publishing. Fans who want to sample the action, grit and intrigue of Lone Justice on the printed page for the first time, though, will be able to find it in the form of a limited edition, full-color ashcan available exclusively at the Insight Studios Group booth at Comic-Con International: San Diego, Wednesday, July 22 through Sunday, July 26, 2009.

With a print of just 200 copies, the full-color, limited edition contains the first 24 pages of Lone Justice: Crash!, setting the stage for the epic adventure through the action and turmoil that follow.  With a cover price of $10, it is signed and numbered by Wheatley, who will be at the Insight Studios Group booth at the convention. Copies will be sold on a first come, first served basis at booth #2308 in the Independent Press Pavilion.

“We’ve received tremendous fan feedback from the online incarnation of Lone Justice: Crash, and I really enjoy the immediacy of it,” Wheatley said. “This ashcan is the first time any of this material will see print, and that brings an excitement all its own.”

Lone Justice: Crash! is the second time Wheatley and Tinnell have teamed up for a ComicMix serialization. Their first effort, EZ Street, the tale of two creative brothers, was nominated for a Harvey Award. It also contained a comic-within-a-comic aspect, as it featured Lone Justice as one creation of its central characters. Despite the obvious connection between the tales, however, both graphic novels can be enjoyed entirely independently from the other.

“Given our title, Lone Justice: Crash!, it was difficult to resist calling this the Lone Justice: Crashcan, but life is confusing enough as it is,” Wheatley laughed. “So, c’mon by the booth at Comic-Con and pick up of the Lone Justice: Crash! Ashcan!”

They were called scribes, word slingers, hacks and penny-a-worders. But perhaps the most favored term, especially among the men and women who labored for the bloody pulps, was fictioneer—a fiction writer, especially a prolific creator of commercial or pulp fiction.

Warlock Vance as they read excerpts from THE TERROR OF FU MANCHU, THE MISSING NARRATIVE OF NEPTUNE and other exciting pulp yarns. They’ll also be available for questions, critiques and good, old-fashioned schmoozing.

Written by Timothy Truman, penciled by Tomas Giorello and Richard Corben, colored by Jose Villarrubia.
Conan Volume 7: Cimmeria marks a transitional period in young Conan's life, as he spurns civilization -- with its turncoats and legal trappings -- and returns to the beloved, brutal country of Cimmeria, where he was born and raised. The dangers found in the snowy mountain passes of his barbaric homeland are a welcome change from the mind games and treachery Conan encountered in the cities of the East, but there are unfortunate lessons in treachery to be learned here, too. When a tentative truce with the Aesir is threatened by the actions of Caollan, the first woman Conan ever loved, Conan again finds himself at the heart of a larger conflict that will test not only his physical strength and cunning mind‹but his passionate heart as well.

ÉCHOS DE CIMMÉRIE: HOMMAGE À ROBERT ERVIN HOWARD, 1906 – 1936
(ECHOES OF CIMMERIA, HOMAGE TO ROBERT ERVIN HOWARD)
A book edited by Fabrice TORTEY

Available next week - ordering information available soon!

Comme un bruit sourd à ma porte / A Dull Sound as of Knocking

Night Shade Books: Collected Fantasies of Clark Ashton Smith Volume 4
Shipping the end of June!

The Maze of the Enchanter is the fourth volume of the five volume Collected Fantasies series. Editors Scott Connors and Ron Hilger have compared original manuscripts, various typescripts, published editions, and Smith's notes and letters, in order to prepare a definitive set of texts.

This series presents Smith's fiction chronologically, based on composition rather than publication. The editorial decision to present these finely crafted tales chronologically, as opposed to thematically, was made in order to present Smith's fiction as part of a continuum - Smith's style evolved as he grew older, and gained access to the commercial markets. The ebb and flow of his prose over the course of his lifetime can be charted via the five volumes of this series.

The Maze of the Enchanter includes, in chronological order, all of his stories from "The Mandrakes" (February, 1933) to "The Flower-Women" (May, 1935). This volume also features an introduction, and extensive notes on each story.

THE PULP FACTORY AWARDS
For the past two years, pulp writer/editor Ron Fortier has been moderating the Yahoo Pulp group known as the Pulp Factory.  It is currently made up of thirty-six members, among them writers, artists and devoted pulp fans.  Recently the group decided it was high time to shed a public light on the resurgence of new pulp fiction and art that has exploded across the literary field.

With the advent of such companies as Moonstone Books, Age of Adventure, Black Coat Press, Airship 27 Prod., Wild Cat Books and Altus Press to name a few, there have been hundreds of new pulp short stories and dozens of original pulp novels released in the past few years to warrant serious attention and support.  Yet the older pulp groups and organizations, some of whom do sponsor award programs, continue to recognize only past creators and ignore these talented newcomers who are revitalizing the entire pulp community.  The Pulp Factory Awards were inaugurated to publicly support, encourage and applaud the creation of new pulp fiction and art.

There will be four separate awards handed out annually; Best New Pulp Short Story, Best New Pulp Novel, Best New Pulp Interior Illustrations, and Best New Pulp Cover Art.  Starting in Jan. of 2010, the members of the Pulp Factory will nominate candidates in the four categories and then, after a final ballot is determined, cast their vote.  Winners will be notified and public announcements made.  Windy City Pulp & Paper Convention promoter, Doug Ellis, was thrilled and delighted to offer the 2010 Windy City show as the venue for the first ever Pulp Factory Awards presentation.  The physical award is a small statue in the shape of interconnecting gears with a pen embedded into them; the pen symbolizing both a writing quill and drawing pencil.

In making this announcement, Fortier wanted it made absolutely clear that the Yahoos Pulp Factory group is not affiliated with any one publishing company and all its members are freelancers who have been published by multiple outfits.  All new pulp fiction and art published in 2009, regardless of the source, will be eligible for these awards.  “All of our members are extremely excited about this program and anxious to get it under way,” he said happily in a recent interview.  “We think this is a good thing for all of pulpdom.”

Any person or group wanting more information on The Pulp Factory Awards is asked to contact Fortier directly at (Airship27@comcast.net).  They are very receptive to any positive support in this new venture.

Robert E. Howard - Dark Agnes And Cormac Fitzgeoffrey Next For Del Rey!
Robert E. Howard Properties and Del Rey are glad to announce the next planned book in the Howard library series: “Dark Agnes and Other Historical Adventures”, with planned release in spring 2011.

Following the historical footsteps of “El Borak and Other Desert Adventures”, which takes us to Arabia at the turn of the 20th century, “Dark Agnes” will take readers further back in time, from the time of the Crusades up to 16th century France.

We will follow Cormac Fitzgeoffrey, a half-Irish, half-Norman man of war who follows Richard the Lion-Hearted to 12th century Palestine - Outremer - under the banners of the Third Crusade. We will also meet Agnes de la Fere who when faced with an arranged marriage to a brutal husband in 16th century France cuts the ceremony short with a dagger-stroke and flees. Dark Agnes’ instinctive skill in combat wins her the name of Sword Woman. Her skill is tested on the coast of France where she foils a plot by Britain’s devious Cardinal Wolsey to undermine the French king, and again in the benighted alleys of Chartres, as she faces the vengeance of an executed sorcerer who will not die.

As all books in the Del Rey Howard library series, “Dark Agnes” will be fully illustrated. Announcement of artist will come at a later stage. The book is presently planned for release in spring 2011.

The Del Rey book series presently contains ten books, featuring Howards most well-known characters such as Conan, Kull, Solomon Kane and Bran Mak Morn. There are two volumes of genre-spanning Best of’s and one volume of Howard’s most terrific Horror stories. Presently in production is “El Borak” with a planned release in spring 2010.

Tarzan
BBC News reports that the Musee du Quai Branly in Paris has a new exhibition looking at Tarzan's popularity and influence almost a century after the character was first created. The two-dozen Tarzan novels by American author Edgar Rice Burroughs are not much read any more, but the character remains famous worldwide through television, films and comics.

The Musee du Quai Branly is an important centre for the study of the arts and cultures of Africa, Asia and the Pacific, so an exhibition about a fictional Brit created by an American might seem an odd choice.  In fact the museum's head, Stephane Martin, insists the Tarzan phenomenon is well worth studying. The exhibition runs from from 16 June to 27 September 2009

ART & HISTORY OF AMERICAN POPULAR FICTION SERIES VOLUME 1
The emphasis of this new Series is to specifically target the forgotten or less well known influences on AMERICAN POPULAR FICTION.  This Series is the first of its kind!

Today, the desire of collectors and historians who want to explore the "roots" of Comic history has never before been so prevalent or as timely.  Not long ago, the OVERSTREET COMIC PRICE GUIDE introduced "The Victorian" era of comics and which does include a number of early story papers, comic almanacs which were the forerunner of the comic book.  The dime novel was the “comic book” of its day!

VOLUME 1A
This original introduction issue, Volume 1A, set in the 1880's and '90s, provides explicit background and brings to life all the beautifully portrayed images that can be found in the THE FIVE CENT WIDE AWAKE LIBRARY, as they pertain to FRANK READE Jr. All the images from this exciting series of adventures, those amazing inventions that enthralled more than three generations of fans, can be seen in this new Series book.

The Frank Reade, Jr. stories and images, are very important as they were the first, ongoing, produced for the masses, series to depict Science Fiction in America.  Even today the images of those preconceived "flying ships" and fantastic "land rovers" are still captivating!  All told there are more than 120 images in this book!

These books have sold to such prestigious universities as Princeton University, Northern Illinois, Bowling Green and many other universities and scholars.

Testimonial: David Saunders is a writer and collector in his own right and the son of the great Norman Saunders of Pulp art fame.  In an email to me he states with regard to this new Series book:

I am delighted with your new book! Congratulations!  I can't wait to study it from cover to cover.  It is perfectly designed to highlight the artwork images and I look forward to reading the stories to find out all about the Electric Boat.

I was raised on Winsor McCay illustrations, and there was a series of Little Nemo in Slumberland sailing around the world and up to the Moon and Mars in a dirigible with rows of fans on top that looks exactly like those featured in your book, but McCay's were published more than a decade later, so I finally realized McCay was "quoting" from a popular idea of the Electric Boat!  Who knew!
Best wishes, David Saunders

For those that would like to "sample" one of these early adventure stories there is a very short, "lost" Frank Reade Christmas story reproduced inside.  There is also a brief history of the dime novel and some background on those who were involved with the creation of the WAL series.

The book itself is a perfect bound (soft cover), 8.5" X 11," with a bold color cover and on the paper inside is of very bright, white glossy, stock.

Note: These are of extremely limited supply and will not be reordered;
Original price $20.  If ordered with Volume 1, $10.

VOLUME 1 (2nd printing)
All the images from the FRANK READE WEEKLY can be seen here. There are more than 500 total images! (Close to 200 in color!) Also, there is an in-depth study of the "real" boy inventor (and what happened to him) and of the "real" Steam man, also the original patent with photos of him and of the original steam-man. This invention was the inspiration for the fictional character. Included from 1868 is the super rare image of the “steam-man” first appearance in fiction.  There is only one known complete copy in existence!

Compiling these issues and images is virtually impossible today.

Conan Movie - Marcus Nispel to direct 'Conan' remake!
VARIETY reports that Marcus Nispel has been set by Nu Image/Millennium Films to direct "Conan," ending a nine-year development ordeal to reinvent the Robert E. Howard-created barbarian first immortalized onscreen by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982.

Production on the remake is set to start late this year in Bulgaria and South Africa. Nu Image/Millennium is making the film in a co-production with Lionsgate. Avi Lerner and Joe Gatta are producing with Fredrick Malmberg. Malmberg runs Paradox, the company that holds the rights to "Conan" and the other hero franchises in the Howard library.

The film will be the most financially ambitious ever for Lerner, with a script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, whose credits include "Sahara" and "Cowboys and Aliens."

Paradox originally set the project at Warner Bros. but declined to ink a new rights deal after numerous unsuccessful attempts to make it with directors like Larry and Andy Wachowski and Robert Rodriguez. Malmberg then set it with Lerner in a seven-figure deal with strong progress to production stipulations. Lerner flirted with Brett Ratner last year, but the filmmaker could not commit in a timely fashion and Lerner couldn't wait. That opened the door for Nispel, who'll make "Conan" his third redo, after "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Friday the 13th." For Nispel, "Conan" is a job he has dreamed about since his childhood.

Nispel said he will blend his childhood imaginings of the character with the influence of the famous Conan illustrations by Frank Frazetta, and the influence of such viscerally violent period films as Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto."

Boaz Davidson, George Furla, Henry Winterstern, Trevor Short and Danny Dimfort are executive producers.

John Carter of Mars - To begin shooting this November in Utah starring Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins!
After many years in development, it appears that John Carter of Mars is gearing up to begin production. Finding Nemo and WALL-E director Andrew Stanton will be making his live action feature debut with an adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ 1917 sci-fi fantasy novel  A Princess of Mars. KLS is reporting that Disney has signed a deal to shoot part of the film in Utah.  After the jump I also have exclusive info that Tom Cruise was circling the project for a short period of time.

The screenplay was written by Andrew Stanton and Mark Andrews with some revisions from Michael Chabon (Spider-Man 2). Stanton began interviewing prospective actors in January.

Utah approved up to $5.5 million in tax credits, as Disney expects to spend $28 million in Utah when production begins in November. Stanton has previously stated that he wants to avoid the look and feel of Star Wars or any of its derivatives, and was seeking a “more naturalistic aesthetic.” Utah definitely fits the bill.  Governor’s Office of Economic Development Director Jason Perry says that the production will employ over 400 people full-time for seven-straight months, and that Disney believes the film could become its next big movie series, akin to Pirates of the Caribbean.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER is reporting Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins will star in "John Carter of Mars," the adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs book series that Andrew Stanton is directing for Disney. The story centers on a civil war who veteran finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where his involvement with warring races of the dying planet force him to rediscover his humanity.

Kitsch will play the title character, Carter, while Collins is playing Dejah Thoris, the heir to the throne of Mars' Helium kingdom. Stanton wrote the screenplay with Mark Andrews. Jim Morris and Colin Wilson are producing. Brigham Taylor is overseeing for the studio.

Kitsch, repped by WMA and Untitled, stars on NBC's "Friday Night Lights" and appeared with Collins in "Wolverine." Collins, repped by WME and 3 Arts, also had a recurring gig on HBO's "True Blood."

CONAN THE CIMMERIAN #14 - Coming in September!
Timothy Truman (W/A), Ben Truman (W), Joe Kubert (A), and Joseph Michael Linsner (Cover)

After Conan left Cimmeria and entered into a successful career as a brutal mercenary, he became the leader of Princess Yasmela's Khorajan army. In the calm after a successful campaign, Conan quickly tires of his pampered life as the princess's protector and lover. While Joe Kubert shows us what trouble a restless barbarian can get into on royal palace grounds, Tim Truman takes us back to the Cimmerian village of Conan's youth--where a surviving Skrae creature claws its way toward Fialla, Conan's mother.

* This standalone story, called "Home for the Hunt," has ties to both the "Cimmeria" story arc from 2008 and the current "Black Colossus" arc!

* With a nod to the past and hint at what's to come, this issue is perfect for both longtime readers and for intrigued fans who are looking for a "jumping on" point.

Gotham Pulp Collectors Club - Next meeting is June 13, 2009!
Gotham Pulp Collectors Club
is a club for pulp collectors to meet in the NYC/Metro area.
It meets the 2nd Saturday of every month.

This is the 75th anniversary of the hero pulps with The Phantom, Doc Savage, Nick Carter (in the pulp), Lone Eagle, Spider, G-8, and Moon Man making their debuts.  It's also the 85th anniversary for Weird Tales debut.

All are invited to attend, so, if you have an interest in pulp magazines, please come and share tales of your interest in and collections with other pulp collectors. Some of us will bring representative issues of Doc Savage and Weird Tales to show from our collections and tall tales of how we got these books. All meetings are free and open to the public.

Haffner Press
In production and coming in late-June/July!

HAFFNER PRESS IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE . . .
THE COLLECTED EDMOND HAMILTON  - AUTHORIZED EDITION

Edmond Moore Hamilton (1904-1977) was one of the early pioneers of American science fiction. For fifty years his stories established and popularized many of the tropes in modern science fiction. Later this year, Haffner Press will launch the first salvo in a program authorized by the Estate of Edmond Hamilton to collect all the prose work of this neglected master. All of his science fiction, all the fantasy, all the mysteries--all the stories and novels (including the entire run of the "Captain Future" adventures) will be assembled in this multi-volume set.

• The Metal Giants and Others: The Collected Edmond Hamilton, Volume One
• The Star Stealers: The Complete Tales of the Interstellar Patrol, The Collected Edmond Hamilton, Volume Two
• The Collected Captain Future, Volume One: Captain Future and the Space Emperor

As with all Haffner Press titles, quality is of prime importance.  Each volume of THE COLLECTED EDMOND HAMILTON will be printed on acid-free archival-quality paper with smythe-sewn hardcover bindings using full-cloth covered boards. Full-color dust jackets will reproduce digitally restored covers from the original pulp magazines.

We are currently lining up a stellar group of writers, editors, historians, and friends of Hamilton to provide insightful introductions for each volume.
Keep Watching the Skies and check the Haffner Press website frequently for updates on this project. We have a lot of neat tie-ins to this particular program, and you won't want to miss at thing.

FAKE I.D. by Jason Starr, Cover art by Gregg Kreutz
A New York bar bouncer with dreams of being more, Tommy Russo jumps at the chance to join a horse-owning syndicate. But to do so he’ll have to pony up $10,000—and that’s money he hasn’t got. So what’s an ambitious young man to do? Anything he has to...

July 2009
PASSPORT TO PERIL by Robert B. Parker, Cover art by Gregory Manchess
Decades before Robert Brown Parker began writing his books about Spenser, a man named Robert Bogardus Parker (1905-1955) penned this extraordinary novel of post-war intrigue.

From the corridors and compartments of the Orient Express to the shadowy, ruined streets of Budapest—which he saw firsthand as a foreign correspondent during World War II—Parker takes you on a nightmare tour of a land where life is cheap, old hatreds run strong, and a couple of Americans can find themselves in more danger than they ever imagined.

With all the immediacy of the wartime dispatches Parker filed from Turkey, Danzig, Warsaw, and Bucharest and all the authority of a man who himself spent three years crossing borders without a passport and narrowly avoiding arrest by the Gestapo, PASSPORT TO PERIL paints a heart-stopping picture of desperate men in a desperate time.

Hard Case Crime Unpublished Lester Dent novel coming in October 2009!

HONEY IN HIS MOUTH by Lester Dent, Cover art by Ron Lesser - First publication ever!

If you were small-time grifter Walter Harsh, recovering in a hospital with a broken arm, you’d listen to a proposition that could net you a cool $50,000 for impersonating the South American strongman you resemble. You’d pay attention when the dictator’s sultry mistress started putting the moves on you. And in the dead of night, when no one was watching, you might just hatch a plot to get it all for yourself: the money, the girl, and the stash of stolen loot she’s conspiring to spirit out of the country...

Pulpfest 2009, a new and improved version of the venerable convention catering to fans and collectors of vintage popular fiction, will be held from Friday, July 31st, through Sunday, August 2nd, at the Ramada Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Sellers of pulp magazines, all-fiction digests, dime novels, and other collectible books and periodicals are already lining up for exhibit space, and the convention will be advertised and promoted extensively to capture the attention of new hobbyists as well as veteran attendees. Preliminary flyers carrying basic information are being distributed at various collectibles shows this fall, beginning with Bouchercon, the annual gathering for collectors of mystery fiction. The
Pulpfest 2009 committee has already contacted several publications to inquire about advertising the convention, and additional flyers will be designed and distributed throughout the year.

Additionally, the Pulpfest 2009
website is now operational and can be found at www.pulpfest.com. In the weeks and months to come, it will be updated regularly to provide new information on guests and programming as soon as it becomes available.

Dealers interested in helping promote Pulpfest 2009 can download and print out either of two flyers already available on the website in PDF form. These can be distributed at collectibles shows and sent with mail-order shipments.

Following an extensive search for the best available venue, the
Pulpfest 2009 committee chose the Ramada Plaza for its spacious accommodations, numerous amenities, ease of access, and competitive pricing. The committee has negotiated a guest-room rate of $84 plus tax per night, significantly less than that offered by other pulp conventions.

The Convention Center’s main room boasts more than 10,000 square feet of space and will accommodate up to 80 eight-foot tables. A separate room on the same floor will be set up theater-style for our evening programming. A con suite will be open for after-hours conversation and conviviality.

Located just off Exit 116 of Interstate 71, the Ramada Plaza is just 20 minutes from Columbus International Airport and 10 minutes from downtown Columbus, making our convention site easily accessible to attendees whether they’re driving or flying.

The Ramada offers complementary transportation via shuttle to and from the airport, downtown Columbus, and various other locations (including restaurants) within a five-mile radius of the hotel.

The newly renovated hotel additionally offers all the usual amenities. High-speed wireless Internet access is now available in the main lobby, convention center, and guest rooms. Guests can avail themselves of a whirlpool, an exercise room, and both indoor and outdoor pools, as well as a full-service business center. Parking is free for hotel guests and single-day convention attendees.

The Ramada’s spacious restaurant, Justin’s Place, serves traditional American cuisine and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. The hotel’s cozy lounge, Bowties, is open until two a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

The
Ramada Plaza is an extremely popular venue for conventions of our type and size. For 15 years now it has hosted Cinevent, an annual confab of vintage-film fans and collectors of movie memorabilia. Hotel management is both committed to  and experienced in providing the courteous, comprehensive service that produces satisfied conventioneers.

Pricing schedules for dealer tables and registrations will be forthcoming shortly. Information on guests and programming will be posted here and on the Pulpfest 2009 website as soon as it is confirmed.

Visit the Pulpfest 2009 website at http://www.pulpfest.com/

Want to help advertise Pulpfest 2009?
Visit the Pulpfest Promotions Page where you can download flyers to help promote the show!

Supporting memberships for those who cannot attend PulpFest 2009 are available for $20.
All members (including supporting members) will receive a complementary copy of Tony Davis’ The Pulpster

Robert Bloch - IDW to adapt Bloch's works to comics format!
IDW Publishing is proud to announce today a new licensing agreement with the estate of acclaimed writer Robert Bloch. Through this new partnership, IDW gains the rights to one hundred of the author’s classic stories for development as comic books, graphic novels and feature entertainment. The works will be released in the Robert Bloch Collection.

Best-known for his work as the author of the novel Psycho, Bloch has long been considered a true master of genre fiction. From being mentored by H.P. Lovecraft to receiving a Horror Writers of America Life Time Achievement award, Bloch created hundreds of influential horror, suspense, crime and science fiction stories. Additionally, he produced many screenplays, and wrote for radio and television, including the original Star Trek, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and Thriller series.

“Bloch is one of the established masters of horror, and we are really looking forward to offering his stories to existing fans and to bringing in new ones,” said IDW CEO, Ted Adams. “Having inspired so many leading writers, Bloch’s work is pivotal to the horror and science fiction genres and is a must-read for fans.”

Under the agreement, IDW will develop Bloch’s stories as standalone one-shots, miniseries and other formats, working with screenwriters and established comic book writers and artists to reinterpret and reinvent Bloch’s work for a new generation. The first Bloch project is expected to launch in early 2010.

Previously, IDW adapted some of the Hugo Award-winning writer’s stories for the B&W horror magazine Doomed, and a new edition of Bloch’s classic horror novel Lori will be released in September.

The Spectre Library now is accepting orders for Victor Rousseau's lost works of pseudo-science fiction stories "The Devil Chair." These stories have never been viewed by a single pulp fiction collector, and are now available for the first time, recovered from bygone newspapers. This is Rousseau's first-ever venture into the science fiction genre. The introduction is furnished by Michael Ashley.

Inheriting multi-million dollar properties in America, Englishman John Haynes relocates his wife and daughter from England to claim the inheritance. Upon arrival, Haynes, unaccustomed to American corruption, is railroaded into the penitentiary. While serving his sentence, he creates a scientific device in the machinist shops, a powerful gyroscope attached to a gasoline device, that when strapped to any means of transportation, enables him to speeds of 200 miles per hour!  Escaping prison, Haynes searches for his lost family while hunting the league of villains, attacking them both on the physical and psychological level.

"The Devil Chair" is a brilliant series, and among the best of his earliest and more thoughtful works of literature, pre-dating "The Sea Demons" and "Messiah of the Cylinder."
