24 Declassified: TRINITY - Now available!
Operating out of a nearly empty space in Los Angeles, the newly created CTU faces its first major crisis. A large amount of plastique explosive has vanished and could be anywhere—with criminals, crazies, outlaw bikers . . . or in the bloodstained hands of Islamic radicals. As powerful representatives of the world's major religions gather for a conference on faith, peace, and coexistence, agents of the newborn elite counterterrorism unit must chase elusive shadows through the underbelly of L.A. A nightmare of assassination and terror is looming, tied to the darkest secrets of the church—an explosive threat that must be exposed and defused within twenty-four hours, or violent repercussions will be felt around the world.

And only one man possesses the necessary passion, ruthless skill, and willingness to operate outside his jurisdiction and beyond the limits of the law: a dangerous rogue CIA operative . . . named Jack Bauer.

Gauntlet Press: BY THE SWORD by F. Paul Wilson (Signed/Limited) - Now available!
The new Repairman Jack title is now available!
In BY THE SWORD Jack hires on to find a stolen samurai sword -- a katana. The victim can't go to the authorities because in 1955 his father stole the sword from the Hiroshima Peace Museum. The blade had survived the atomic explosion there, but not without damage -- it is pocked and pierced with numerous small holes. Yet even in such ruined condition, it holds its cutting edge. It becomes an object of fierce desire, for it was fashioned by the renowned ancient swordsmith, Masamune. An ideogram on the hasp identifies it as his fabled lost sword, the Gaijin Masamune.

Jack soon learns that he's not the only one looking for it. Hank Thompson (from Bloodline) has had recurring dreams about the sword and sends his Kicker followers in search of it. The fanatical Kakureta Kao cult (from Black Wind), displaced from its homeland to an abandoned building on toxic ground near the Staten Island landfill, will kill to possess it. The chairman of a huge Japanese holding company (Kaze Group from Legacies) wants it for his collection. He sends Hideo Takita and three yakuza to retrieve it. And then there's the original thief, identity unknown, who has decided to keep it for himself.

The body count rises steadily as the sword changes hands time and again, and Jack must find a way to manipulate and maneuver the rival groups into a showdown that will allow him to spirit the blade away. Of course, nothing goes as planned -- for anyone.  By the Sword is the most frenetic and deadly Repairman Jack novel yet.

The signed and numbered edition is presently sold out at the publisher.
There is a wait list if you forgot to pre-order the book.
Some distributors may also have copies available.

A mass market hardcover edition will be available in November 2008 from Forge Books.

Howard Days 2008 - June  13-14, 2008!
Robert E. Howard Days in Cross Plains 2008 is just around the corner, and it’s not to late to still make plans to attend on Friday June 13 and Saturday June 14th. (Texas is a really big state, so there’s room for all of us!) Please click on the REH DAYS 2008 tab at the top of the REHupa page (www.rehupa.com) to find out all you’ll need to know, and now find out even more with a few changes & additions.

Project Pride and The Robert E. Howard Foundation are pleased to announce that this year's guest for Robert E. Howard Days in Cross Plains will be Mark Finn.  Finn is the author of Blood & Thunder: The Life and Art of Robert E. Howard (Monkeybrain Books, 2006), the 2007 Cimmerian Award winner for Book by a Single Author, which was also nominated for a World Fantasy Award and was a finalist for the Locus Award for Best Non-Fiction.

Finn has written about REH for The Dark Man, The Cimmerian, and Dark Horse Comics, among others, and his “Fists of Robert E. Howard” in The Barbaric Triumph won the 2005 Cimmerian Award for Best Essay. He also writes regularly for The Cimmerian Blog. As Creative Director for The Violet Crown Radio Players, Mark has adapted several of Howard’s Steve Costigan stories for performance. He has been one of the most instrumental voices in bringing Howard’s boxing fiction greater exposure and critical attention, and he is a lively and entertaining speaker and raconteur.

A quick note on the changes: the Friday morning 10:30 panel has been changed to a more generic “What’s Happening with REH”. REHupans, REH Foundation Board members and (hopefully) a Paradox Entertainment representative will present a discussion of what’s going on in the world of Robert E. Howard. We’ll disperse information, answer questions and encourage audience participation in talking about the Howard boom of the 21st Century.

Arlene Stephenson, President of Project Pride in Cross Plains, tells me they’ve received over 100 items for the Friday night Silent Auction at the REH Banquet, but they’re always looking for more. Actually, paperback books are NOT what they need this year, so if you’ve got some other type of REH or related item, please consider donating it to the Silent Auction, c/o Project Pride POB 534, Cross Plains, TX 76443 (or bring it with when y’all come.) It would be much appreciated (and it’s tax deductible!)

The nice folks down at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, caretakers of the Howard family plot there, have asked all Howard fans everywhere for help. They are underfunded and understaffed, but they are still bringing out that wonderful Texas hospitality during REH Days. There will be a canopy erected over the Howard gravesite to protect folks from the blazing Texas sun, and Greenleaf will also be providing some refreshments in the form of water and soft drinks and cookies, for all who visit to pay their respects to Robert E. Howard and his family. So, if you can see your way clear to make a donation to the Greenleaf Cemetery when you visit during Howard Days, it would be a wonderful and most appreciated gesture.

The Gift Shop at the Robert E. Howard Museum will be selling a new t-shirt this year. Yours truly will also be peddling a new Howard shirt, and I would hope others of you would take advantage of the informal Howard dealer’s area on the tables in the Pavilion for those items you’d like to sell or trade. (Think about donating some of them to the Silent Auction, as well!) And don’t forget to make your donation to Project Pride if you do decide to take advantage of the “dealer’s area”.

Robert E. Howard Days 2008 is almost here. Hope to see you there, for it’s the gala event of the year for all fans of Robert E. Howard! Y’all come!

BOYS OF STEEL by Marc Tyler Nobleman
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Siegel and Shuster!
Celebrate Superman’s 70th anniversary with this fascinating true story of how he came to be!

Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two teenagers in Depression-era Cleveland, were more like Clark Kent than his secret identity. Meek, mild, and myopic, they spent their high school years escaping into fictional worlds of adventure and derring-do with heroes like Flash Gordon and Tarzan. They also made up their own stories—Jerry wrote, Joe illustrated. Then, late on summer night, Jerry had the idea for a hero who was everything they were not . . . and unlike any the world had ever known.

Boys of Steel is the first-ever picture book about how these two unsung heroes created the first and greatest superhero of all time. Marc Tyler Nobleman’s text captures the excitement of Joe and Jerry’s creative triumph as boys and their fight for recognition as men, while Ross MacDonald’s buoyant illustrations bring back to life the thrilling days—and thrill-seeking boys—of yesteryear. Up, up, and away!

Is it true that "no good deed goes unpunished" . . . ? With cover artist Frank Cho on board, writer Timothy Truman, artist Tomás Giorello, and colorist José
Villarrubia are again joined by comic book veteran Richard Corben in a moody, horrific, and surprising issue

James Bond: Devil May Care by Sebastian Faulks
Arriving in bookstores May 28th!
DEVIL MAY CARE, a novel written by British author Sebastian Faulks and authorized by the estate of the late Ian Fleming, is due to come out in 2008, the centennial of Fleming’s birth. According to the Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group, DEVIL MAY CARE is set during the Cold War and, like so many Bond adventures, moves about a variety of scenic locales.

“My novel is meant to stand in the line of Fleming’s own books, where the story is everything,” Faulks, whose books include BIRDSONG, CHARLOTTE GRAY and the upcoming ENGLEBY, said in a statement issued by Doubleday.

“In his house in Jamaica, Ian Fleming used to write a thousand words in the morning, then go snorkeling, have a cocktail, lunch on the terrace, more diving, another thousand words in the late afternoon, then more martinis and glamorous women. In my house in London, I followed this routine exactly, apart from the cocktails, the lunch and the snorkeling.”

Subterranean Press: HAGGOPIAN AND OTHER STORIES by Brian Lumley - Now available!
Prior to the first American publication of Brian Lumley's ground-breaking, dead-waking, best-selling Necroscope® in 1988 -- the first novel in a long-lived, much-loved series -- this British author had for twenty years been earning himself something of a reputation writing short stories, novellas, and a series of novels set against H. P. Lovecraft's cosmic Cthulhu Mythos backdrop. A soldier in 1967, serving in Berlin with the Royal Military Police, Lumley jump-started his literary career by writing to August Derleth, the then dean of macabre publishers at his home in Sauk City, Wisconsin, telling of his fascination with the Mythos, and purchasing books by the "Old Gentleman of Providence, RI." In addition, he sent a page or two of written work allegedly culled from the various forbidden or "black books" of the Mythos. Suitably impressed, the master of Arkham House invited Lumley to write something solid in the Mythos as a possible contribution to a new volume he was currently contemplating, to be titled -- what else but? -- Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos. And as might well be imagined, that set everything in motion.

Forty years have passed since then and a good many words of Mythos fiction written, including critically acclaimed and award-nominated work, stories that have appeared in prestigious magazines such as Fantasy & Science Fiction, and hardcover volumes from publishers all over the world from the USA to China and the United Kingdom to Russia. But while Lumley's novels are all currently available, many of them in hardcover format, his Mythos short stories and novellas have until now remained uncollected.

Subterranean Press is proud to correct that omission in volumes that are guaranteed to be the pride of any collector's library of Mythos fiction other than tales written by H. P. Lovecraft himself. Here in this book are found the shorter stories. Thus the best of Brian Lumley's works in this sub-genre are collected and presented for the first time in this much more worthy and durable format.

A TREASURY OF AMAZING ADVENTURES
This Special FULL-COLOR Edition collects the FIRST THREE ISSUES of AMAZING ADVENTURES, a great comic book series, with all ads and text pages. "Amazing Adventures" was a 1950's Science Fiction Anthology, with the first issue cover by Robert G. Jones, who painted many pieces for "Amazing Stories" and "Fantastic Adventures".

These comics were really "visual pulp fiction". It ran for six issues, beginning c. 1950, with the first two issues being undated. Its artists included Murphy Anderson, Bernard Krigstein, Ogden Whitney, Wally Wood, and one issue (#2) featured a cover painting by Alex Schomburg.

WCB is pleased to offer these classic comics for your reading enjoyment! We hope you enjoy this collection! Due to the age of the material, especially the cheap newsprint they were printed on, some pages do show signs of wear, fading, and some discoloration. However, with the scientific technology currently available (appropriate for a Science Fiction collection), we have tried to restore the artwork as best as possible!

114 pages, 6" x 9" FULL-COLOR Trade Paperback, $29.95

The stories are categorized according to common motifs, including the largely unexplored field of women in late nineteenth-century detection. The Spectre Library - Summer 2008 Book Release - Advance orders are now being accepted!
The Spectre Library now is accepting advance orders for Victor Rousseau's lost works of pseudo-science fiction stories "The Devil Chair." These stories have never been viewed by a single pulp fiction collector, and are now available for the first time, recovered from bygone newspapers. This is Rousseau's first-ever venture into the science fiction genre. The introduction is furnished by Michael Ashley.

Inheriting multi-million dollar properties in America, Englishman John Haynes relocates his wife and daughter from England to claim the inheritance. Upon arrival, Haynes, unaccustomed to American corruption, is railroaded into the penitentiary. While serving his sentence, he creates a scientific device in the machinist shops, a powerful gyroscope attached to a gasoline device, that when strapped to any means of transportation, enables him to speeds of 200 miles per hour!  Escaping prison, Haynes searches for his lost family while hunting the league of villains, attacking them both on the physical and psychological level.

"The Devil Chair" is a brilliant series, and among the best of his earliest and more thoughtful works of literature, pre-dating "The Sea Demons" and "Messiah of the Cylinder."

Curt Philips is hosting a small SF conference here in Abingdon, VA on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22. (We'll also have some kind of social function on the evening of Friday, June 20 for those who may want to arrive early but I'm still looking at what that will be.  Several interesting alternatives - mostly involving food - present themselves.)  It's called the Abingdon Pulp & Paperback Conference and yes, this is short notice, but I invite any of you who might like to attend to come to Abingdon and join us.  I expect to have a website up soon and will certainly post that link here.

I already have intentions to attend in hand from two writers and I'm hoping for more.  I'm also looking for additional book dealers who'd like to attend.  If anyone here would be interested in being a dealer, or would just like to bring some surplus pulps, fiction magazines or books along to sell or trade, we'll have a place for you too.  The weekend will be one of relaxed book-hunting and book conversation with like minded people, and as the name indicates, our main focus will be on pulp magazines and paperback books, vintage or otherwise.  I hope that we'll have a couple of panal discussions with accomplished writers, publishing professionals and book collectors, I'm hoping to arrange a special display by a certain local artist whom you've all heard of, and there'll be some local attractions available for your enjoyment including walks in the 230 year-old Town of Abingdon, visits to two major flea markets where *I* find great old books just about every weekend, you can, if you  wish, take in a play at the world famous Barter Theater located just down the street, and if it ever stops snowing here in town I'll go out and pick out a good place for us to have a Saturday night banquet.

So the focus for the Abingdon Pulp & Paperback Conference will be books, food, visiting the attractions of the beautiful southwest Virginia mountains and hanging out with other book people.  I expect this to be a relatively small gathering with a mixture of local fans and folks from across the region (this is where you all come in...).  I hope that many of you will be able to join us in Abingdon.  Details, prices (cheap!) and so forth should be available right here and on the event website very soon.  I'll let you know.

As I said, I'm looking for a few more dealers of good books.  If you're such a dealer, e-mail me and we'll see if we can talk you into coming to Abingdon.  I'm also looking for any suggestions from any of you about other things we might do at the conference and other folks who might like to attend. I can be contacted directly at the address and phone number below.

THE FLASH GORDON SERIALS 1936-1940 - Now available!
By Roy Kinnard, Tony Crnkovich and R.J. Vitone.
Flash Gordon, Flash Gordon’s Trip to Mars and Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, the most expensive and popular movie serials ever made, have been favorites of movie and comic fans for decades. The first serial was even designated a cultural treasure after being selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 1996.

This is the first book-length guide to the serials. Arranged in a chapter-by-chapter format conforming to the structure of the three original films, the work provides full cast and crew information, plot synopses, and production notes for each film. The work also includes a wealth of background information on the films and more than 150 photographs, along with interview quotations from cast members Buster Crabbe, Jean Rogers, and Caroll Borland. Three appendices provide an overview of the serial film Buck Rogers (1939), select filmographies for 50 of the most prominent Flash Gordon cast and crew members, a complete list of the serials’ film and television remakes.

Subterranean Press: KULL, EXILE OF ATLANTIS - Off to the printer!
Subterranean Press is now taking preorders for Robert E. Howard’s Kull: Exile of Atlantis, featuring copious black and white interior illustrations and color plates by Justin Sweet.

The Limited Edition of Robert E. Howard’s Kull: Exile of Atlantis is less than a week from heading to the printer. Our Director of Production, Yanni Kuznia, has been through the book and index multiple times, making corrections to the files we were sent. We’ve set up a special art/portfolio section for Justin Sweet’s full-color interior illustrations, as well as replacing a few of the black-and-white illustrations with new, improved versions by Justin. That’s not all. Justin has agreed to provide an extra section of rough sketches that will appear only in the Deluxe Leatherbound edition of Kull.

A few things to we should tell you. Our edition, the text, interior illustrations, and endsheets will be printed on a heavier paper than the Wandering Star editions, though we’ve decided on a color art portfolio rather than placing the color interior illustrations throughout the book. Also, as our printer is not able to do top edge gilding on the book, that’s one feature we’ll have to leave behind. We’ll be continuing the two-color foil stamping on the book itself, which will be bound in a beige Pearl Linen that stamps well, and will continue the Wandering Star tradition of having a full-color illustration adorn the slipcase.

We think, given the fact that we’ll be doing far fewer copies than Wandering Star did of their limited editions, and at a $75 lower price point, the Subterranean Press editions of Robert E. Howard’s works will sit proudly on the shelves next to Wandering Star’s glorious volumes.

Wildside Press - Now available!
“THE NIGHT WIND’S PROMISE” by Varick Vanardy
Written by the “father of [serial detective] Nick Carter,” Frederic Van Rensselaer Dey, and published by the man who introduced the “pulp” magazine to the world, Frank A. Munsey, the Night Wind was a super-endowed character whose fictional life-span ran from 1913 to the early 1920s.

Bingham Harvard, alias the Night Wind, used his prodigious strength (roughly 5 times that of the average man) to rescue himself, friends and family from various plots of “frame-ups,” extortion and outright physical violence.  His exploits were serialized in Munsey’s THE CAVALIER and ALL-STORY WEEKLY just a few months after the appearance of Tarzan in October 1912 and wrapping up just before the first appearance of Zorro on August 1919 by the same publisher.

Upon the close of a pulp magazine serial, the installments were bound and reissued in hardcover format.  There were a total of four hardcover novels starring the Night Wind: ALIAS “THE NIGHT WIND,” THE RETURN OF THE NIGHT WIND, THE NIGHT WIND’S PROMISE, and LADY OF THE NIGHT WIND.  In 1923 the first novel was adapted for the silent screen and released with much popular appeal as ALIAS “THE NIGHT WIND.”

After almost 100 years out of print, ALIAS THE NIGHT WIND was re-released by Wildside Press in March 2007.  The Wildside Press edition of the sequel: THE RETURN OF THE NIGHT WIND was released in September 2007.  Now the third installment: THE NIGHT WIND’S PROMISE is now available once again.  Re-typeset - but not revised or abridged in any way, this edition comes with an informative introduction by Christopher Yates, editor of the Wildside Press editions of the Night Wind series, explaining that the Night Wind is the archetype for today’s most popular heros.  In addition, this book sports the color cover from one of the magazine installments from the original run of THE NIGHT WIND’S PROMISE in ALL-STORY WEEKLY magazine from October 26, 1918.

ALIAS THE NIGHT WIND and THE RETURN OF THE NIGHT WIND are available now from Barnes & Noble.com, Amazon.com and Diesel eBooks in hardcover, paperback and ebook formats

Hardcover, $29.95 [ISBN: 1434400018, 1434401456]
Trade paperback, $14.95 [ISBN: 1434400107, 1434401502]

THE NIGHT WIND’S PROMISE is now available from the same retailers in trade paperback format for $14.95.
A hardcover edition will be coming along for those that prefer the hardcover format!

Stay tuned for the pending release of the next Night Wind title from the original series and a new, exciting fifth installment with a foreword by Win Scott Eckert and cover and interior illustrations by Mark Maddox...

Plus, more from Diego's childhood as we learn about the places and events which would define the young man and create the great Zorro! Joining Wagner, who also provides covers for the series, is cover artist Mike Mayhew (with the incredible colors of Dean White)!

Classic adventures from vintage pulps in a low-cost affordable format!
"Draft of Eternity" by Victor Rousseau
Reefer Madness! That's how Victor Rousseau catapults his hero centuries into the future for an exciting adventure against the Mongol conquerors of New York. Basil Clifford, a physician at Dr, Moreland's sanatarium for rare disorders of the mind is experimenting with the use of cannabis sativa in their treatment.  Taking an injection himself, Clifford finds himself travels far into the future, where he has been reincarnated as Ruuf, son of Oz, emperor of Nyork, the ruins of New York City. There he must battle the treachery of Prince Timour, a rival to the throne of Og, and for the hand of Princess Alma, and for the liberation of the enslaved native Nyorkers. Can Clifford / Ruuf thread his way through a maze of deceit, jealousy, twisted prophecies and a mechanical, killing "Buddha" to find love and happiness, or will he love by winning and win by losing? Only Time will tell.

Victor Rouseau wrote a number of science fiction serials for All-Story Weekly and for nascent SF magazines some years later. He could be counted on for a fast paced story, thrilling action, striking imagery and unforgettable characters.

Secret Agent "X": "The Hooded Hordes" by  Brant House
In the depths of the Great Depression men, thousands of men, broken of hope, desperate to matter have joined a secret society, the Defenders of the American Constitution!  But are this great hearted patriots - - of the dupes of a sinister mastermind exploiting their pain to further his own plans for a criminal empire.  Secret Agent "X" has vowed to get to the bottom of this, marshaling his own army of private detectives to penetrate the mysterious cult. But the DOACS have captured Betty Dale and threaten to fill her mouth with molten lead. Can "X" save her in time, can he unmask the DOAC"S secret master in time? Only the Man of a Thousand Faces could have a chance to pull this off.

Secret Agent "X": "The Faceless Fury" by  Brant House
Our Secret Agent "X" reprint program continues with a story from later in the series, "Faceless Fury" by G. T. Fleming-Roberts, writing as "Brant House." Someone is going around killing people, seemingly at random, leaving as the only clue to the crime a wooden children's block with a single letter. What do these letters mean?  Do they refer to a long ago crime gang, The ghosts?  And who is this faceless fury, a man with his face wrapped in bandages who can sear the flesh off his victims face with a simple glance? Can Secret Agent "X's" keen sense and mastery of disguise unravel this mystery before he becomes a victim of the Faceless Fury's deadly gaze?

Later this year Beb Books plans to reprint George Allen England's science fictional thriller, The Fatal Gift, as well as Francis Stevens' only unreprinted novel, Avalon. Plus, more adventures of Secret Agent "X" -- "Curse of the Waiting Death" and "Servants of the Skull" for sure, maybe more.   Check "Coming Attractions" for announcements or visit our website at

COLD HARBOUR and SINISTER HOUSE
Praised by H. P. Lovecraft, these two classic weird novels again see the light of day as part of our ongoing Lovecraft's Library series. In the 1924 novel Cold Harbour by Francis Brett Young, an ancient house of strange malignancy is powerfully delineated. Leland Hall's Sinister House (1919) is a supernatural tale of a strangely appealing quality; against the background of a typical American suburb is projected a genuine atmosphere of horror. Introductions to each novel by S. T. Joshi trace the Lovecraft connection. Both feature their first edition cover art; Sinister House has four original illustrations, as well. Two novels in one volume, uniform in style to our previous release EXCHANGE OF SOULS and LAZARUS. Also, at our website we are offering a special discount on these dual editions: Four novels for $25.

DEAD HOUSES AND OTHER WORKS by Edith Miniter
In the works of Edith Miniter (1867-1934), daughter of a poet and a mathematician, the undercurrent of isolation and ancient whispers always persists. Her friend H.P. Lovecraft compared Mrs. Miniter's fiction with that of Jane Austen. Despite her genius, Edith Miniter's literary heritage has – until now – lain neglected. Collected here is her finest work in short fiction, including "Dead Houses," from which this collection draws its name. One of Mrs. Miniter's ancestresses in the early nineteenth century was a suspected witch; and her "Wonted Fires" is as dark a piece of gothic fiction as the aficionado might desire. Also included are her amateur writings, which mine a rich vein of information about Lovecraft. Rounding out the monumental volume are essays about her life and work by Lovecraft and other contemporaries, as well as modern scholarship – revealing her as a fascinating emblem of a vanished period in literature.

SANCTITY AND SIN by Donald Wandrei
Mingling fantasy, horror, and eroticism, and evoking complex emotions in the sensitive reader, this new edition contains every known work of poetry or prose poetry written by Donald Wandrei. In Wandrei's centennial year, we are glad to bring this collection to discerning aficionados of the weird. Editor S. T. Joshi  adds a substantial introduction and commentary on the poems. The volume also features nearly a dozen illustrations of the poems executed by Wandrei's brother, Howard.

Thank you for your interest in Hippocampus Press!

In the late-1930s, Culture Publications added a new imprint, Trojan Publications, and gave comic-book fansa reason to stay with the pulps. The reason was Super-Detective, introduced in 1940, a pulp featuring the novel-length adventures of Jim Anthony, detective extraordinaire. But Anthony was no mere sleuth. He possessed phenomenal physical and mental abilities. Patterned after Doc Savage, he battled super-villains bent on the destruction of the United States.

After ten amazing adventures, Super-Detective transformed the Jim Anthony novels to a hard-boiled detective-story mode. The criminals were less ambitious, and more susceptible to guns and fists.

Here, in this SUPER-DETECTIVE FLIP BOOK, a joint presentation of Off-Trail Publications and Reverse Karma Press, are two Jim Anthony novels, one from each phase of Anthony’s career. Flip the book and read the second novel. Also included are two introductions that explore the dual worlds of Jim Anthony, and the authors who brought him to life.

GANG PULP
Introduction by John Locke
6x9-inch perfect bound; 294 pages, $24.00

In 1929, a new kind of magazine appeared on newsstands, the gang pulps! And nothing that came before gave the pulps a worse reputation. Month after month, the stories luridly recounted the exploits of the most sadistic killers, the most craven squealers, the most coldblooded gun molls, the most corrupt cops, the most ruthless gang bosses, the most brutal mob wars, that ever escaped the realm of the imagination--a genre of extremes.

There had been outlaw heroes in crime fiction before, but none like this new breed, who toasted with bootleg liquor while their bloody victims lay dying on the floor. Almost immediately, the gang pulps came under attack from the censors. America’s morals lay dying on the pulpwood pages, they claimed.

Centered in the crosshairs was famed pulp editorHarold Hersey, creator of Gangster Stories, Racketeer Stories, Speakeasy Stories, and a raft of other gang magazines. He was threatened with prosecution. Clean up--or else!

But the story of this clash has never before been told; nor have many of the stories been available since their original publication during the dying years of Prohibition. Included in GANG PULP are nineteen rare tales, selected from both the pre- and post-censorship periods. Did Hersey buckle under? Judge for yourself in violent and profane pulp classics like "One Hour Before Dawn," "Rough on Rats," and "City of Bullets."

In "Glorifying the American Goon," an in-depth introduction based on all-new research, the world of the gang pulps is explored: what the stories were about, what happened during the attack on Hersey, how he responded, how the stories changed.

Stories complete with original illustrations.

WEIRD WESTERN TALES
Western heroes were popular in the great Pulp Magazines, Old Time Radio Shows, the earliest Television programs, and Movies. When the Western hit the medium of Comic Books it was inevitable that a bit of the fantastic would enter the mythos as well. We have assembled a group of characters who live in a world where the Old West is touched with elements of Horror and Science Fiction. A world where gunslingers travel through time, vampires threaten rancher's daughters, and outlaws fight desperados with kung fu instead of a gun. We've even resurrected a classic Western pulp hero, the Masked Rider, and made his world much darker than it was before. The West just got a whole lot WEIRDER!

Includes: TIN STAR & FIST by Wayne Skiver, NIGHT OF THE CRIMSON MOON by Howard Hopkins, DOC GRISWOLD'S SINISTER SIDESHOW by Wayne Skiver, GLIDERS OF THE PURPLE STAGE by K.G. McAbee, THE HANGMAN by Wayne Skiver, and NO MAN TO TRIFLE WITH by K.G. McAbee. Cover Art by Keith Howell, Graphic Design by William Carney.

This is our first "Pocket Book" size publication, and is available in 2 formats:
4.25" x 6.88" Pocket Book, 116 pages, $10.99
