Clive & Dirk Cussler:
TREASURE OF KHAN - Available in bookstores November 28th!
Two years ago, BLACK WIND became one of Clive Cussler’s most audacious, and well-received, Dirk Pitt novels in an illustrious career, while also introducing Clive’s son, Dirk Cussler, as co-author for the first time. Now, in TREASURE OF KHAN, which Putnam will publish on November 28, 2006 ($27.95), the Cusslers create yet another of their inimitable globe-spanning adventures, presenting one of the most remarkable villains ever to challenge Dirk Pitt and his formidable team. Genghis Khan is widely considered to be the greatest conqueror of all time, whose empire at one point stretched from the Pacific Ocean to the Caspian Sea. His conquests are the stuff of legend, his tomb a forgotten mystery--until now. When Dirk Pitt is nearly killed rescuing an oil survey team from a freak wave on Russia’s Lake Baikal, it appears a simple act of nature. But when the survey team is abducted and Pitt’s research vessel nearly sunk, it’s obvious there’s something more sinister involved. All trails lead to Mongolia, and a mysterious mogul who is conducting covert deals for supplying oil to the Chinese, while wreaking havoc on global oil markets with deadly acts of sabotage. The Mongolian harbors a dream of restoring the conquests of his ancestors, and holds a dark secret about Genghis Khan that just might give him the wealth and power to make the dream come true. From the frigid lakes of Siberia to the hot sands of the Gobi Desert, Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino find intrigue, adventure, and peril while collecting clues to the mysterious treasure of Xanadu. But first, they must stop the tycoon from spreading his killing spree—one that is about to strike very, very close to home. Filled with breathtaking suspense and extraordinary imagination, his new novel is yet further proof that when it comes to adventure writing, nobody beats Clive Cussler – let alone Clive AND Dirk Cussler. Hard Case Crime -
Coming soon! Hard Case Crime has announced that one year from now they will be bringing out a never-before-published book by the great Mickey Spillane. It's called DEAD STREET, and it's the story of a retired NYPD cop who discovers that a woman he'd loved and thought had died in an abduction twenty years earlier is actually still alive -- and still being pursued by the criminals who came after her twenty years ago. Mickey was working on this book at the time of his death earlier this year; most of it was completed, and he'd discussed his plans for the book at length with his good friend (and long-time friend of Hard Case Crime) Max Allan Collins, who stepped in and wrote the last few chapters with the guidance of Mickey's extensive notes and comments. DEAD STREET is Mickey Spillane's final cop/crime novel (he also finished an adventure novel called THE LAST STAND and was working on two Mike Hammer private eye novels), and Hard Case Crime is honored to be its publisher. Look for DEAD STREET in stores in November 2007. Visit the Hard Case Crime website at http://www.hardcasecrime.com

MELODY OF VENGEANCE is set in 1947 New York, and features the heroic Doc Atlas and his crew as they are about to embark on a quest to eradicate a mysterious masked vigilante known as The Wraith. Soon, Doc finds the two cases strangely intertwined. Can anyone come out unscathed with the preeminent crime fighter of his day and the shadowy avenger of evil running on a collision course? You're in for a real treat with this one!" –Gary Lovisi, editor of Hardboiled Magazine. Michael A. Black's website is at http://www.michaelablack.com/

Now available! TWO GUN BOB: A CENTENNIAL STUDY OF ROBERT E. HOWARD Edited by Benjamin Szumskyj September 2006: 0-9771734-5-3: Pb: $15.00 Robert E. Howard is enjoying a renaissance of interest in his centennial year, and rightly so. Of the triumvirate of Weird Tales authors, only Howard has been so long misunderstood, and his works so thoroughly adulterated, as to permit of little serious study. In fact, some of us here at Hippocampus Press have neglected even to read Howard ourselves, because no definitive editions were available. With the new recently released editions of his fiction, however, we have tasted the waters, and come into the fold of Howard enthusiasts. Towards this end we have commissioned a critical study of his entire body of work, edited by the outspoken and often controversial Benjamin Szumskyj. Like Howard himself, this is a volume that will evoke a variety of strong emotions, perhaps even by our mere announcement of it. Love it or hate it, this volume will not be ignored -- and we are convinced that it will withstand even the most cynical and jaundiced critical evaluation to stand on its own merits. Hippocampus Press boldly steps into the fray with TEXAS REAVER. Hippocampus Press

Books - Coming in January! Leanta's January project, Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes is well underway and is proceeding on schedule. The Burroughs community is very excited about David Burton's illustrations for this classic story. Edgar Rice Burroughs is most famous for his stories about the young boy lost in the jungle and raised by a tribe of apes. Though the world knew little about Africa at the time when these stories were written, Burroughs in fact got many of his theoretical ideas absolutely correct about apes and their ways of living. Now, after many years of reprints in standard paperback format with average cover artwork and little to no illustration, David Burton and Leanta Books bring to you this re-imagining of one of the most beloved stories of all time! Preorders will be available on December 1st, 2006!

Books: THE PHANTOM CHRONICLES: New Tales Of The Ghost Who Walks! - Coming in May! 17 new prose short stories of the PHANTOM! High adventure and intrigue in the African jungle, on the high seas, and in the city! There is always justice that needs to be served, whether it's in the present...or the past. In the heat of the pitched battle aboard the ship, Standish's son was knocked overboard to wash ashore on a remote beach where he was found by a friendly pygmy tribe. After stumbling upon the body of his father's killer, young Standish swore an oath on the murderer's skull to devote his life, and the lives of his sons and their sons, to the destruction of piracy, greed, cruelty and injustice. To the outside world, this man, seemingly immortal, has always worn the mask. As the legend grew, it transcended the life of any one mortal. And that legend became THE PHANTOM! Pulpville Press - Now available! THE SEX LADDER by Robert Leslie Bellem writing as Anthony Gordon has been added to the Pulpville Press line of books. Better known for his stories of Dan Turner, Hollywood Detective, Bellem was a prolific writer whose yarns covered many genres, including adult fiction. At least two novels are known: "The Sex Ladder" and "Doctor of Lesbos." We will be reprinting both novels. While this is termed an Adult book, it is only slightly more descriptive than Bellem's Spicy work, and is much less explicit than many of our mystery and science fiction stories of today. When I first began working on it, I was a little dubious as to its quality, but I found it very entertaining and can recommend it to Bellem's fans. Robert E Howard Foundation Robert E. Howard Foundation created in support of Howard’s literary legacy First project to publish book of very rare poems. The Board of Directors of the Robert E Howard Foundation today announced the creation of the non-profit organization to promote greater awareness and understanding of the author’s life and works and to honor his legacy as a skillful, prolific and successful writer of fantasy, regional, horror, action and adventure stories. Among the objectives of the new Foundation are the acquiring and maintaining of an archive of Howard’s work, serving as a resource for scholars, actively promoting Howard scholarship, providing support for Howard-related programs, and shepherding all of Howard’s works into print. Directors of the Board are Rusty Burke, Paul Herman, Patrice Louinet, Fredrik Malmberg and Peter Sederowsky. Glenn Lord has been awarded the honorary title of Director Emeritus of the Board. The Foundation will work in cooperation with Paradox Entertainment, owners of the rights to the works and characters of Robert E. Howard. “The long-term goals of the Foundation are ambitious. We want to see Howard’s work widely available all over the world, and we want to actively promote him as a subject who richly rewards scholarly and critical attention. We also hope to promote the efforts of younger writers who are working the same literary veins,” said Rusty Burke, Chairman of the Board and President. Fredrik Malmberg of Paradox Entertainment said, “It became apparent to us when we acquired the rights to all Howard works that the author, recognized as the creator of the Sword & Sorcery genre, is one of the greatest American adventure scribes of the 20th century. We believe this foundation is an integral, independent part which will ensure that the greatness of Howard’s literary legacy remains intact, and is one that can be enjoyed by both fans and the general public for years to come.” The first project of the new Foundation will be the publication of a new edition of the rarest Howard poetry book, with over one hundred poems not found in any other collection. The book, entitled “Rhymes of Salem Town and Other Poems,” is planned for release before year-end and can soon be pre-ordered on the foundation website. The Foundation is also planning a release early in 2007 of the complete collected letters of the Texas author, whose most notable correspondent was his fellow weird fictionist H.P. Lovecraft. A volume of previously unpublished Howard material is also planned for early 2007. BLOOD 'N' THUNDER #16 -
Coming soon! This issue has a crime/detective/mystery theme. A special section devoted to Black Mask editor Joseph T. "Cap" Shaw reprints E. R. Hagemann's 1981 article about the behind-the-scenes wrangling that accompanied the creation of Shaw's classic 1946 anthology, The Hard-Boiled Omnibus. Hagemann's piece is augmented with other Shaw-related material that appeared in writers' magazines of the '20s and '30s. Alfred Jan contributes "Doan, Carstairs, and Ludwig," which discusses famed philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein's surprising fondness for popular series characters created by detective-pulp regular Norbert Davis. AND THE SONGS OF THE DEAD -

Lansdale reunites with his Jonah Hex collaborator, visionary artist Timothy Truman, to tell the grittiest, roughest, downright meanest Conan story ever seen in comics. Soon his pursuit of the ancient treasure reveals a conniving spirit and undead guards. Dust from the desolate land meets blood, and a dark-hearted sorcerer brings forth strange abominations from this unholy mix. Cat Books - Now Available! Wild Cat Books is pleased to present it's newest release, a tale of Sword & Sorcery written in the grand tradition of Robert E. Howard, Lin Carter, and other masters of the fantastic!... THE LEGEND OF KESRIK by Tim Jones... This is the story of a king who no longer wanted to be a king, and of a thief who, despite everything he did to avoid it, would ultimately become a king. This is a tale of tragedy, war, pain, deceit, treachery, death, heroism and love; of evil men and of dark esoteric powers.
