The Shadow
- Movie Update! IGN Movies caught up with producer Michael E. Uslan at the premiere of The Spirit where Uslan gave IGN Movies the low down on what's happening with the feature film return of The Shadow. Uslan informed IGN Movies that his next project will likely be the reinvention of Walter B. Gibson's pulp hero The Shadow, followed by director Peter Segal's big screen version of DC Comics' Captain Marvel. IGN Movies broke the news about Sam Raimi's involvement with The Shadow back in December 2006. Raimi and Josh Donen's Buckaroo Entertainment will produce The Shadow along with Uslan's Comic Book Movies, Llc/Branded Entertainment banner. Siavash Farahani penned the screenplay. The Shadow was last brought to the screen in 1994 by director Russell Mulcahy with Alec Baldwin in the title role. Uslan advised IGN Movies that he has a specific actor in mind to play Lamont Cranston, a.k.a. The Shadow. Although he would not tell us who that actor is, he did say it was a rather unconventional choice that nevertheless excited executives when he told them.

Beneath Ceaseless Skies
#6 - Now available online! The fourth issue of Beneath Ceaseless Skies is now available and features: "Dunasby, Fire and Ice," by Rebecca Lyn Shelley Deathfire shot an arrow through the man’s back. Then he drew his sword. The woman and children would be easy enough to kill, but he wanted to take care of the baby first. “Don’t worry,” he said, rubbing a gentle hand across the woman's sweat-soaked brow. “I’ll make it painless for all of you.” "The Dragon's Child," by J. Kathleen Cheney The wizard raised a hand, his long, pointed nails painted with blue lacquer. With one finger, he drew a slashing arc through the air. Pain seared like fire along Kseniya’s cheek, a line cutting across one of the old scars. She clenched her jaw to keep from crying out. She remembered that pain all too well. "The Last Devil," by Sarah L. Edwards His body lengthened, his worn leather footings bursting as his legs, now fused, spiraled behind, scaled and glistening black. Even when the foul thing had fully turned, its hands still grasped at the air while the twisted mouth shrieked fearful things. It would have seemed only a beast, powerful and deadly, were it not for those hands and eyes, so like a man’s but not, a living sacrilege. CONAN THE CIMMERIAN
#9 - Coming in March! Written by Timothy Truman, penciled by Tomas Giorello, colored by Jose Villarrubia, cover by Joseph Michael Linsner. Nahtok, a powerful wizard with the desert tribes of Shem under his command, now looks to expand his motley empire northward into the politically unstable Koth -- where Koth's leaders are more likely to kill each other on the battlefield than join together to face a common foe. The only thing standing in Nahtok's way is the small border kingdom of Khoraja and their battered military forces, now led by the inexperienced Princess Yasmela. Amalric's mercenaries -- with Conan still riding among their numbers -- are charged with reinforcing Yasmela's depleted army, as the conquering Nahtok draws near and Yasmela is haunted by both evil threats and holy visions. Tim Truman, Tomás Giorello, and José Villarrubia continue their adaptation of Robert E. Howard's "Black Colossus," a chilling Robert E. Howard tale that finds Conan at a strange crossroads in his mercenary career and on the path to the largest-scale battle of his life, as a clash between Nahtok and Amalric's men appears inevitable! 40 pages, $2.99, in stores on March 18. Dark Horse Comics CONAN THE CIMMERIAN #9 is solicited in the January PREVIEWS (Available December 24th). The Diamond Item Code is JAN090086.
Doc Savage - Movie Update! IGN Movies caught up with producer Michael E. Uslan at Wednesday's premiere of The Spirit where he gave IGN Movies the low down on what's happening with the long-gestating feature film return of pulp hero Doc Savage. Uslan told IGN Movies that while The Shadow and Captain Marvel are likely to be his next two projects, he's also actively developing Doc Savage. No screenwriter or director has been hired yet, but Uslan says that several big names have expressed interest in Doc. The producer said his project has no ties to the version that was being developed years ago with director Frank Darabont and star Arnold Schwarzenegger and that neither of them are involved with his incarnation. He stressed that his will be a fresh start. Uslan added that no star is attached right now but hinted that the title role would likely not be played by an unknown. When asked about Dwayne Johnson, who has been rumored for the role in the past, Uslan simply replied that he's going to play the villainous "Black Adam" in Captain Marvel and didn't really give the impression that The Rock was also going to play the Man of Bronze, but he didn't outright deny it either. Uslan, who also produced Constantine and executive produced all of the Batman films, said the film would follow Doc's departure from his Arctic base on his first adventure to the United States. He stressed that the film would focus on Doc's story and developing his character, and downplayed the possibility that his team of companions -- the Fabulous Five -- would play a large part in the film, suggesting that they could be better served in sequels.

Airship 27: CAPTAIN HAZZARD - CAVEMEN IN NEW YORK -
Printing mistake! A major printing mistake has been discovered in Captain Hazzard # 4 - The Cavemen of New York. Somehow, through some totally weird voodoo glitch in the Airship 27 computer programs, the text for page 185 was misplaced! The
text on page 185 should be inserted between the text on page 181 and 182. Page 184 continues on page 186. Airship 27 Productions has recruited John Bruening to be their Proof-Reader which will hopefully prevent a recurrence of this problem. After correcting the page order, Cornerstone Books Publisher Michael Poll asked writer Andrew Salmon and Rob Davis to proof the book yet again one final time which they did over the past weekend. There now is a clean copy that is replacing the file at the Lulu store. So anyone ordering a copy after today will have a good copy. Likewise these files will be transfered with the Cornerstone printers as well. Unfortunately Airship 27 cannot change the few copies remaining in outlet inventories ala Amazon and Barnes & Noble on-line. Hopefully those will be depleted soon. The bottom line is that the on-line store (Lulu.com, Cornerstone) copies are fixed and fans should go there to procure the book. In the meantime Airship 27 wishes to make this up for all of you who have already bought this book. Simply write to Airship 27 at airship27@comcast.net and tell them the last word in the novel to confirm you do own the book. Airship 27 will digitally send you (free of charge) a copy of the clean pdf files so that you can at least have a clean version in digital format. Everyone involved with Airship 27 Productions and Cornerstone Book Publishers are truly sorry for this snafu. It was never their intention to produce anything but the highest quality books.

Altus Press - Help needed! From Altus Press publisher Matt Moring: My name is Matt Moring and I'm wrapping up work on a collection of Doc Savage articles by Will Murray. The book should be out in a few months, but I wanted to look into the possibility of including an all-new interview with Will regarding all things Doc. Will's done several interviews in the past, so it's difficult for me to think of anything which hasn't already been asked. So that's where you all come in. Maybe you've got a Doc/Lester Dent/Will question which you'd like to see answered... now's the chance to do so! So if you can assist with this, please send your question(s) along to me at m.moring@comcast.net, and if we get enough questions to make a good-length interview, your question will appear in print. This book should get wide circulation, so please do participate. I want to make this a must-own for Doc fans everywhere.

Beneath Ceaseless Skies
#5 - Now available online! The fourth issue of Beneath Ceaseless Skies is now available and features: "The God-Death of Halla," by Tina Connolly The man's head swung wildly, his fingers grasping towards the straining netted bundle. The touch of the God on an unholy man was not pretty. Halla could sense it, crackling the air from the Mouth to the man. It was a compulsion that filled him with blood lust, blanketed his mind with one urge: kill the dove. "Precious Meat ," by Catherine S. Perdue I lifted my muzzle and sniffed. The wood was different today. Fine dust still hung in the air and sparkled in sunlit shafts. Such a thing this sparkling was. I gazed at it in wonder. Had the light ever been just so before? BlackBart Books - Now available! --And Their Memory Was a Bitter Tree: Queen of the Black Coast and Others by Robert E Howard (Author), Arnie Fenner (Foreword), H. P. Lovecraft (Afterword) As one of the three most important American pulp fantasy authors of the 1930s (with Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith), Robert E. Howard captivated readers with his indomitable, battle-scarred barbarian hero Conan. Though Howard's life ended prematurely in 1936 at the age of 30, Conan lives on as one of the genre's most enduring icons. This beautifully designed collection contains nine essential Conan stories along with a full-length Conan novel. Also included is The Hyborean Age, Howard's fascinating history of the raw, blood-drenched world Conan inhabited, an alternative Earth that preceded Tolkien's Middle Earth. And Their Memory Was a Bitter Tree features a color map of this realm and an interior painting by cult artist Brom, along with a series of Frank Frazetta's seminal Conan paintings, appearing for the first time with the stories for which they were created.

CONAN THE CIMMERIAN #9 - Coming
in March! Forrest J. Ackerman - R.I.P. Forrest J. Ackerman, the sometime actor, literary agent, magazine editor and full-time bon vivant who discovered author Ray Bradbury and was widely credited with coining the term "sci-fi," has died, the Associated Press reported. He was 92. Ackerman died Dec. 4 of heart failure at his Los Angeles home, Kevin Burns, head of Prometheus Entertainment and a trustee of Ackerman's estate, told the AP. Ackerman was legendary in science fiction circles as the founding editor of the pulp magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland. He was also the owner of a huge private collection of science fiction movie and literary memorabilia that for years filled every nook and cranny of a hillside mansion overlooking Los Angeles, nicknamed the "Ackermansion." Every Saturday morning that he was home, Ackerman would open up the house to anyone who wanted to view his treasures; everyone knew him as "Forry." He sold some pieces and gave away others when he moved to a smaller house in 2002, but he continued to let people visit him every Saturday for as long as his health permitted. Source: SciFi Wire L.A. Hard
Case Crime - Coming in December and beyond! December 2008 FIFTY-TO-ONE by Charles Ardai, Cover art by Glen Orbik CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF HARD CASE CRIME! Okay, not really. But what if, instead of having been founded 50 books ago, Hard Case Crime had been founded 50 years ago, by a rascal out to make a quick buck off the popularity of pulp fiction? Such a fellow might make a few enemies—especially after publishing a supposed non-fiction account of a heist at a Mob-run nightclub, actually penned by an 18-year-old showgirl. With both the cops and the crooks after them, our heroes are about to learn that reading and writing pulp novels is a lot more fun than living them... The pay? $20,000 apiece. The mission? Find a way into Cuba and kill Castro. This breathtaking thriller, originally published the year before the Cuban Missile Crisis under a pen name Lawrence Block never used before or since, is the rarest of Block’s books—and still a work of chilling relevance all these years later, with Castro and Cuba once again commanding headlines. NEW ZELAZNY NOVEL IN 15 YEARS! Once an art
smuggler, now a respectable art dealer, Ovid Wiley awoke to find his former partner

What’s the connection? The priest’s lover, a woman Ovid knew in his smuggling days... March 2009 THE CUTIE by Donald E.
